What a great upload, the Solomon Islanders are the unsung heroes of WW2. As are the local Papuans.

Absolutely agree on the local Pacific Islanders being an integral part of the war effort. We have recently sailed back to the Solomons and also PNG and the amount of wrecks is incredible. In one lagoon at the top of Vella Lavella the locals showed us the wreckage of 2 PT boats and one P39 aircraft all in shallow water. Thanks for watching Colin.

Great video beautiful water . That Hellcat is in Amazing condition for having been down there so long. When they are like that and up right who ever had to ditch it was a well trained Pilot and I hope he got picked up by some Friendly people and made it home. 👍

Thanks, my understanding is that the pilot did survive and did revisit the site many years later.

About how long will it be before that wreck is deemed to structurally unstable to dive safely?

I’m not sure as we were last there in 2018 but you would think penetrating inside the wreck will only have a very limited time frame. We are heading back to the Solomons this year and May end up in that area.
