Nyet, it's definitely not a sniper rifle. The AK platform which this is built on does not lend itself to consistent ballistics beyond about 400m, where a proper "sniper" rifle will have its maximum deviation much farther out. This is due to the mechanical construction and "shot harmonics" which are inherent to the way gas is driven into the piston, the piston itself, etc. In other words, the Galil in .308 is actually that medium. Among the reasons I sold my PSL (very similar platform) was the ammo. I loved the gun but it was horribly inaccurate and 7.62x54R is a pain to reload accurately. I could see getting one of these.
I felt that pain. I had a Drag Tiger 7.62x54r. Quality ammo that shot well was so hard to come by. Was able to pick up an NDM-86 in .308 and sold the Tiger. It was a good decision.
@@AzazelCain That rim reference man. She's a bitch. You have to shoot the light ammo in those too. If you shoot the heavy ball it fries the firing pins. I still have a ton of ammo (I also have a buddy with a Mosin though).
When the bolt carrier is chromed like that the action is faster and smoother less recoil etc just due to how well chrome can stay lubricated and greasy ,that's the part I noticed right away
Got my M77 this week and shot the first 50 rounds through it today (3 different ammos). Ran everything fine, PPU, Norma and some Swiss stuff. Surprisingly soft recoiling, great accuracy, a blast to shoot. It feels like there is kind of a break-in period, for all the parts to smooth out. But already i can see that happening. I'll give it a good cleaning, lube it nicely and this will for sure be one of my favourite rifles!
I bought 2 of them back in 2012. Got a deal on them. They both cost me what one would cost you now. They came with an ugly plastic thumbhole stock. Went on Copes and got me some M76 wood furniture to put on them.
I have 3 zastavas . This m77 in .308-- m70 serbian red side folder & a m92 pap and out of the box so accurate, the finish is awesome. Very reliable and will run forever i love them
James, you Mad Lawyer You! I thought I dropped back into the 80’s and was looking at my brothers M76. I snapped out of it when I stood up and my knees creaked! Looks like an interesting rifle, but .308 doesn’t make your shoulder throb like the old M76 in 8mm. Fun times! Can’t wait to see what else you’ve for the rest of the week.
SIde note that I've noticed for the rifle and haven't seen anyone discuss. Magazine catch doesn't want to release the magazines without some forward pressure on the box. I know I could file them down a couple mm, and they would be easier to take out, but I've never heard anyone talk about how you just need to affirmatively grab the mag, press it forward just a touch, then hit the mag release lever, and they drop out just fine. The old AK magazine sweep exchange isn't a think with this weapon system. Happy shooting.
Would love to see them bring the M76 back out. I loaded up on 50's yugo surplus 8mm years ago with the intent of getting one, but failed to do so before the prices skyrocketed.
You are not going to see new manufacture M-76s. That tooling was modified to make the M-91. Best we can hope for at this point is Factory assembled Frakenrifles made from imported Serbian surplus parts kit and new barrels.
@@sheldoniusRex You can find the parts kit. The trouble is the barrels are almost unobtanium. I have heard rumors of a custom builder that makes small batches from time to time but they are supposedly pricy.
an m1a is going to feel a lot smoother to shoot. Had and m77 sold it to get a paratrooper FAL. The para FAL recoiled like an akm. The m77 had a harsh recoil probably due to the zhukov stock
To provide someone with multiple types of training - on the AK platform and with BRs in general - for SHTF scenarios. It makes you smarter to own and use this. You'll understand rock-and-lock, bulky af magazines; it's a DMR so marksman and rifleman skills apply moreso than with x39 rounds; the ergonomics and takedown of the rifle are nearly 1:1 AK so any other AK you get will feel natural and vice versa if you're an AK guy wanting .308. So it's a definite BUY at $1500.

I would have loved to see wood furniture on it. I know a lot of people think AR10s are “better” but it’s still a very capable rifle. You will be able to get 1 moa out of the rifle at extended ranges. For a dmr role I feel like you’d be just fine if you know what you’re doing.
@@pewpewTN I agree and it may have been select guns as well but there were some groups in forums of the first owners who were out shooting and getting exceptional results with some guns. Its been some years, I wish i could point you to those posts and they may have been the rarity rather than the norm but the general consensus was that they were mostly exceptional shooters for an AK platform. There were people making wood furniture, adapters for different stocks etc because the one thing most hated was the butthole stocks. :)
Ar-10 is better with big caveats, I live in a cold area of Michigan for instance, If I ever wanted to trek out in sub zero temperatures I would take a AK over a AR every day. AR are more reliable than people give them credit for and AK are more accurate than people think. Still so, there are real practical advantages and truths to the AK reliability that aren't just overly exaggerated wives tales, cold weather function is one such example.
I just wish someone would FINALLY review their bolt action Sporter Mausers, and not just some amateur in a garage. Particularly, their 7.62x39 mini-mauser.
It would of been interesting to see it suppressed. As you know guys are always looking for platforms to take out wild pigs in Texas and if you can get a couple more, the farmers are typically happy.
That looks nice. Nicer than my old Century imported M77. Of course the Century ones were only 600, and didn't have chrome lined bores, and the machine work was a little rougher. With the price of 308 these days, a 200-300 round break in period can be expensive.
Here are my thoughts: You need a .308 in your arsenal if you own property and especially if you're American. You may want to keep your magazine assortment as simple as possible. .308s are inherently going to be paired to a specific rifle. Make this that gun if for no other reason than product support and proven testing.
Wow... those optics were taking some serious punishment in that slow-mo. I love the idea of a 308 ak w/ adjustable block & cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel. Wish it came standard w that furniture instead of the polymer though.

Thanks!
Get good brass because extractors on AKs are typically rough.
@@ritotron5752 Yeah.
🚀🚀😃😃
When the bolt carrier is chromed like that the action is faster and smoother less recoil etc just due to how well chrome can stay lubricated and greasy ,that's the part I noticed right away
Since FALs are harder and harder to come by and the mags are more and more outrageously priced, I want this as a .308 Battle Rifle.
Better than FAL. IMO
I really wish I would have bought a VEPR in .308 back when they were imported.
They released the wood furniture version and i snagged it just before the export ban ❤
Great Show! Thank you for the introduction to the M77. Hope to get my Hands on One Soon.
Man Zastava is really gonna make me buy both this and the new underfolder
Ranko!!!
This rifle looks great! I love these Serbian options, great job guys!
I just bought mine online today im super excited to get my hands on it
Had this come out like 2 years ago it would have saved me about $4,000.00.
I do love my AP Lr.308 and I'm sure I'm gonna love my MD LDP.
There was m77's back then
I bought 2 of them back in 2012. Got a deal on them. They both cost me what one would cost you now. They came with an ugly plastic thumbhole stock. Went on Copes and got me some M76 wood furniture to put on them.
@@jessesellers9873 I am new to AK world
@@ad41340 welcome to the AK world!
@@jessesellers9873 technically I don't think im in yet as my first (MD LDP) won't be finished being built till April. Its been a long year waiting.
About time James!!! But really thank you
That slow motion of the rifle flexing and wiggling.
I wasn't sure if I was hallucinating it too
@@usonumabeach300 7.62x39 AKs already have some wiggle in their walk when firing. That 308 though, I bet it could make a hula hoop go lol
AK IS FINE
@@tfbtv Oh make no mistake, I love my MAK-90. Would carry it into harms way without a doubt. I just found a moment of humor in that 308s wiggle 👍
Ak might be fine. Not so sure about the optics tho.
Just ordered my first Ak, a Zastava M70. Can’t wait to get it, really hope I like it. Seems like a great company
I have 3 zastavas . This m77 in .308-- m70 serbian red side folder & a m92 pap and out of the box so accurate, the finish is awesome. Very reliable and will run forever i love them
A Zastava Model 101 was the first car I ever drove ...😉
Trying the Zastava M77 would be very "interesting" .... it looks powerful, isn't it?
Yeah .308 is pretty spicy. The recoil isn’t bad though and once you break the rifle in you can use a low gas setting to reduce it even further.
Holy Moly 1:45-2:00 slow playback down and watch the optic rail and front sight with each round fired. They are moving all over like a wet noodle!!
Just saw one at my lgs it’ll definitely be my next grab
James, you Mad Lawyer You! I thought I dropped back into the 80’s and was looking at my brothers M76. I snapped out of it when I stood up and my knees creaked! Looks like an interesting rifle, but .308 doesn’t make your shoulder throb like the old M76 in 8mm. Fun times! Can’t wait to see what else you’ve for the rest of the week.
Not entirely true.
The super light Steyr Scout off the bench feels like I'm shooting .300 WM after a few rounds.
Just got mine ordered Saturday! happy to add it to the Zastava collection!
Whoa! I was expecting an MSRP of over $2K! 😳
One of the more exciting new imports for sure!
I want a Zastava just because this guy seems so cool!
1:45 there sure does seem to be a LOT of play in that top rail / scope mount.
Yeah, they pointed out it wasn't on correctly and in the latter half of the video it is fixed
See if you can find a parts kit or at least a barrel somewhere, and rebarrel a M77.
@@sheldoniusRex You can find the parts kit. The trouble is the barrels are almost unobtanium. I have heard rumors of a custom builder that makes small batches from time to time but they are supposedly pricy.
M76 production line was "lost" during 1999. NATO raids of Zastava factory.
I just bought 2!! Awesome
Id love to see this compared to an m1a, the actions are very similar
M1A is typically 3moa
@@SoccerVJ2011 I've normally seen them 2ish MOA, generally
an m1a is going to feel a lot smoother to shoot. Had and m77 sold it to get a paratrooper FAL. The para FAL recoiled like an akm. The m77 had a harsh recoil probably due to the zhukov stock
Just picked one of these up with wood furniture for the classic look. 👍👍
Great company.
Idk why you would want a 308 Ak....
I need it!
@@BeamMonsterZeus Idk why you'd pay more than the MSRP... $1370 everywhere right now.
Nothing wrong with it. Another Zastava one day I'll have to buy 😉
@@dutch0770 lol you're brainwashed - 1500 effective for us. At 1370 after fees and tax it's not far off of 1500 that you actually spend. Stop thinking of this in terms of MSRP and more in terms of practical cost to you.
@@BeamMonsterZeus the cost/price of a weapon is the cost of the weapon. Atlantic firearms doesn't charge taxes...even with the 30 shipping $1400. Educate yourself 🙄
Just ordered one of Atlantic on layaway. Can't wait for it 👍
I would have loved to see wood furniture on it. I know a lot of people think AR10s are “better” but it’s still a very capable rifle. You will be able to get 1 moa out of the rifle at extended ranges. For a dmr role I feel like you’d be just fine if you know what you’re doing.
1 moa?
I just don't know about that.
@@pewpewTN Some ammo did, Some was dreadful, like the ZQI
@@jsauerii That's still pretty impressive for any ammo to be 1 MOA in this platform.
Thank you for the video. I have one on the way! Love that the company was willing to spend time participating in this.
🤝👦🏻
I just wish someone would FINALLY review their bolt action Sporter Mausers, and not just some amateur in a garage. Particularly, their 7.62x39 mini-mauser.

Thanks for the review 🇵🇱♥️
Seeing everything wobble in the slow mo around the 1:40 mark didn't exactly fill me with confidence.
That optic is bouncing like crazy.
it's a magnifier. bounce is for effect.
why's the rear leaf sight bouncing up? looks like the whole rail isn't tight
The target also bounces dead when hit by 308 .
That’s normal for AK platform with side mount rail.
He said in a comment farther up that they didn’t tighten the mount correctly and realized after they started filming
Bought this last week from Atlantic and it’s supposed to arrive today!
What's your verdict on the rifle, any update?
It would of been interesting to see it suppressed. As you know guys are always looking for platforms to take out wild pigs in Texas and if you can get a couple more, the farmers are typically happy.
do you eat the pigs or just killed them... i love chicharron. lol

Its fantastic these are now available.
1:41 why is the rail soo loose??? Sick looking 308

Zastava firearms are top notch. My M70 is a tack driver.
Brownells stopped making BRN-10, so I’ll be getting this. Thanks.
Zastava 308 is a must have... So sweet.
I’ve got mine on order as we speak. Can’t wait super excited 😆
Remember when these were $550 through classic arms? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
I like your approach to things
Agree but you could have left out "in your arsenal if you own property and especially".
This comment made me laugh half true lol hi from serbia

Wow... those optics were taking some serious punishment in that slow-mo. I love the idea of a 308 ak w/ adjustable block & cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel. Wish it came standard w that furniture instead of the polymer though.

It does look off, but I still like it too.
Been wanting one for a bit now. Looks amazing
I have mine with a 4x14 scope and is my dedicated DMR now. No I will not be sniping Bin Laden from a mile away with it nor will it be a functional door kicker - but where I live in the western US, nothing but ranges and plains. Helps to send big lead at least in the vicinity of the target's vulnerable bits. All hypothetical of course - makes for an amazing hunting setup to impress all your friends and strike the fear of god into boomer hearts for its apocryphal KalashNATO configuration.
I have a m77 that I bought several yrs ago. It came with a thumb hole stock which I replaced with an aftermarket adapter. I like the stock on this model and also the forward furniture on it. Where can I purchase the upgraded furniture for my m77. BTW it's a beast battle weapon.
You can buy it all on zastava website
I have the slant rear trunnion m77 as well. I don't think the butt stock is compatible. I have a Galil style ace stock on mine.
