Sorry but you glossed over a very important step when you said "it's just a matter of putting the required amount of oil..." This is important to get right, and it's easy to do wrong if it's your first try (like me!) The owner's manual emphasizes in three places: "DO NOT OVERFILL!" e.g. Pg. 91 step 13. When you overfill, the moving parts in a running engine may cause the oil to froth and fail to lubricate. The manual suggests 3 quarts, then run the engine for 30 seconds then stop it. Hold the bike in a vertical position (I installed spools and use a stand) and then check the sight glass. The trick about the sight glass is that it shows nothing until you reach the ballpark, which is a little over 3 quarts. The sightglass is it's not like filling a bottle that begins to show something the moment you start pouring. The difference between the low mark and the high mark is about 8 ounces. My first try, I overfilled it! The oil went past the top of the sightglass and with my inexperience I couldn't tell if it was too low or too full. Now I know better. When you reach the low mark, then warm up the engine and check the level again. Page 50 says "Oil level will not be accurate if checked on a cold engine. DO NOT ADD oil to raise level to middle of sight glass on a cold engine, as this can result in overfilling." It's true! This oil is a thick as molasses at room temperature. Gotta check the sightglass when hot, and only when the bike is upright, not on the sidestand. -- I felt dumb.. wasted 4 quarts draining and refilling from scratch. lol . All this being said, the Indian Motorcycle website also skipped the same detail in their video, but has since overlaid it with details, and fixed their text. www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/self-help/article/KA-01665/
Good point ... I guess I never thought of it because I never put the max amount of oil in at first out of habit. I forget not everybody has been doing this as long as I have!
Let me start by saying I'm not making fun of you or anything but I've never heard of the trim S RR do you mean carbon as I googled what you wrote but can't find anything. Is this a special edition bike or ???
It is a standard BMW filter wrench that fits their F (parallel twin) bikes. The torque wrench is George's digital Snap-on tool. It's the one with the 1/4" fitting on it.
What’s everyone out there getting as far as gas mileage on your FTR? I just calculated mine today and i got 32. I only have 600 miles on mine. Seems low to me!!

Saved me a ton of money with this video! Thanks dude!
YESS!!!
Great video, I just bought a FTR S RR a month ago and ready for my first oil change, this helps.

Thank you for all the information Sir.
Thank you sir!
Thank you for your video!!!
My pleasure!
You can see the Allen wrench in the video attached to the front bottom of engine.
thanks for pointing it out - I completely missed it
Are both drain plugs the same, can you mix them up ?
Yes.
Great Video! Could you tell me what filter wrench and what torque wrench did you use? Size and brand if possible. Thanks bro.

@@chiba131 thanks bro. God bless and be safe.
Is it 3 or 4 qt of oil , the oil change kit had four bottles!
3, but you may need a little more, I think that's why they include the 4th bottle.
can you remove the oil filter wo the oil filter wrench
if it wasn't put on by a gorilla and you have strong hands & wrists, maybe!
What kind of oil should I get if I can not find the Indian specific kind of oil??
You can't go wrong with Amsoil products. Be sure to get the right viscosity, though. Almost positive Amsoil has it.

getting about the same, 32, maybe 36 on a good day
it's just too much fun to go fast, which kills mileage!
Who makes the oil for Indian does anyone know?
I think the rumour is Amsoil. 🤷🏻♂️
@@elcucuygarage That would be incorrect. Indian oil is made by Lube Tech, which is an affiliate of Mobil.
Wonder why there’s two drain plugs ?
Ktm’s have like 2 oil filters and one oil screen lmao
Yes, I have them calibrated every couple of years.
Is it true that it’s a 10000 mile increments after the first 500 mile oil change?
That's what is in the owner's manual. I'm doing mine every 5000 or 1 year, whichever comes first.
What kind of ratchet is that ?
some kind of swivel-head deal I got at Lowe's
Where's your shop at?
Warrenton VA but we only work on BMWs (I just happen to have an Indian)
@@chiba131 i just happen to have bmws... and Indians. And Harleys.. and well.. i have problems
@@skippynj1979 I don't see any problems there man :)
@@chiba131 I'm at 5 right now... 100 is the goal..
