Great work guys! You could also say that is in A.P.'s films that you see a happy ending coming after the main character has suffered a loss. Win some, lose some kind of thing. And this is why all his films can really reach everyone. Because they are neither entirely pesimistic nor entirely optimistic. Just like life itself.
6:30 Man, Frank Darabont is the best! This is a great video essay my friend! I hope you continue to make videos and gain more subscribers. You certainly deserve them. Keep up the good work!

+Vico Córdova Hey! No worries, basically "ineptitude" means being inept and ineffective at something. So they lack the required parental skills or abilities.
Loved your presentation of Alexander Payne. Only part I didn't like was the sometimes unbalanced audio of the film clips (heavy on the left channel). Anyhow good stuff there looking forward to your next essay. Subscribed :)
I just stumbled upon Election (1999), and was just thoroughly reigned in by it's dark satire. Interesting to learn a bit more about the director. I'll have to check out some of his other movies.
Payne has a real sense of … just life, I guess…. He’s very tender, poignant, caring, and he’s barometer of good/bad taste is as precise as you can get. So few directors are like that nowadays.
Oh my gosh! No wonder I consider Alexander Payne as my favorite director and I have seen most of his movies and liked them. Because currently, I am yet to leave my mark and it's hard! Srsly, a man who has done so much yet still makes movies about people who see themselves as failures. You can say that Payne is one humble and empathetic sort of a guy. Plus, the recurring themes of failed marriages?
Fantastic video. The title sounded very interesting to me but I didn't think I knew any Alexander Payne films so I thought I shouldn't watch it to avoid spoilers, I say fuck it and it turned out I knew all of the films and loved them individually without knowing they were all the same director. Fair play I agree with this view of failure and found the essay quite touching, I look forward to more.
+Happy Now Thank you for your lovely comment! One of or main aims when choosing to focus on Payne's work was for that very reason! SO many people are aware of his wonderful work but not necessarily the man behind them all!
Great subject, guys. Payne is tragically underrated. He also directed the pilot of HBO's Hung and the closing film from Paris j'Taime (ruclips.net/video/mJG0lqukJTQ/видео.html), both of which are excellent.
Wow! There is A LOT of nudity here. Was expecting a little more covering up, but still fairly good and thorough summary of one of the best comedy durectors out there. Be interesting to see if you make a follow up video since The Holdovers is getting masstive attention.

+mankriter Excellent point! Thanks for your great comment!
He never use same actor for main character, but all of them are able to show massive performance.
That is until last year with Paul Giamatti coming back for The Holdovers.
Wonderful video, opened my eyes to the Payne's films and definitely reminded me that I need to watch Sideways again!
+Ricardo Cruz Thanks for your kind words! Any excuse to watch Sideways again is totally worth it!
Sideways was an awesome movie,,it feels so real,,one of my all time favorites

Great video. Earned a sub
Great essay!
Coolio, back in college I wrote a paper on “Election” similar to this.

Great video diminished by obtrusive music.

Emotionally handicapped characters who only understands sex as being close to someone. Sort of like he dealt with 15 year old Rose.
