What's your favourite Robert Altman movie?
That Cold Day in the Park (1969)
Okay this is the obvious one...but Nashville is just too good
Nashville, with 3 Women coming in a very close second.
The Long Goodbye
Vincent & Theo
This being an Altman interview I’m surprised he and Dick weren’t talking over one another throughout
Exactly! McCabe and Mrs. Miller is a clear indication of just that. Probably my personal fave of his. From the time period to the acting leads - not to mention Leonard Cohen’ music for the film. Just perfection sans the poor quality of audio due to the overlapping-
But his technique is exactly what makes it so great
@@Danuta628 I really need to check out McCabe and Mrs. Miller! Leonard Cohen is one of my fav musicians. I think my favorite Altman film is probably Nashville at the moment. Thanks for the recommendation!
One of the most underrated directors. Seen the Long Goodbye, Three Women, Short Cuts, they cut so deep. Haven't seen his two legendary ones, Nashville and M.A.S.H can't wait.
You should also watch Mccabe and Mrs Miller and The Player ✌
Watch The Player and Gosford Park as well
@@georgesetzer5283 Thank you for the suggestions.
Just watch them all. Especially cain mutiny court marshall
Nashville is like a comfort movie for me. Definitely check that one out
R.I.P Robert Altman!
My favorite director, love him!
Anyone else see this come up in their feed and think "Those crazy '70s...Altman's doing the interview shirtless!"
Please post the final Bobby Fischer interview from after he won the world championship!
❤
2:00 his prediction came true with modern cinema
Based Altman
Is this channel ever going to show Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason and/or Art Carney? I don’t have the Decades channel.
It's kinda disappointing how Dick will have a guest back on the show, and ask the same question, and basically have the same conversation that he did the previous time they were on. I've seen something similar with Groucho (pretty sure Groucho told the same exact story on 3 different appearances) and I believe with Lucille Ball as well. I know it was before the age of reruns, so they never expected anyone to see these shows again, but you'd think Dick would remember something as bizarre as Altman telling him he's afraid of the dark.
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all of these.
pre Popeye. Altman was hit or miss for me. Short Cuts and The Player are wonderful.
I liked Beyond Therepy.
Short Cuts is the only movie of his I can point to and say I've seen. Lyle Lovett was amazing.
@Robert Smith Yes, this came right after The Player which was Altman's return to the spotlight after being away for a while. He had no problems casting as I think everyone wanted to work with him. I saw it when it played at the Chicago Int'l Film Festival, the audience was packed that night. Sadly, by the following film Pret a Porter, the magic seemed to wear off for me.
Wonderful interview. PLEASE STOP LETTERBOXING THESE CLIPS. You don’t need to export these with black bars on the side to make them 16:9. RUclips optimizes 4:3 clips for any screen . Currently, when viewing all these clips on a 4:3 screen they are completely bordered by an ugly thick black bar.
MASH is a great movie
He thought of Film as an extension of other art-form even after the release of 2001? Strange.
Same thought occurred to me.
I think he almost certainly realized Kubrick did it with "2001: A Space Odyssey," but was just not mentioning it for whatever reason. In fact Kubrick (from that film on with his works), and later Terrence Malick and David Lynch created films that are much less theatrical and much more visual and sound experiences that go very far beyond the idea of a simple stage play type of story and people talking at one another.
Film today is in the toilet.
There's plenty of great films!
