Thanks for this video and the shellback video. I was forward deployed with VAQ-136 from 2000-2006 and its really hard to explain some things about being underway. The moment to chill out and just watch the waves in smoke pit really comes across in this video. The shellback video is great as well as I was a wog for that cruise but crossed twice after that. Thanks again for the videos
I remember walking through the hangar and seeing an A-7 Corsair shot up. You could see inside the fuselage in several places. Belts of 50cal rounds. Crazy shit to see for an 18 yr old. '72 WESTPAC. Stood smoke watch and would count the number of aircraft in each squadron leaving the flight deck and then when they'd return. Unfortunately not everyone made it back on a couple of occasions. War is hell.
My ship (''82-'85) AND... my Squadron (VA-192 Golden Dragons) for a TAD deployment to Iwakuni, Japan (1985). Wonder why there are two "Captain's Gigs" on the ship. One must be for ADM (Battle Group Commander). Glad to know (as a former smoker) that Kitty Hawk provided "smoking sponsons" for the nicotine addicted. I was under the impression that shortly after my sea tour was up, that all USN ships went to "non-smoking." That would make for some seriously anxious, depressed, and unhappy crew members for sure. On the bright side... if they could go one IO period without smoking, then they might as well give up forever and be much better off for it.
Guess that E-2 Hawkeye with "USS KITTY HAWK" on the tail is on the wrong ship then. BTW... USS Kitty Hawk (and other carriers) don't have a "tail insignia." Squadron aircraft do though, and this shipmate clearly stated that the insignia on the VFA-192 F-18 was of "The Golden Dragons."

Wrong ship, tail insignia is not the Hawk
What are you talking about ?!? Minute 4 clearly shows Kitty Hawk. 🤨
