- After Nas dropped Ether from the 2001 Stillmatic album, he was invited to headline at Hot 97's Summer Jam. He planned a skit to hang Jay-Z. Hot 97 didn't approve and wanted Nas to scrap the skit. He refused and never performed at Summer Jam.
Nas went on a rant about the state of Hip Hop and dissed rappers like Cam'ron, N.O.R.E and Nelly.

The messed thing about it was. Summer Jam is a concert. It is not like we are talking about broadcasting with FCC rules and regulations. Concerts are free form art and should not be censored if there is no harm done to a human or an animal. It showed hot 97 bias towards Jay'z and it was truly a shame on how a radio station can protect and save an artist.
