Young man, you've just made my day. I'm 65, playing for over 50 years. I can strum a good country tune, but your lesson today was an excellent that rhythm is EVERYTHING. No silly talk, no stupid jokes, just a clear lesson done with humility! I'm subscribed! God bless you!

🎉I fell in love with Hill Country blues when I first heard it years ago. I got everything I could find by Junior Kimbrough, RL Burnside, Othar Turner, Fred McDowell, Kenny Brown and the Dickenson Brothers’ North Mississippi Allstars. I picked up guitar again after retirement a few years ago and was looking for something like this. Thanks!

hey, have you ever gave a listen to tishoumaren or as it's known in the west desert blues? Hillcountry blues and Saharan blues have so many similarities and yet they're so distinct. I bet I'm not the first person just in case give Ali Farka Touré, Tinariwen, Abdallah Oumbadougou. I love your channel, your lessons are great. I'm trying to apply them to my accordion learning process. One love❤️

@bartmay9560 Thank you , i had the pleasure of being around RL because we are from the same area in Mississippi and he visited my grandfather's juke joint often and performed. THANKS FOR WATCHING
@johnford7847 🙏🏿 Thank you, in my opinion Mr. Kenny Brown, Cedric Burside, Kent Burside, Dewayne Burside( even though he's multi genre blues to me).and Gary Burside. And I'd throw North Mississippi Allstars in there as well. These are all active, true North Mississippi artists, in my opinion. And Sharde Thomas, Otha Turner's granddaughter. There are others throughout small towns and counties, but i don't have the knowledge of them ever publicly releasing music that you can find ( yet ).
Good tips, Cam. I heard them all the way from New Zealand. So, why do you prefer Open D vs Open E? Just to put less stress on the neck? I notice a lot of guys who tune to Open D put a capo on the 2nd fret to bring it Open E.
@sunjamrblues i prefer open G actually and it is less stress on the neck, but I mainly play in open G because I gravitated towards that tuning when I first started from being around and hearing Mr. RL. BURSIDE
No idea if you still chillin around ABQ, yet have you found that your blues style has altered a bit into a slightly different form? I would assume that it is very difficult to go west of texas and not start to encounter native american type trance rhythms and mexican/american style rhythms(salsa/tango/3 step/ etc)....and NOT incorporate that into your music somehow lol.
@camkimbrough6103 You still sound like you from my perspective. I only hear what you upload though. Guitarists often play very different when in improv mode and collaborating with other musicians. I do vaguely remember at one point maybe a year or so back, you were playing something that reminded me a bit of Pink Floyd. Yet, I think every guitarist always wants to riff on the hendrix and pink floyd psychedelic style sometimes lol. That is just way too fun.
@py_a_thon Well I've been listening to different types of music since a teenager including bands like 7 dust, incubus, system of a down, GodSmack etc...so sometimes some of that stuff may bleed out a lil bit.
@camkimbrough6103 Incubus has some deceptively chill music. And their early stuff was almost like what pink floyd may have been in another decade, and with Syd Barret instead of David Gilmour lol. Those are some fun bands though. The music tastes of musicians is often so ecclectic lol. What we listen to is not always what we play.
Feel free to view my channel for videos that are focused on the strumming hand. This video clearly shows the focal point, which is a simple strumming pattern.
