The building on the right at 0:32 is interesting. Steel frame Early Chicago style. Probably built in the early 1920 or possibly before that. Look at that awning...! Nice condition and you could never replace it. It looks like Wheeling has some of it's roads nicely paved and others on schedule for it.
I live in Martinsburg( eastern panhandle) it’s always interested me if the rest of WV looked as bad as it does here. Wheeling doesn’t look too different, it goes to show that majority of wv looks run down I wish they’d fix our state. At least the roads. 🤷🏾♂️
had some good friends that lived right around there, ask your dad if he knew the Crook family, had a very unfortunate death diving in swimming pool of one.
@johnmoore4 My Dads Address was 347 Hazlett the house he grew up in is no longer there Wheeling Linen bought the house around September 94 and the house was torn down a few years after
@wowwsa M when did they live in the area my Dad did? It’s a Ghost town . Had been there this week . You will find many homeless around . Don’t get out of your car especially if you are with your family . It’s like horror or zombies movie scene out there. Horrible . Guy with cigarette in mouth pushing stroller with baby was like WTF moment. No cops around too . Be careful and don’t ever get out of your car.
@@Godaround I just watched a video where a lady bought a house for 18,500 dollars in this town to do it up and said it was a great place to live, cost of living is low and that they are trying to get more people in to revive the town but it seems like a very depressing place with not much going on and sad for the people ..
Downtown is replacing 100+ year old water main, so it's a mess. Also, have a major streetscaping project to start after. So with the I-70 construction and all that, it's a mess at the moment, not that it's ever great, just worse right now.

Wheeling has a relatively urban look for a city of 28,000 people. I’m sure that has to do with it being an older city that once had a much larger population

It is inaccurate, as I am from Wheeling, WV you only displayed downtown.. you missed Wheeling Island; Oglebay Park; Wheeling Park; Wheeling University; and the rural & waterfront parts of Wheeling.
I found this video shocking as an American truck driver of 20 years who has struggled to find parking at the TA just outside Wheeling at exit 11 at 4 in the afternoon.

It is a city, but it is depressed. Weat Virginia cities all look the same. They gave up on growth and prosperity because they have none. Charleston, Morgantown, Martinsburg, Beckley, and Huntington, forever doomed cities. They will never reach anything and people will move out because they are boring, placid towns that no one desires to live or do business in.
@@Heavy_Distortion Was in Wheeling during summer of 2020 pandemic and it does look depressed. was in Charleston and Morgantown spring 2021 and they too look somewhat depressed but not like Wheeling. I actually went all over the country for 3 months due to covid layoff and WV the only place without the stupid "we believe love is love" or "blm" signs up (or very very few). It was like the whole state was too removed or depressed to have the time or inclination to get involved in that mass American stupidity/virtue signaling.
@@bluerfoot Thanks for your input. Wheeling is exact opposite of Silicon Valley. For this reason I want to live in WV. Gorgeous historic towns with awful economy. Perfect for remote tech worker.

Yummm, dicarlos pizza!!
Having always lived in southern West Virginia I have only been to Wheeling once. It looks like Wheeling has seen its better days.
Did you notice that there are NO people around?
Sad
My dad grew up in the Wheeling area Hazlett Avenue in Warwood next to the Wheeling linen building

I have cousins who live on Hazlitt Ave in Warwood .

I’m old enough to remember Wheeling as a thriving little city. Industries shut down, kids moved away, poor leadership brought it to this. It’s sad.

Where's the people? This town would make a perfect setting for an Apocalypse movie.
I've traveled the globe, and have never seen roads in this condition in any advanced nation I've been to.
If you go to any more rural area away from big cities they’re actually everywhere if the country spans wide enough.
You've never seen roads under construction?

See the city once known as the Gate way to West makes me very sad. This city should be drawing by the thousands.
the downtown has such good bones! amazing architecture there. it’s a shame how things have changed
But no jobs so why move to a city where theres no jobs?

Moundsvilles almost bigger than wheeling now.... I don't miss the valley at all

Why are the roads in the US so bad everywhere?
This is Los Angeles in a few years
What the heck happened right at the 3:00 mark?????? I’m I going crazy??????
Rather than sitting for a couple of minutes at the traffic light, I edited that out and added a dissolve.
Looks like a one way street
Back in the day, that intersection was one of the busiest.
What a difference 50 years makes.
What’s the population there like two people?
Depressing city Needs help
A very eerie town
