A Skeletal System Tour: Axial, Appendicular, and Major Bones Explained

Welcome back, everyone! In today's video, we're embarking on an extensive journey through the skeletal system. This is a lot to take in, but remember, it's a survey course, so you don't need to memorize everything! We're here to explore, understand, and appreciate the complexity and beauty of our skeletal structure. 🦴🔍
We'll start by differentiating between the axial and appendicular regions of the skeletal system. The axial skeleton forms our body's main axis, comprising the skull, vertebral column, and thoracic cage. On the other hand, the appendicular skeleton includes our limbs and girdles (pectoral and pelvic).
Then, we'll dive into the major bones of the body. We'll touch on the skull's cranial and facial portions, the vertebral column's cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions, and more. While we discuss these bones, we'll also briefly cover bone markings like trochanters, crests, and processes, but we won't get into every detail.
Our exploration will extend to the appendicular skeleton, where we'll look at the clavicle, scapula, humerus, radius, ulna, and the bones of the hand and foot. Plus, we'll delve into the hip bones, femur, tibia, fibula, and the intricate structure of the foot, including the tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges.
