Frey honoring his former boss, who also happens to have had the most powerful and tender pipes of the Rock and Roll era. Wishing Linda peace and joy.

Felder would also jam from time to time with the Eagles in their rehearsal space.
In 1974, Felder was called by the Eagles to add slide guitar to their song "Good Day in Hell". The following day he was invited to join the band. The band started moving away from their initial country rock style in the direction of rock. On the band's fourth album, One of These Nights, Felder sang lead vocal on the song "Visions", which he co-wrote with Don Henley, and arranged the title track's distinctive guitar solo and bass line. After founding member Bernie Leadon quit in 1975, Joe Walsh joined the band.Felder had jammed with fellow guitar player Walsh on occasion prior to Walsh's joining the Eagles, and together as dual guitar leads they would eventually become one of rock music's most memorable on-stage partnerships.

At the age of fifteen he started his first band, The Continentals, which also included Stephen Stills.
Around this time, he met Bernie Leadon, who later became one of the founding members of the Eagles. Leadon replaced Stills in The Continentals, which eventually changed its name to the Maundy Quintet. Felder and Leadon both attended Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Florida. In the 1966 Gainesville High School yearbook, the Maundy Quintet is pictured next to another Gainesville High student and his early band: Tom Petty and The Epics. Felder gave Petty guitar lessons at a local music shop for about 18 months, at which time Felder also learned how to play slide guitar from Duane Allman.[2] The Maundy Quintet recorded and released a 45 rpm single on the Tampa-based Paris Tower label in 1967, which received airplay in north-central Florida.

Frey modestly does not include a songwriting team that Linda had another hit with: Henley-Frey. Even Don Henley admits that her version of "Desperado" is the definitive version. But I do wish that Frey would have included Warren Zevon in the list of her favorite songwriters. He probably just forgot.

This guy, Henley and the other one Frey something, those small and jealous criaturas could not stand with the genius of Don Felder!! The EAGLES without Felder, would become already an unknown band!! That is clear and obvious!!! It is insane to fire the best musician in the band, who gave to the EAGLES those hits!!!

He was certainly gracious to Linda Ronstadt who a contributor to the Eagles early success. What Henley and Frey did to Don Felder was deplorable. Felder was a huge part of their rock success and basically wrote Hotel California. I've had no interest in the Eagles since they fired Felder. They have been reduced now to just being a cover band of themselves.

I don't know what happened in their early days, why did they fire Don Felder?

It was a control issue by Henley and Frey from everything I have read. Henley admitted when the Eagles became successful that there was a friction between the members creatively to remain there. From my understanding Frey and Henley wanted control of the writing, but Walsh, Felder and Schmit were talented guys. When you consider that Felder wrote the majority of Hotel California from his beach house on his daughter's tape player, without question their signature song, that he was not content with them dictating to them. They all referred to "The Long Run" as the "long one." All of them contributed on that album with Schmit's "I can't tell you why" , Walsh's "In the city" and Felder's "Those shoes." the album took 2 years to make and it was difficult. Schmit had replaced Randy Meisner and was only on this album before the 14 year "vacation" as referred to by Frey on the intro to "Get over it" on their "Hell Freezes Over" album in '94. When Felder was dismissed, he received notice by a FedEx envelope and a call from his attorney. Don Felder IMHO gave the Eagles their later harder edge rock sound. I have heard through accounts that Frey was intimidated by Felder's level of guitar and I have heard Walsh with my own ears say Felder was a better guitarist than himself. Felder taught Tom Petty how to play guitar and Petty who is in Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists of all time list and Felder is not, which is insane. Petty credited Felder "Everyone knew when they lived in Florida that Don was the best player around." He also said Felder told him he had to come to California if he ever wanted to make it and Petty did. Sorry so long winded, but to sum it up, Henley and Frey had gone corporate and fired Felder for no legitimate reason. Felder didn't even know he could be fired. Read Don Felder's Wiki page. In his early career he rubbed shoulders with legends and was their peer. You just don't fire a guy who contributed what he did to the band. Check this recent article.

Felder came up with the basic melody and guitar riff to Hotel California and was duly credited and gets royalties from it to this day. The lyrics were mostly written by Henley with Frey's help.
