Seeing how NJ's effected you emotionally was similar to how I felt after my first listen. Always enjoy your break downs. I tried to break down why this particular song vibed more with me than usual...until I listened to the (instrumental) version. The track just BANGS! Mix in the members...its magic.
The core beat draws heavily from the Electro genre and I hear a lot of TR-808 sounding samples there. Funny that we had an electro dance break with Aespa and now this...
I think they have a distinct sound as you said because of the relaxed singing style - even their harmonies are in lower registers. They have uncomplicated, melodious songs that are highly memorable and traditional structure when it feels like other groups are cramming multiple genres into songs.
I won't mention any names, because just saying this one particular person's name tends to trigger people. But it's their greatest talent is bringing together a team to bring their vision to life. The entire production team from choreographers to song writers, everyone! They mesh together so well to bring us NewJeans.

My personal answer is that Newjeans sounds like they can exist outside of KPop...theyre the most natural and genuine sounding out of all the kpop groups i have heard as well. I'm pretty sure their sound is also manufactured like the others (in some way) but i can feel their personalities in their songs.
Like if you replace Newjeans members and someone else sings these songs, it might sound more perfect but the personality is gone.
They make the music they make very quirky and full of "personal touch", like you know they own the songs and make it their own, maybe someone else wrote it, maybe they wrote some of it, but they own it.
Very very rare for musicians to sound like their own genre even when they borrow things...The Beatles, RATM, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana,...once you hear their songs, YOU KNOW ITS THAT ARTIST.
thats how newjeans come off to me, and thats why i think theyre a once in a generation kpop group. They dont even sound kpop, you can insert them in any pop scene and they will float above the rest...especially with kpop that is very formulaic and manufactured in their sound

This song is the 'Miami Bass' genre which is more of a 'clubland' variant of 90s rnb.. so yeah there kinda is hip hop influence there. I will tell you what it is about there music because i am a fan of the genres they use specifically... the get up EP onwards they have used a combination of more obscure UK and US 'clubland styles... specifically 'uk garage' (for the most part), 'miami bass', 'jersey club' and 'drum and bass' .... they all are different clubland sounds but they share enough similarities to be able to be fused quite seamlessly together.. i.e fast synths, superfast hi hats and snares, electronic fast drum sounds and big basslines.. this is their first pure 'miami bass' tune... but 'supershy' for example was predominantly 'uk garage' with elements of 'drum and bass' but also basslines associated with 'miami bass'... new jeans and cool with you are my faves thoughs because of their pure uk garage sound which is one of my fave gnres of all time

recently imitated but will never ever be duplicated!!! Each NJ member brings something to the table that just makes their unique sound works. They just have great group chemistry and it really shows in their fun choreos when they are performing together. Their MVs are well made to look like a group of friends just having fun naturally and organically. They are very relatable w/ their down to earth personalities. You just want to have friends like them!

NewJeans fr NEVER misses! It’s actually incredible how much they deliver music that feels different, understated, brilliant and fresh every time.
The producer is 250. Yeah, that is his name. Afaok he also a DJ, has his own label which Krystal(fx) is part of, and also has some album of hos own.
For everyone who doesn't know, this MV was actually filmed in my hometown, Taiwan.

Are there any other Kpop girl groups quite so affable? The ones I've seen all seem to be going for a 'fierce' persona like Blackpink. NewJeans, like in the mv Ditto, you just want to hang out with them.

Kaia, I don't wanna get too deep into this but I sincerely appreciate A LOT how objective you are and how you can value their craft as much as you do. Ig when I think of NJ I can't think only about 5 girls. It's impossible not to quickly learn about them as individuals and what makes each of them unique, but also I think about their whole team, the way their label handles things, directors, and the fandom. NewJeans to me is one big team of people that work together to make the most amazing stuff happen, and they succeed. To this day I've never seen another group make content as fun and interesting and just well done as they do. Every single video posted on their channel is cheff kiss, there are no skips. And then there's their music and MV's, their choreography. They just work with the best, most creative minds there are out there.
What is it so addictive about it? That it's relatable. I dare to say that it's real... it's natural. The first thing I thought when I saw NJ for the first time was "they look naturally beautiful... they don't look like they only eat and apple a day".
Danielle said in a phoning live that they think they make easy to listen music, songs you could listen to every day without growing super tired of it (just like you never get tired of wearing your fav clothes). I think that's definitely true. Also, if you look at their outfits for most MV's and performances, 90% of the time they wear clothes that seem genuinely comfy but also, regular clothes that you can go and buy yourself. That shouldn't be overlooked.
I really like BP, for instance, but most of their outfits are conceptual performance outfits that we wouldn't really usually wear ourselves. And that's the case for most groups. They managed to make every single detail just relatable, and what's even better, when you look at how the members dress when they're wearing their own clothes, it's so similar to NJ style.
I remember in an older interview MHJ had said she chose the members considering the kind of music and style that she had in mind for the group so that it would be genuine. They wouldn't be forced into a concept and wouldn't dread singing those songs and wearing those clothes, they could just enjoy it. And I can definitely tell that they did a great job at that, because that's exactly how you feel when you see them. Doesn't seem like a performance, that's just them doing what they like doing and dressing how they like dressing.

You know, I distinctly recall your first ever reaction to NJs (when Attention first came out) and you paused the mv to comment that "no one else is doing this" or words to that effect. And that sentiment still holds now. In fact, the question is not "who else is doing this?" but rather "who else could do this?".
And thats the thing. Other groups could copy this but they wouldn't touch the quality of the originals.
