- Finally! France Sends First Batch of Mirage 2000 Jets to Ukraine
The first batch of French Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets is set to arrive in Ukraine by January 20, 2025, according to reports from Avions Legendaires. The initial batch is expected to include three to six aircraft, which will likely replace Ukraine’s aging fleet of Su-24 bombers.

Both Mirage 2000-5s and Rafales are or were designed and manufactured by Dassault Aviation 🟦⬜🟥 and their reactors are / were also designed and produced by another French company: Safran (ex-SNECMA) 🟦⬜🟥.
The Mirage 2000-5 is no longer manufactured, but Dassault's order book for the Rafale F4.1 (the latest standard available) is full for the coming years. For both France's Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace and for France's export customers such as India or Egypt. The Rafale is outselling the Eurofighter Typhoon on export markets simply because it is a better, more versatile, cheaper and more cost-efficient 4.5+ gen. aircraft. 😉
Ukraine has always shown a lot of interest for the Rafale. Will this lead to firm orders in the near future?

Le CAESAR n'est pas un "Howitzer" mais un canon monté sur un camion, ce n'est pas un blindé, mais un système d'artillerie.
Le CAESAR est un "self-propelled howitzer".
Howitzer ne veut absolument pas dire que c'est un blindée. C'est un terme qui signifie obusier et qui existe depuis un bon 200 ans. En, l'occurrence c'est un canon qui tire en cloche le M777 américain qui est tracté est un Howitzer par exemple

Mirage 2000s can carry new missile, storm shadow cruise missiles and meteor air-to-air missiles. As goid as F-16s even better at high attitude fighter missions. Big bonus.

The Mirage has basically superior aerodynamics, centered around a nearly perfect delta wing which is both ancient and new at the same time. It should not be compared with the F-16, which has a wing which makes it dynamically unstable.

The F-16 donated to Ukraine were also made in Europe, Sabca in Belgium and Fokker in Netherlands. So no american F-16 has been donated to Ukraine! The US helps with education and technical support of Ukrainian personel.

I have said from the beginning Ukraine would do better with F18 Hornets retiring from Australia and the Saab Gripen which both have reinforced landing gear for rough run ways. Also the Gripen can be operated on roads as air strip.

Britain will have approx 18 Typhoons soon to be replaced. I have read a British expert say they are "Tranche 1 aircraft and not suited to Ukrainian requirements" whatever that is supposed to mean. They now have 2 excellent aircraft in the F16 and Mirage - Would it be wise to give them a dozen different types like we have done with tanks/artillery/APC's etc. I wonder if the EU were to offer to buy 50 F16's the US has in reserve if that would be accepted by Trump's people?

Besides I have read the 1st Tranche Typhoons would not be suitable for usage in Ukraine and so they will not be offered. I cannot remember the reaons given for that.

A beautiful yet purposeful design - a big step up from the Russki aircraft Ukraine has. Bear in mind France is only going to hand over ten Mirages over a period of a couple of years - so how many are in the first batch.
UK has about 18 Typhoons which are to be replaced in the next year or so - wonder if Ukraine could find a use for them?
Hopefully France can provide a few more than ten eventually. In the meantime I suspect the Ukrainian are happy to have anything which is an improvement on the old Russian planes.
