Beautiful. Surprised to read though that the names Williams and Jones originated in England. I'd always thought they were thoroughly Welsh. Lots must have migrated there at some point.
What was the director doing between 00:12 and 03:45? Was there only one camera working? Actually astounded by the complete lack of direction throughout this whole interview. When I was at school in the 70's and early 80s Border was always known as the cheap and nasty network - along with Grampian. LWT appeared to have money as made some amazing quiz and variety shows.
I certainly loved his. comedic b.s. but I always had the sensatiom that he was a bitter . unhappy soul. Learning to talk that phony upper class English... Is amazing
Always love Kenneth Williams interviews but as I've got older I've come to suspect many of his anecdotes were exaggerated and/or inaccurate in some way, and quite a few were probably outright lies. The one about his father being a delivery boy for the LMS and calling it a hell of a mess is unlikely to be true in my opinion...the LMS was only formed in 1922, by which time Williams' father was well into his 20s, far too old for a delivery boy.
Probably taken aback, he was such a unique force of nature, reminds me of Miranda Hart saying how she'd sit stonefaced in front of the Morecambe & Wise show and her mum thinking she wasn't enjoying it but she was so caught up savouring it and computing it all
Only on Border Television could a man as dull as Derek Batey ever have had a successful career. Genially bland or blandly genial (take your pick), Batey hosted this show and the game(y) show "Mr and Mrs" for what feels like decades.
He barely said a word in this interview, which probably suited Kenneth Williams who just loved to talk and talk. The antithesis of modern chat shows where the host is so full of themselves the guest can't get a word in.
Also the confusion about cows and sheep was a bit bizarre...I'm not Welsh and not an expert at all but I seem to recall a lot of cow's milk was produced in lowland south / southwest Wales back in the day (no idea if that's still the case)...as an educated man of Welsh stock you would have expected Kenneth to have known that.
Derek Batey was a very religious person...his much-parodied catchphrase as host of Mr & Mrs was "God Bless". He looks uncomfortable and embarrassed with Kenneth's overt gay innuendo.
"He looks uncomfortable and embarrassed with Kenneth's overt gay innuendo". Although I'm sure he was totally relaxed and comfortable with the rampant child molestation and paedophilia, indulged in by the clergy.
Unprecedented, unique, unequalled never to be repeated. RIP
Bless him, we need these unique characters now
Absolutely 💯 brilliant
Kenneth comic genius 🎉
R.I.P Kenneth.
I hope you have found the peace and love never experienced in life.
❤❤
Two giants of broadcasting & entertainment

Where's the rest of it?

He actually "served" never forget that. And maybe, just maybe it was that holiday camp he wanted us to believe.

Oh brilliant 🙂🙂. The crowd seems a bit subdued tho. Didn’t they realise they were listening to genius?

I could sit and listen to him all day….when he began to talk you knew you were in for a great moment in time.

His jackets made up for it.
Have to agree - beyond dull and banal if you were a teenager at the time - although my gran loved him! Just look at the audience...

He always talked about his parents being from Wales, but mimics them in a cockney accent. So maybe his grandparents were?
