I recently listened to a video essay about how the Hunger Games series is about colonialism (or heavily features themes about it), and the school makes a lot of sense in this context because it serves the function of controlling the population and extracting resources, so they learn coal science and propaganda.
Woah, why did I never see this comparison! That makes complete sense as to way they funded schools but then didn't proiritize food or health for the people in the district. They were really just using them for their resources. Thank you for sharing!
OMG I've been reading this fanfiction too and loving every second of it. Hands down the best fanfic I've ever read. Please break down Throwing Sparks, which is of course Peeta's POV of the best book.
Kat was clear from day one that she was there to survive or help someone else to. She was never interested in romance and there was no love triangle. Peeta just hung on long enough where she loved him as family and then something else
& I think that's something that I loved so much, is that Katniss wasn't sure of her love for Peeta until she realized she'd already cared about him for so long. She was never good at understanding her heart.

I haven’t finished this one because I felt that it wasn’t the Peeta I imagined from the books BUT there is one series written in Peeta’s POV that I really like by peetapov on Archive of Our Own! The first book is called “The Boy with the Bread”

Omg I have never seen your videos before but this came recommended to me at the perfect time! I literally just finished the first Peeta’s games fanfic yesterday! It’s so good! I really loved the added stuff like with the district 4 tribute Bet, who we heard nothing about in the book and his unstable reliance with her, how peeta stopped Cato killing the district 3 boy and planted the idea of the boy helping them with the mines to keep him alive longer. Also seeing peeta go to the district 8 tribute by the fire and just sitting with her until she died when he said he’ll finish her off… he’s just my favourite character and this fic portrays him so well. I also like how even though he’s in love with Katniss and does think about her a lot, that’s not all he’s obsessed with. He has his own separate things going on and even has moments of doubt at points thinking ‘she’s a stranger to me, I don’t actually know her at all and should I be doing all this for her?’ Especially when thinking about the horrible things with the careers and if it’s worth it. I think it’s interesting showing how scared he is of creatures and muttations, that it haunts his trackerjacjer induced hallucinations. It’s foreshadowing to how they use tracker jacker venom on him later so he views Katniss as a mutt and is terrified of her. I also like how in his dreams he seems to be scared of Katniss as well? Like he gets these unsettling dreams and images of her and even feels unsettled while brushing her hair, which I think will be the type of thoughts that will get played up in mockingjay. ALSO! His reaction to losing a part of his leg? We see Katniss react to it and he seems unbothered and we move on, but seeing peeta panic to the point Haymitch has to calm him down and Peeta struggling with the idea of it and how he can’t do stuff like wrestling anymore and really struggling to get used to walking in it. Especially since the movie cut this out completely I just like we get to see more about his disability and how he struggles with it, because it’s rare in these types of things to get a disabled main character. I have only read the first 2 chapters of growing sparks and I adore their portrayal of Peeta’s trauma and how that comes out, especially since people wouldn’t normally go for that because they see him as just nice but I love it coming out as resentment and numb, especially towards his family and how alone he feels. I hope you do videos like these for when you are finished the other fanfics of his pov for each book because I love seeing other people’s opinions! I’ve only started his pov of catching fire but in both dreading and looking forward to mockingjay because being in his mind while all that is happening… will be heartbreaking.

@@bookishcap I adore Peeta he’s such a great character even after going through what he went through in the Capitol getting brainwashed into thinking that Katniss is a Mutt kind of reminds me of how in the Tiktok series It takes 2 when Mia constantly gets brainwashed and then John (her husband) has to help her return back to him kinda like when Katniss lost Peeta for a while

I read it a few weeks ago too and while I liked a lot of bits of it, it wasn't my Peeta. There are just some scenes that don't ring true with me. A fanfiction I really really love is "Pregnant Katniss Everdeen" and the follow-up stuff (but it's not completed yet). The characterisation there I just adore.

This is totally something that I want to highlight this is my next review, because although it was incredibly written & paid attention to every details, it did taint some of his charisma, character & beliefs. At least to me, I imagined him a little differently. I absolutely LOVED Peeta in the Hunger Games, but in his POV I would say there are some inconsistencies with his character. I have not heard of that one, who wrote that one? I can't find it, is it on AO3?
@@bookishcap Yes, exactly. There are some inconsistencies and I also think that he's "too good" and therefor not believable as a character in the fanfiction. In the books, he was a round character, with flaws and strengths and he felt more like a real person. You haven't read the "After the Games"-FF yet, right? I thought it was interesting, but also not my Katniss and not my Peeta. Pregnant Katniss Everdeen is also on ArchiveOfOurOwn and the fanfiction is by goldenslumber. I stumpled upon it after reading another fanfiction in which Peetas comment about Katniss' "pregnancy" was correct, but I wasn't that invested in the characters. I loved this one. It's truly having some original thoughts.
I know that AO3 & Wattpad are very different, Wattpad is more commercialized and has different tagging and users, but I used Wattpad as a comparison since a lot of people recognize that website when referring to published fanfics. 😊

It's kinda long, some of it should've been cut imo. But they're some parts that hit me hard. So I personally had to finish it to complete my own experience. Spoiler Kinda, You'll get some closure with some characters whether good or bad

Absolutely loved igsy’s fanfic series. You can see her writing grow with Peeta’s journey too, I ended up in tears by the last chapter.

So yeah read it if some parts are slow speed read or skip, I read super fast so if I get bored u have to focus on my speed reading.
