I think Shinri hates these mascot characters so much because how you can tell that they're designed to be marketable rather than designed to be actual characters. He also directly mentions how he hates how the movie execs treat it as if you should like the mascots, amd I think most people are contrarian such thst if they're told to do something they won't want to do it any more, which also influences his and our disdain for these obvious marketing tools
Not often we see Shinri go off on a full rant about something. But I get it and fully on his side. Haven't been watching the boys in a while, appreciate the clips
the minions in the first movie (I can't even remember the original movie name because of how the minions have tainted it) was fine, they were just side characters. but everything after that should not have existed.
The last straw for me is knowing that Wish axed an entire character with an interesting premise for the sake of having a cute, marketable plushie. Star Boy was done so dirty.
Now I want to see Shinri watch The Emoji Movie lmao But for real, what he said about mascots characters in movies is on point, nail on head. It's why now whenever I get a whiff of a mascot character like that in the marketing for a movie, I know immediately that I won't like it. Minions being the perfect example of that, but there are soo many more in modern animated movies.
Olaf even ruins the pacing in kingdom hearts 3 where you have to find his stupid body and he literally does nothing to further the plot, just like in the actual movie
Frozen itself is just a bad world because Disney interfered with Square's development process. Of course, the movie wasn't well-written anyway, but without Olaf it at least becomes bearable...
@@shinigamimiroku3723 hearing the unused songs in the Frozen OST just pissed me off so much. The original plot/sibling conflict was so much better and more believable, but then Disney focus-grouped the hell out of the movie and ended up with this incoherent mess plus Olaf.
@@geneMagit ain’t a mess? it’s a very easy to understand movie and while Olaf isn’t my favorite character, he’s okay and I think cutting him from the movie isn’t the solution people think it is.
@@Assasin2 the plot is easy to understand sure, it was a result of the focus group. But they wrote off a lot of character motivations didn't really line up, messing up a lot of dynamics. The prophecy about the curse and the frozen queen at the start of the movie was meant to play a heavier part in the story, but it was only acknowledged twice. First was the chanting at the start of the movie, and when Anna (or Elsa? that second near-death moment of the movie,) randomly brings it up at the end. They tried to course correct by focusing more on it in the sequel, but it still felt like an afterthought. There's also the sibling rivalry between Elsa and Anna. In the movie, the whole dynamic was Elsa pushing Anna away, and Anna who kept on chasing after Elsa like a puppy. Anna was so naive/selfish that she never considered that other people have their own problems/motivations. She never considered Elsa's emotions. If you listened to "Life's Too Short", that would've been a good confrontational moment between the two. The anger, airing out their frustrations, their misunderstandings, an actual sibling fight. This is a vital part of conflict resolution, something that's required for their emotional growth. Instead we got Anna's unconditional love that saved the day without having to resolve their issues at all. A stripped down version of the shounen protagist's "power of friendship" and without the dialogue between the two that's required to make it work. If they went with a slighty sadder/darker route, Olaf's presence would've been more useful. Not just for comic relief, but an emotional crutch to keep Anna from going too far down; Olaf was created by Elsa after all, so they could've used him as an emotional tether between the sisters. What we got was a bumbling snowman that was an adorable bumbling mascot that was just there for the kids, not really doing anything for the plot.
So right .... hahaha if a movie can't hold on it's own then it shouldn't be made with that side character just drop it 😂😂😂 .... hahaha have that main character sing / say the extra lines 😂😂 yeah.....let go hahaha let go 😂 good to talk about it 👏👏👏🧡
I don't hate Olaf as much as Shinri, but now I understand why the movie mascots nowadays don't leave a deep impression on me compared to the old movies. Mascots nowadays feel so separate from the entire movie. Like putting a sticker on a photo. And yes, I agree that the Minions are incredibly annoying.
even though he's not a movie mascot, i have grown to despise claptrap from the boderlands games (especially in 2 and beyond). he's a case where the developers failed to make him sympathetic so hard and it's all because they intentionally made him annoying just because he's annoying on purpose doesn't excuse the fact that he's annoying
Surprised no one told shinri that the old guy who plays Professor Xavier in the X-men movies (I forgot his name) actually wanted to play the poo emoji in the emoji movie.
Characters who add absolutely nothing except to be forcibly marketable are pretty annoying, and for as much crap as the Cars movies get, he's not wrong about Lightning McQueen (granted, Mater seems more like the mascot in those films, but even then, he at least plays a pretty significant role). In a similar vein, I can't say I'm very fond of child characters in kids' media who are VERY obviously there just to act as a target audience surrogate and nothing else. The Detective Boys in Detective Conan are probably the most egregious example off the top of my head.

Thank GOD someone clipped this xD he's been getting so much more comfortable being sassy with chat and I'm so here for it!
Shinri is speaking the truth with this rant
And we need him to understand that this rant is universally agreed that forced marketable mascot is trash
This was shinri's best zatsudan yet especially with the ranting about grocery shopping apps and bad in store WiFi
You know what? He makes a good argument. But dang, I never seen him so heated about side characters. 😂
Not side characters but rather mascot characters that are shoved in everything for no reason other than here mascot.
Fun fact if you remove Olaf from Frozen the movie becomes 100% more interesting and enjoyable.
Yea with Olaf it goes full ADD or ADHD real fast
Feels so weird hearing Shinri going off on something this passionately. I swear this is something Vesper would go on about.
Oh, this is 100% a Vesper rant. 😂
He's 100% capable of more passionate rants, he's just debuffed by fatigue and insomnia 😂
Vesper would go into graphic detail about exactly what he would do to their goofy faces if he got his hands on them. 🖤/💚 Lol
I completely agree with him. Especially with minions. And minion related memes are the bane of my existence.

Ayo, the most patient man in holostar hating something is a new feat

I've never heard the word "hate" come out so much from this guy😂
Watching this rant in real time was quite the experience. Never have I felt so represented about my hatred about mascots
3:30 calm down Kendrick xdd
That's why Shinri loves Puniko. Because Puniko knows his place. (and is far cuter)
Shinri: I hate Mascots
Freddy: "Trigger noises"
2:24
How can a man be so salty yet so correct?
Isn't Mater like the mascot of Cars, and he even got a whole movie to himself that bombed so hard?
It was so funny Shinri went off on a full rant mode about movies in this stream. But credit to him he was kinda really based on his takes XD
Shinri spitting facts 👑👑
It's so funny to see Shinri actually go off about something, because it's so rare, from what I've seen! 😂
So right .... hahaha if a movie can't hold on it's own then it shouldn't be made with that side character just drop it 😂😂😂 .... hahaha have that main character sing / say the extra lines 😂😂 yeah.....let go hahaha let go 😂 good to talk about it 👏👏👏🧡
another amazing mascot is Sanic the Edgedog
He yapping and he's got a point
I can't believe there's a good point to be made about Cars....CARS! lol
the most ive seen him heated

Why do I feel like Shinri is about to pull a Kendrick on Olaf? 3:29
I'm going to assume he absolutely hates the minions.
he did mention it yes he doesn't like them. didn't go on a full on rant specially for them but yes he doesn't like them
OMG I feel the same LMAO
We need more Shinri rants!!!
even though he's not a movie mascot, i have grown to despise claptrap from the boderlands games (especially in 2 and beyond).
he's a case where the developers failed to make him sympathetic so hard and it's all because they intentionally made him annoying
just because he's annoying on purpose doesn't excuse the fact that he's annoying
I hate movie mascots as well!! but give me a cute mascot for a train station or a brand of apples and i cant get enough!!!
This was so satisfying to listen to
Because it’s the truth
I understand. Same goes to certain gacha games mascot🙂
I lowkey felt bad for commenting that because it kinda felt like my comment started the rant, but I enjoyed the ranting a lot, haha
Relatable
Based
I had a feeling he doesn't like scrat as well
Just like cinemasins lol
What is the mascot for Encanto then?
Tries to go around saying specifics...
...
Man i fucking hate olaf
Surprised no one told shinri that the old guy who plays Professor Xavier in the X-men movies (I forgot his name) actually wanted to play the poo emoji in the emoji movie.
Sir Patrick Stewart? Yep, he actually voiced the emoji. He was also Picard in Star Trek.

Perhaps he just hates children..? lmao
