    Comparing uncorrected "before" footage to color-corrected "after" footage isn't a fair comparison. The colors are so far off that it's hard to focus on just the quality of light. I'd like to see the before and after with the silk as the only change.

      Yes as it is the comparison is pointless.... Or almost insulting for pros and enthusiaste.. just as goog as a tv shopping cheesy spot.

      Exactly such a stupid and misleading comparison. It's almost as if he wants people to buy that product instead of DIY.

    Thank you Tom! Very informative. I would love to see raw comparison between the before and after as you can imagine how misleading it is with having a beautifully graded image vs the raw footage. Thanks again for taking the time to make very useful and informative videos for the indi filmmaking community!

    HELP!!! I'm currently looking for a camera so that I can start getting into videography. I'll be filming cars for most of the videos in a wide range of lighting conditions and locations and need a camera that will accommodate substantial amounts of wide open scenery as well as one that will do up close detailed clips. Most importantly it needs to be able to take good dynamic shots of cars driving and one that can get good slo motion shots. Any advice? Should I get a DSLR or camcorder? I'm currently looking at the GH4, A7S, and 60D. Are these good choices for my needs?

    Interesting comparison. I can see where the professional model is definitely more sturdy and a little easier to work with, but the DIY frame gives very similar results, you just have to work a little harder to get them. So I guess it boils down to if you have more time or more money, as to which would be the best route to go. Great video Tom!

    This is a silly question I am sure, but I am a photographer who typically does not use diffusion...What are the grip "ears" called you have attached that allows you to swivel the diffusion panel like that? I notice them by the 10 second mark in the video, they are silver.

  • @markharris5771

    I used to think Lastolite were a rip off company, but their Skylite system is about a third of the price, a 5’x7’ pop up reflector is a tenth of the Lastolite price. A roll of diffusion material is about a fifth of the price of Lastolite.

  • @Andrelas11
    @Andrelas11 6 лет назад +3

    People seriously dont understand the professional world. The usual $699 price tag of this item is actually pretty good. Yeah you could make one yourself that looks halfway decent IF you get the nice expensive materials and already have the tools around to do it. And even then, its still will look fairly homemade. If you plan do be a professional and not always remain an amateur then you have to realize that pro gear cost big money. Start buying things a little at a time. Get better gear and you will start to get better work and have a better name.

    • @DMAbCD
      @DMAbCD 6 лет назад +1

      It depends on how you build a homemade item.You don't have to spend a hole ton of money to be a professional.

    • @Andrelas11
      @Andrelas11 6 лет назад

      I think the point is that by the time you make a home made item that works and looks sharp enough to use professionally, you typically have already enough invested to just purchase one. Simply having things work the way they should is worth the money because time is money and using actual gear over homemade gear saves you time. I'm not saying your budget dictates how professional you are. But some comments here are surprising. Yes, this is an expensive industry, and if you want the stuff that makes your footage look better you have to work for it. Now homemade stuff works great for a while when your learning or making your own backyard films.

    Your color grade in the "after" shots is kinda over the top, don't you think?. Super heavy skin blur like that went out completely out fo style in 1991, just so you know... It also makes it impossible to see the true texture of light through the the particular diffusion.

    699??? Seriosly?? Its way too expensive, nothing can justify this price... unless they ship also 2 Cstands with it...

    • @Tomasz_Piekarski
      @Tomasz_Piekarski 8 лет назад

      For that price you can easily buy even ALU-pipes (fx. the ones used in tents) that can be joined without banding as PVC and instead of old curtain, a decent quality diffusor cloth. I am sure I could do it for less than 100 bucks and within a budget of 699 I could do 10 of these. That price is simply ridiculous!

    For the price of 699 it's not a digital juice but digital jews! Who on earth would pay the price that you can spend on buying a really decent lens for that price. I will do a better version using aluminum pipes and better fabric. Pretty sure I won't exceed the budget of 69.99 and not 699.

    • @Andrelas11
      @Andrelas11 6 лет назад +4

      BEERCOASTERSpl Buying a good lens will never fix poor lighting. An iphone can shoot better content with proper lighting than any pro lens without it. $699 is a steal for this type of skrim. I just bought mine for cyber Monday at $350 and it felt like robbery. Doing DIY on these pieces of gear is time consuming and spending money on the right materials and tools to get quality homemade gear would end up being close to the buy price anyway. Professionals would absolutely spend $700-$900 on one of these.

    Unsubscribed. Dishonest video. The diy frame can be as large and packed into as small a bag as the expensive one. I'm sure you know it.
    And of course that misleading before and after footage.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos 4 года назад +1

      ? I am the one who built the DIY frame so I know how big it is when it's folded when compared to the digital juice frame. Also I say in the video thst both will work but one is more sturdy and faster to pack up that is why you are paying more for it. The DIY frame also works but it's very flexible so when I use it outside in the wind it's not as good as the DJ version. In the end who cares what you like. Get the one you prefer. I don't care. How am I being dishonest I completely don't get.
