Gee l never realised but Steve is actually the backbone of the humor and steucture of the show. He puts Ricky and Karl in the spotlight, without him it would turn flat. Steve is the technician of thought.
@@juliuscaesar6793 yea. even though these are years old, I feel privileged to be a part of crowd, “Pilkoids”, who were there for the birth & evolution of Karl Pilkington!!

Have listened to these shows pretty much every night going to sleep since me and my ex split. Nearly a year now. A seriously great antidote to the blues! Occasionally I'll even wake up laughing...x
People making judgements on Steve's character and personality based on a tinpot radio show recorded 15 years ago will never not make me laugh. People here talk about him as if they know him! Mental. Funny guy and integral part of the show IMO
I always liked him in the podcast more than Ricky, cause he was always more interested in hearing Karl's full thoughts on something whether he thought they were rubbish or not. Ricky loves interrupting.
38:27 this whole scenario where they can't figure out the call-ins and trying to act all professional and they get a glitch call always makes me laugh 🤣
I’m a MASSIVE fan of Ricky and Karl but there is some truth to that. Steve is soooo quick witted and comes out with some gold. I’d love to see a compilation of his best bits.
Anyone else love it when Ricky’s in a funny mood? Talking in that weird voice out of the side of his mouth, e.g. ‘nearly said WANKER!’ I could seriously listen to it for hours. Wish the mood had struck him more
Ricky's anecdote about what he said to the fireman is so relatable. There's always one moment in your life you think about years later like 'why did I say that'
This is obviously the episode where they started to realise Karl’s natural comedy potential. It’s great gradually listening to the evolution of him becoming pretty much the star of the show.
@@ufoash1066 Sorry mate wish I could remember! There were a few recent ones on Spotify that I listened to which were made around the time he was promoting Sick Of It Series 2.
I like this episode cause it was before it sort of got out of hand with Steve and Ricky mocking and ridiculing Karl. He actually seems to be enjoying himself here. Even though grumpy Karl is funny, I'd much rather want him happy, chucklin' about
johgus96 agree 100000% mate. Sad fact is Ricky is funny but a hugely pretentious twat and also a huge cock to all his friends. Sad how neither of them ever properly told Karl he's actually a comedic genius. His wit is great, but they always just act like he doesn't know what he's doing. Plus, like you say, the episodes where they just get pretentious and mock him relentlessly aren't as funny. Hearing him laugh is such gold. By the time it gets to the podcast series he literally laughs under 5 times the entire time
@@StrangeStickMovies Yeah they do mock him senselessly, but Ricky has said many times about how much of a genius Karl is, and references about how he talks about Karl's genius off-air too.
You sort of gets desensitized, but I just realised how funny and brutally honest it is when Steve says, "please, don't be mental!" to the people calling in.
I love how nice they were to Karl at the beginning, before the resentment developed that he wanted a bigger role and they started bullying him. In these episodes he's the most interesting man Ricky has ever known.. only a few years later he'd be called the stupidest and laziest. In a way you end up feeling sorry for Karl... because he had odd parents and missed a lot of school and didn't get a chance to go further with education his general knowledge isn't great and he doesn't sound clever... but he does actually have logic sometimes that the other 2 don't!
He wouldn't be where he is now if he'd just had normal parents and schooling though, would he? I wouldn't call him stupid though. I think Ricky said it once, something like he has very sort of nebulous out there thoughts. Now he's got the money to, if he wants, live his dream of just pottering about doing diy at home, lol.
If you listen carefully Karl laughs quite a lot in the 1st series. It's before they really started meanly ripping on him. My favourite series out of all their work.
I Love these vide beyond words. I wish Ricky wouldnt shout so much, I have to keep changing the volume up and down, his laugh and shouting could smash the windows, Jeeeesus.
The only time he had laughed during his career on radio and TV has been XFM Season 1, that one joke when Ricky says "get wrecked" on one of the audiobooks, Season 2 and a few times on 3 of An Idiot Abroad and quite a bit of the moaning of life.
I love when Steve explains to a clueless Ricky how physically the proportions of Barbie could not be replicated on a real woman, he is suddenly all “well of course they couldn’t” to save face lol anyone who knew that would have understood where Karl was going with that question. Although tbh I prefer Karl’s description of the answer 😂 if Ricky had just heard that instead he would have continued cluelessly shouting at him *what are you talking about!*
Ricky likes to think he’s smarter than he actually is if he allowed Karl to finish he would of understood even without Steve explaining I knew where Karl was going
Do you reckon they played the full version of Living For the City in this episode? In a later Song With a Story, Karl said he'd never heard the full version!
Owen they definitely did not play the full song. Sounds to me like they just faded it out somewhere in the middle, doesn't sound like the tracks actual end.
