    Know what? There's this song... Goes like this:- 'Love is where you find it, don't be blind, it's all around you - everywhere.' The same goes for survival. 'Survival's where you find it, don't be blind, it's all around you - everywhere.' It's not just in the forest or the mountains or the desert or the sea or the arctic circle. Or even in the streets of the urban jungle. It's all around us - everywhere.

    👍 Always like to see survival kits videos 😎
    It's important to check your self made kit sporadically.
    Just checked one of my kits and my BlastMatch was totally useless as it had corroded and the return spring no longer functioned. (I also have other fire starters in my kit)
    Also the water purification tablets were expired as well as
    Tylenol and Advil tablets.
    Gee no Rambo Knife with compass and sutures.🤨
    But Air Force Survival Knife (pilots Knife) will do.

    If I did anything to augment or tweak this kit. And it is a very nice kit. In the fishing box, I would add two or three more razor blades, because I think they don’t take up that much space and I don’t think they would keep the lid from closing. I would also add some Ranger bands around that tin because they don’t take up any extra space to speak of but they serve a really good purpose as tender they can always burn even when wet… As well as having other purposes. I think within that Ziploc bag there is plenty of space for some cordage of your choice. I believe you probably could get an entire roll of bank line in there or at least a small role… And of course you want to get the Compass that’s missing. I would also throw in an old credit card with some duct tape wrapped around it, maybe 20 or 30 feet. And a bic lighter with The button taped where it couldn’t be pressed without removing the tape. Also a little glass bottle of water purification tabs would be key to go with that water bottle.
    None of these things that I’ve talked about would cause those bags not to fit in your pockets. I even believe you could probably throw in a couple of other things like a tube of lip balm which is great not only for lips but as a fuel for fire starting. And after I waited assuming it hadn’t gotten out of hand I would probably include a falkniven DC-4 sharpening stone to keep my knife sharp.
    Again so small and light just hard to pass up on.
    I would say if you’re going to have a Compass in there you should also throw in a set of Ranger beads to go with it because they’re light and don’t take up a lot of space either. Probably a lot of these other small items could go in a second tin just to organize them.

    Good kit, you feel like that could look after you in a serious situation and you could get through it and survive to reach somewhere safe/helpful. No compass, that's a real boo boo and thankfully nobody ever had to open that pack to find they did not have one! With regard to a solid compass to get you through anything there's only one I wouls trust. Nato Survival / Escape Button Compass by Francis Barker, they have a Niva tipped brass pivot for low friction and accurate headings over the wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +55°C. Also often sewn into clothes by SAS/special forces to prevent its loss and to ensure a compass was always available. Most British armed forces who have completed survival training will know about these, they are not cheap and hence I can see why people go with the other options on the market. However, when you need to rely upon this for your survival and your life hangs in the balance.....

    The finger saw is pretty much useless. It will cut very small twigs and will wear out really quick. The water bag is the same one used on fighter planes for urinating while in flight. The label is different though. It is called a "piddle pack". When I got captured the first thing they took from us was our boots and any survival stuff we had. I guess they thought we wouldn't try to get away.

    • @ancientixl
      @ancientixl 2 года назад

      If you do your homework you will find that crappy finger ring saw isn't. That is the same saw that NASA utilized for cutting the ceramic tiles for the space shuttle. It is by any measure the best saw on the market. That same company that makes this saw also makes the finest medical saws and saws for other applications and is the same saw Chuck Yeager used to cut the ring of his pressure suit off while being rather seriously burned. You obviously posted your comments not based on actual usage of these exact components.

    Inside the fishing survival kit I noticed a bit of rust on the cards and the instruction paper coming from the metal needles and hooks. That's not good. Meaning for long term that kit would become a hazard and unuseable. No fish is going to touch a rusted hook and the threading needles that could be used to stitch up a cut/bullet wound would give you an infection and kill you.

You can tell they have gone though a lot, but the quality is second to none! I have literally never used binoculars of that high standard quality as these and I am thinking of getting rid of the Nikons. I made the same experience with a lot things. Old original Ka-Bars, my original military boots which just wont wear and you can wear them for months and they won't stink! MRE's have a shelf life of what... 50 years?
