Hey there! What an amazing channel you have here! Very inspiring. Recently I already experimented with agar agar to make some bioplastics, but seeing the texture you received by using alginate wants me to try this out as well. Doing some research, I wondered whether you use alginate or sodium alginate?
Wow, wonderful work. Great documentation. This is really inspiring! Some advice for the sizing: give a few extra mm's around the toes because when you walk, your feet squish a little and need a bit of space left, right and front as they will not always land perfectly in the middle. Also, some type of supportive footbed (with a lower section around the heels and forefoot for example, and a slightly raised heel to add heeldrop) would be great.
hello there! Love your content so much! I was hoping to see you work with alginate for quite a while and im happy i finally get to see it! Im a textile designer working with alginate to create bio yarns and material for my masters dissertation project. I just wanted to ask about how long it took for these materials to dry, if alginate grew mold? I live in the UK where sunlight barely visits us, and so its hard to dry these materials. Thank you
I don't have much experience with alginate, but from what I can tell it's pretty awesome. I did this in the peak of summer in Portugal so one or two days was enough to dry (depending on the thickness of the layer). So far no mold!
@ That’s amazing! My fabric swatches grew mold pretty quickly, i will try dehydrating them in an oven, thank you so much for your reply! Hope to see more alginate content
so interesting! is it possible to do a similar thing with the potato starch bioplastic? In one of my courses at university we are doing studies about potato starch/bioplastic and your videos help so much!!

It's sodium alginate yes.
@@giestas aah thanks for the quick reply!

This is really great! (Both concept and presentation are wonderful.)... I do worry about the water solubility of the soles, though. 🥦👞
I know, I haven't had the courage to test them yet.
@@giestas Still, your work is so innovative (and interesting to watch). Thanks for responding.

Excellent like everything you do👏 Would you try to do a rigid bio plastic like with coffe clay?
Love this! What kind of tape is it?
Regular paper tape.
@ Thank you very much!! Going to try this and make flip flops.
Great idea! And wonderful as always 😉 Where do you get so much Agar-agar? 2 grams are very expensive here (France).
Same here in Portugal, a tiny packet is costly. I buy bigger quantities at a time so it comes out more reasonable.
@@giestas Thank you very much for your reply. I'll try to find. Feel free if you want to share tips where to buy at a good price :)

Maybe it can work, but I'm guessing it'd be difficult to deal with drying shrinkage?
👌👌👌
Is it durable and waterproofed
I haven't tested that yet...
@@giestas please make a video on that
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I mean, plastic slippers are technically vegan
But aren't eco-friendly 😅
