- Hurricane Ian strengthened late Tuesday as it continues on its path to Florida. The National Hurricane Center said life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic winds, and flooding is expected with Hurricane Ian in the Florida peninsula.

I feel terrible for the people of Punta Gorda. I went there several times after Hurricane Charlie and the damage was terrible and it took a very long time for them to repair everything, in fact, I remember a large hotel close to I-75 that was absolutely gutted by the storm that took years to be taken care of. Sending my best to everyone in the storm's path.

That's was only supposed to been a Cat 3 an less than 10 hrs, an no power, we had ourselves a Cat 5- 167 mph winds. I will pray when it comes ashore it will lose strength quickly. Praying for God's protection n his safety as you leave, please early. We had the eye for 20 minutes, we were 14 miles from Mexico Beach n on Eastside of Bay county florida. 🙏♥️🙏. Little town called Callaway. We are still rebuilding n still in driveway. Oct 10, 2022 will be 4yrs. 🙏🇺🇸🙏

I wasn't in Florida when Charlie hit but I hear stories about how bad it was. So you're saying this is bigger and slower than Charlie? I even was told they evacuated Tampa into central Florida and Cental Florida got pounded. I'm in central Florida.
Relax, people on the coast evacuate to Orlando.
Charlie took out 10,000 oak trees. It was small and fast. Came and went quick. Barley any water. These large slow storms just bring all the problems. Both in the immediate and the aftermath.

I think these talking heads don't see the real danger. IF this lands on Charlotte, it will have other effects since already the higher ground (east of charlotte), and rivers that feed into that charlotte area, will be pouring back all the water that has been drenching the eastern areas. IF the hurricane stalls out and dumps even more water in this area, which is low, you will have homes completely flooded. Oh, and let's not forget about the 5 PM high tide tomorrow?

@Streamliner If you have wide packing tape, I would at least make X patterns on all glass. Especially on the southern facing glass first. Hide in an interior room. i assume most Floridians do not have basements.

@Streamliner May perhaps break from large branches or mailboxes picked up by wind. Move any electronics or anything you don't want to get wet away from windows.

Good luck to you. Last night it looked like the storm was going to go right over me in Eastern Hillsborough County. I am so thankful that it shifted away from me but feel terrible about you all down there. I saw the damage that Charlie did to Punta Gorda and it broke my heart. I hate to think about you all getting hit again.

@@FrankCastle65 It hasn't stopped raining for the last three hours which means the outer part of this hurricane is already here in Florida. The only parts of Florida not experiencing rain right now are Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tallahassee and any other section in northern Florida.

I saw on CNN where their black reporter Ryan Young was going around with the police as they warned people to evacuate. Young's news crew in the van was all black and they were marking down the addresses and responses from the residents to the requests.
