    Best video on pads I've ever seen. So many manufacturers and retailers tell you the difference between pads, but don't tell you the benefits and limitations of each. You guys take a stand and are clear what you think is the best setup in most cases. You have other options for people to consider but don't come across as if they're all great -- just different. Any contour better than no contour. One piece felt top with fleece bottom highly recommended. No neoprene for thin skinned horses. Felt takes longer to dry out so if it's hot and humid or you're riding hard, maybe not the best for that day. Makes too much sense thank you!!

    I clicked on your video, only because I recently discovered how much of a difference a saddle pad makes in my ride and my horses comfort. I bought my roommate a Bayou West saddle pad for Christmas, but I tried it out for myself this past weekend. Wow, what a difference!

      I'd never heard of Bayou West saddle pads so I googled them. Looks like the company is out of business now.

    I really love the traditional saddle blanket but I want one that is contoured. Tricky to find one that is affordable ... I use a thin line blanket liner and it pokes out from underneath looking a little messy...

    Pad protects horse, thin blanket protects top of pad. I see so damn many over padded horses it drives me crazy! Wool is my go to, if kept clean it gathers a little horse hair and hair to hair creates almost zero friction.

  • @suehamblin9652

    You need to turn the music down guys. Also, you didn’t mention how to wash (clean) the pads. Naturally, horses get really sweaty in hot weather. It seems to me a removable liner would be good to take off and throw in the washer.

    Well, actually the contour is necessary because it’s felt, because the fibers are locked in pace. The woven 100% wool pads will stretch and flex to fit the horse, just like a mohair cinch. Contour is 100% necessary with some fabric type and horse combinations… but horses with lower wither and/or stretchable pads will conform without contour. Overall your points are 93% perfect though. Nice video. 🥰

    This made a lot of sense to me. What is the name/brand of the first pad you pulled off the rack, the one that's contoured and felt on top, fleece on the bottom?

    I do have a saddle thats two wide. Its the only one we have thats comfortable for my husband. He's got back/hip problems and has a gaited horse (Tennessee Walker) thats short backed. What can I do to keep him in the saddle but it make it more balanced for the horse? I simply can't afford another brand new saddle. (This one is brand new.) Pad is not contoured but is fleece lined.

      The saddle will sore the horse's back. You can't fix an ill fitting saddle with a pad.

    What s the difference between cut out or whither hole and what does each item specifically?

    • @southtexastack1338
      @southtexastack1338  3 года назад

      A cut out or wither hole are essentially the same thing. It is a space left open in the front of a pad for the withers to come through allowing the pad to sit down flatter on the horse's back. A "cut back" pad is a little different. It is a split and cut out in the front of the pad that remains open at the front for the withers to come up through.
