i’m in a dental assisting program right now, i’ve actually been thinking the same thing but honestly it’s up to you and what you like, X-Ray Technicians are usually in hospitals with a little less coming in yearly salary than Dental Hygenists. It’s up to what you like and if you’re comfortable making a little less with the same amount of school time.
I live in WA state and am currently in my second year of DH school. Prior to getting into hygiene school, I worked in the dental field for 10 years as a DA and front office. I think if you don’t have any prior experience, it’s a good idea to shadow a DH to see if it is a career field you can definitely see yourself working in. Hygiene school is quite expensive and requires so much dedication and grit, so you for sure want to be certain you are ready to commit. Also, every state has a different scope of practice for DH, although many may be similar. You can visit the ADHA’s website to see what the scope of practice is in your state and also to see what the annual salary is for hygienists in each state. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I’m taking my pre-reqs for DH currently, but I can only take one class at a time as I work full time. Once my husband is done with school I’ll be able to do the program full time. I do face fear because I’m 23 and I’ll be nearly 30 by the time I’m done. I’m also going to be tested for dyslexia soon which is very scary... I'm almost 27 and was in business for 3 years in my early 20's. Then I became a SAHM because my husband's career in the military required him to be gone more than 6 months of a year. My children were young at the time and in the area that we lived in childcare was very expensive. I took a few pre-reqs for DH but will now be taking more than 2 classes next spring. I'll be 30 by the time I'm done as well. It's ok! You got it. We got it.

Dang 59k the first year, is nice but wow it's crazy how state to state makes a huge difference. Here in MN I've seen a ton of dental hygienist jobs starting out at $40/hr that's $83.2k a year. The lowest starting pay I've seen thus far is $32hr which is $72.8k a yr and a dental assistants (which I'm in school for now) start between $23-27hr which is between $47-56k a yr, plus the job market has a 23% growth rate. I'm very excited to have started my journey in this great and growing field and thank you for your videos, it's much appreciated.

Hi boo! Thanks for the tip. Also, the double Student Loan payment you are making, make sure that the additional payment is going directly to the principle. If you are just making a double payment without letting the financial institution know to apply the extra payment to principle, they will apply some to interest- which is not helping you save money on interest.

Hopefully it's not too personal, but how much did you have in student loans when you left school? & Did you live on student loans during school at all? Or did you work during hygiene school? Thank you for the credit tips. Using them asap! I'm a few years out of DH school, moved across country to make my pay go from $28 to $40 per hour. My credit is around 300, I have an old car, an old 1952 rental house, and no assets lol. I'm going to send in those letters !

One thing I'm very appreciative of my dad for was he built my credit for me and he is still doing it for me. At 16 when I got into college, my dad took a credit card with my name and he has been using it. My credit score is great. I'm 20 now and my credit card is still being used by my dad and I don't intend to hold ownership of it just yet either.
Just a suggestion: 50% goes towards needs (example: mortgage, car note, utilities, food, gas), 30% savings and 401k-retirement, 20% FUN- TRAVEL, EATING OUT, HAIR -NAILS, CLOTHES. Hi! Thank you for being so open. I'm about to start hygiene school after all my prereqs.(: Thank you for sharing your earnings. I am wondering how many days a week you work in the office? And is it one or multiple offices you work for? (I heard lots of dentists only want a hygienist half the week which is why I ask that)
For those of you that want to go back to school, regardless of whether or not you have kids, major responsibilities such as taking care of sick parents or family members. No matter how old you are, what stage of life your in, going back to school will be a sacrifice no matter what. So stop getting tempted and just do it. The pros of going back to school will always out way the cons. Right now, im 20, live at home with my parents and in my 2nd semester of nursing school. Im hitting them books 24/7 and working part-time. No time for partying every weekend. But im going to be a Registered Nurse by 21 years old. 😌🙂 The way I look to think about it is, work hard so that you can choose what you want instead of settling for what you need. 😌😌

can you do a video explaining about how to get health insurances, maternity pay, and stuff like that as a RDH? I know that most RDH work part time jobs so there's no benefit on health care. Dang 59k the first year, is nice but wow it's crazy how state to state makes a huge difference. Here in MN I've seen a ton of dental hygienist jobs starting out at $40/hr that's $83.2k a year. The lowest starting pay I've seen thus far is $32hr which is $72.8k a yr and a dental assistants (which I'm in school for now) start between $23-27hr which is between $47-56k a yr, plus the job market has a 23% growth rate. I'm very excited to have started my journey in this great and growing field and thank you for your videos, it's much appreciated.

Hi boo! Thanks for the tip. Also, the double Student Loan payment you are making, make sure that the additional payment is going directly to the principle. If you are just making a double payment without letting the financial institution know to apply the extra payment to principle, they will apply some to interest- which is not helping you save money on interest.

Deanna ! 2 years minimum. You can just get your associates. You don’t NEED a bachelor’s, there’s not much of a difference from them anyways

Hopefully it's not too personal, but how much did you have in student loans when you left school? & Did you live on student loans during school at all? Or did you work during hygiene school? Did you have your own place or stay with your parents during school? The loans scare me a little every time I consider this career

I'm a few years out of DH school, moved across country to make my pay go from $28 to $40 per hour. My credit is around 300, I have an old car, an old 1952 rental house, and no assets lol. I'm going to send in those letters !
I’m glad she kept it real here. I’m in high school I have a passion for dentistry and I want to work as a hygienist but that moneyyyy.. is something I think about because this something I wanna do for kinda the rest of my life, when I get older I want to own my own business to.

One thing I'm very appreciative of my dad for was he built my credit for me and he is still doing it for me. At 16 when I got into college, my dad took a credit card with my name and he has been using it. My credit score is great. I'm 20 now and my credit card is still being used by my dad and I don't intend to hold ownership of it just yet either.
Just a suggestion: 50% goes towards needs (example: mortgage, car note, utilities, food, gas), 30% savings and 401k-retirement, 20% FUN- TRAVEL, EATING OUT, HAIR -NAILS, CLOTHES. I AM AGE 53-CAREER: HIGHER EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL FOR 26 YEARS. I have been BLESSED with wisdom to be financial savvy. And is it one or multiple offices you work for? (I heard lots of dentists only want a hygienist half the week which is why I ask that)

For those of you that want to go back to school, regardless of whether or not you have kids, major responsibilities such as taking care of sick parents or family members. No matter how old you are, what stage of life your in, going back to school will be a sacrifice no matter what. So stop getting tempted and just do it. The pros of going back to school will always out way the cons. Right now, im 20, live at home with my parents and in my 2nd semester of nursing school. Im hitting them books 24/7 and working part-time. No time for partying every weekend. But im going to be a Registered Nurse by 21 years old. 😌🙂 The way I look to think about it is, work hard so that you can choose what you want instead of settling for what you need. 😌😌

can you do a video explaining about how to get health insurances, maternity pay, and stuff like that as a RDH? I know that most RDH work part time jobs so there's no benefit on health care. And thank you for being so transparent in your videos about this field of work!! There's not much videos about RDH on youtube.
Hey Tajah, i live in london and i want to do dental hygiene and also therapy however after some research no one earns around 50k in their first year even after yeaaars of doing this job. I literally don’t feel motivated since people who live in America will get paid 2x as much as people in england for the same stress and work load

So, when you mail these letters in and ask why these things are on your credit, they automatically remove them because of the dispute letter? Or, do they have the option to ignore your dispute if there is a relevant reason to have the remarks remain?
