- This is an All Bosses video about the EarthBound Halloween Hack and its ending. One of the most popular romhacks of EarthBound made by Radiation aka Toby Fox in 2006.
This romhack is quite short but it has an interesting story. It's in another timeline which the chosen ones never returned after Giygas' fall. Varik, a bounty hunter, is chosen to find the source of a "monster" which caused such extreme things. That "monster" is Dr. Andonuts somehow. But he's already dead and his "mind" is being stored in a coffin which contains his metaphysical realm, his Magicant. Enjoy!

You can definitely feel the early 2000s edginess in this game…but it wasn’t a terrible start for toby fox. Also interesting that this is where megalovania came from.

"made in 2006." yeah it certainly comes across that way. Those were not good days. There are some interesting ideas and I'm glad toby improved but yeah it comes off as something someone made in highschool.

The Original was made in 2006. An update which is the version that most people know is from 2008.

I like this hack for the nostalgia but I feel like if someone remade the idea Ness and his friends never returned and made it less edgy with the new method of rom hacking earthbound it would be an amazing hack.
Also fixed the monologue at the end to sound a little bit less silly

Sadly that was what 2000s angst and edge can do. I figure there was a reason Toby disowned it. It is interesting to see some elements that eventually had a touchup and made it into Undertale in one form or another.
Still, I wonder what a 2024 remake would be like if this hack was not already remade, I mean besides toning down the swears, especially Andonauts.
Even Toby Fox himself would actually agree with you. He has outright come out and said himself that he regrets making this hack.
Interesting to see the origins of the most recognizable boss theme in Indie history, though.
