The reason this is such a perfect meme is because Animal Crossing and Doom couldn't possibly be more opposite of each other.

It's kind of like saying people who like classical music are inherently more intelligent; and trust me I've met some stupid classical music lovers.
People like it because they're so different. The fact something so unlikely being funny and charming is something to be desired. Not to mention, most people have a Doom, danger loving side and a peaceful Animal crossing side. People aren't binary :P so seeing them put together allows people to express more of themselves at once.
Not to mention Nintendo themselves actually confirmed their friendship. So if you want to take it up on intelligence, go and have a friendly chit chat to the people who make the consoles about how dumb they are 🤷♀️

I respect perhaps Animal Crossing just isn't your cup of tea- you're allowed an opinion. However just as I have shown respect to you, you should try showing some more respect for others' opinions as well. Personally, I find the freedom to create and design in a cutesy village charming. At the same time, I would also very much enjoy roundhouse kicking a hideous monster in the face. It's not a difficult concept really.
