No man is perfect and no man upholds righteousness. He was honest about how he didn't make the right decision and has to be disciplined through Grace but at least he is looking to grace and not self correction. The man isn't giving up in Christ because of a guilt, not choosing condemnation against himself but saying he know Christ can help him. I've had good days myself, ministering through His leading and some days weren't even great at all, we are all learning and all walking but we will not stop walking and eat the bread of sorrows, and Jesus will walk you through what it is that will change that or correct that in you, following His will, His way, at the end and beginning of every day, only God Almighty judges us correctly. And He says to love one another, He didn't say, love only the ones like you but, all, the sinner, and no sin is different but Gods mercy and grace can fix that.
