    Thank you for such a clear, instructive video - it took me less than ten minutes to change both modules following your guide. On re-boot, it took several minutes trying to make sense of its bigger memory, but eventually cottoned on....

    Thanks VERY much for this video. I had immediately found the DIMM slot on the bottom, and surmised (from the markings) that there was another one under the keyboard -- but your video saved me a lot of time and angst, figuring out how to safely remove the keyboard to get at that top slot!

    I just did this upgrade on mine. Works great, very easy. Looked like someone had been in under the keyboard previously, one of the screws was pretty stripped out, I did manage to get it out and replaced the RAM and found a replacement screw while I was at it.
    Machine runs a bit faster, and it'll be even better once I get the 256GB SSD installed.

    Good straight forward show and tell. I would suggest having a screw driver that has a magnetic tip, magnet on a stick and then a magnetic tray to hold screws, especially the ones that are different lengths. Good job.

(2 x 2GBs) I'm hoping the Intel GMA 3100 Mobile GPU will now be able to allocate more of the computer's RAM for video memory. BTW, the Dell Latitude 630 can take 8GBs of RAM if your are using the latest BIOS and running Windows 7 64bit.

    What variety of DDR memory will I need for my Dell Latitude D630?

    • @mirrorsystemx3851
      @mirrorsystemx3851 4 года назад

      It is ddr2. For the speed, mb best is the ddr2-800 (pc2-6400). For the brand, mb just it has to be for intel-mobos and cpus. Crucial, Hynix and Samsung seem pretty good ones, but if there are amd-only-oriented rams, would better not take them. aData and lenovo ones fcked me up once. For the quantity, it can handle at least three gigs (if the CPU and OS are 32-bit). If the CPU and OS are 64-bit, at least 4 gigs. Some people say that they have put more than 4, up to 6-8 gb can be handled, but this may need a bios update (mb A13-A17 or somethin) and specific ram, if not even a CPU. You can see these two sites:
      www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/latitude-d630# ;
      www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Latitude-D630-Laptop-Can-it-actually-handle-8GB-of-RAM/td-p/3576889

  • @ventilator98

    VERY Important very urgent question. If the max is 4gb lets say I made a mistake, and I put higher than 4gb in the thing. It would fry it rendering it a big hunk of garbage correct? What exactly would happen? So since its a 667MHz, what happens if I put something higher than that? I've never tried to do this, never put RAM in a computer, just took 4GB of RAM out of a broken computer last night, and I'm telling you this because it was with intention of putting it in this thing which only has 2GB what if I mess up? That would be an IRREVERSIBLE ERROR RIgHT? I am new to the Dell Latitude D620 but New to ever doing ANYTHING with RAM as well. I took 4GB out of an HP DV6 last night. Can that RAM go in, or is DELL RAM required? Is RAM RAM or is it by specific company? I don't know ANYTHING about RAM only I took some out of a computer last night.

    • @CTimmerman
      @CTimmerman 10 лет назад +1

      Unsupported RAM should not do anything. Your system might complain about unknown RAM and the unknown RAM won't be counted, but it shouldn't fry. Even plugging in slower RAM should result in the motherboard slowing down to match the slowest RAM.

    • @aaronroy5827
      @aaronroy5827 9 лет назад

      Nothing will happen, your'e computer will handle it fine. depending if its a Dell Latitude d630 that is.. all models of Latitude can handle 8gbs of ram new editions probably more around 12-16gbs of ram but at that point might as well get a desktop pc or gaming pc and get major ram.. its just more money. it wont entirely improve your'e performance but a new larger hardrive plus possibly new video card is in order. dont know what kinds Dell Latitude D630's take.. which is one I have btw.. maybe a new screen as well, lcd one that can handle quicker faster FPS.

    Please help
    I attempted to make an update to 4gb of RAM (from1gb) with the appropriate SODIMM type. After the installation, nothing happens. I can't even make it to BIOS and/or CMOS. There are no prompts. Nothing. Only two little flashing lights next to the power button. One light is a picture of a lock with the letter "A" inside and the other is a lock with an arrow facing down.
    After that, I uninstalled the new RAM and put the old back in. The same thing is now happening. I even tried with no RAM installed. The same thing is happening.
    Is there something I can do to fix this? (I'm using the Dell D620)

      Try plugging the keyboard back into the motherboard. I've forgotten myself a few times and sat there going"What's WRONG!". you do that before screwing the keyboard back into place.

    • @andyussery8495
      @andyussery8495 9 лет назад

      CAM YONGE I am having the same problem. I only put the RAM in on the back of the D620 first to see if it worked. I have two RAM thingys and tried them both. I am wondering if I have to put both in (one on the back, one under the keyboard) becasue they have to be "balanced? That is the only thing I can come up with....I have 2GB on teh back and 1GB under the keys.
      What did you finally come up with? The only other thing I can think of is I have incompatible RAM but the place I bought it is very reputable and competent. (I did not unplug the keyboard)
