- Got to spend a few minutes with Tommy before lunch. I just adore the fact that he's so down to earth and personal. I wasn't expecting much given that it was time for lunch. I just wanted to show that I had worked a part out that I had been struggling with during the last camp but he turned the tables on me. All in such a humble and personal way. Thanks again Tommy!
Tommy's listening and patiently waiting for 3.5 minutes, and smiling. What an amazing person and teacher.
Yeah he was able to point out so many things to me that I needed to fix. It's incredible he was able to hear me once and know exactly what was needed.
Thank you for this nice moment, thank you both and thanks also to the guy behind the camera.
Yeah I can't forget my friend Shane who offered to take the video! I was about to do it just to do it but he saw what was about to go down and offered to record it for me. Very very glad he did.
Tommy is easily one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Not just in the world at the present time. But of all time. 😊
I completely agree!! And his music inspires me more than anyone elses. The fact that he's willing and eager to help me out on these songs only makes me adore him more and more.
@Talk to the hat. I second that 😊
Il y a beaucoup de plus grands guitaristes de tout les temps !!! Et , trés certainement Tommy est l'un d'eux ! Longue vie à Tommy et à tous les plus grands guitaristes de tous les temps .....
He always comes across as a genuine, humble, patient, and truly caring person. To generously give and not expect anything back speaks volumes about him. To me, that’s even more important than being one of the best guitarists out there. I love his personality and guitar playing. I hope he is doing OK during these tough times.
I agree 100% and it's what keeps me coming back. I was a fan before I met him but after meeting him for the first time I became a super fan and wanted to know more and more about him and actually start learning his music. He really sparked a fire in me I didn't even know was there.
I don't know another more giving teacher than Tommy. Despite his greatness, he is humble. In my book, that is the sign of greatness.
Absolutely. He makes you feel like a friend or family member rather than just a fan. And when talking to you he focuses 100% on you and let's you know you're important to him in that moment. It's an amazing feeling and one I've had the privilege to experience a few times now.
When Tommy plays it always sounds as if he has more fingers than everyone else and as others have said, he is patient and generous with his time and knowledge. This is just another measure of a great musician...the willingness to share to those who wish to create beauty!
Yeah. He can pick up the cheapest guitar on the planet and make it sound good. He's amazing.
every position of TE's fingers on fretboard flows n moves smothly.. even on radical position...his fingers is so flexible but strong grip n grab all at once... TE have veen playing guitar for whole of his lifetime.. since kid up to now.. around ..more thsn 60 yrs plus inovation plus dicipline plus talents plus passion ...so hr reigns the guitar world.. CGP number one... 🙏🙏🙏😍
@@mrssriplo1 even the worst human sinner is precious in the sight of Jesus Christ (it will be wise to repent without delay as Time waits for none).
Cheapest guitar also makes so beautiful sounds in the hands of Tommy Emmanuel.
@@naturegreen7233 I'm already a believer. 👍❤
@@mrssriplo1 ✌️👍❤️.
You play so nice.
Also, It's so encouraging to see Tommy Emmanuel willingly imparting his knowledge to every people possible.
Everybody dies one day, but wise people will leave their knowledge for the remaining humans, while the not so wise people will be buried along with their knowledge and their knowledge will become nonexistent and a great loss for not contributing to the human race.
Such a fabulously calm patient teacher .
Yes absolutely! I'm forever greatful you him!
What an amazing guitarist - and human being. A credit to himself, his family, Australia. Bravo Mr Emmanuel.
He really sat there and listened to every little detail. Love the devotion! Seems like he could really help you out in such a short amount of time. Such a humble man, an inspiration to guitar players all over the world.
Yes and I learned even more than what he actually pointed out to me just by watching this video again and again. I love soaking in knowledge from him.
One of the things that I have always admired about Tommy is his humility. He is one of the greatest guitarists of all time but look how he treats this student. Keep it up Tommy! I’ve followed you since I listened to The Journey cd back when we both had dark hair. I have never been disappointed and never will.
Yeah he was so kind and always has been with me. I look forward to seeing him again in the future.
Very well played by you, hats off! I play this tune also (love it) but wouldn't have the guts to do it in front of Tommy Emmanuel. This must be an unforgettable moment in your life.
It was! Though I also got to play with him more recently on stage in front of about 300 people. Now that was truly an experience of a lifetime! That's here on my channel as well. So are a few other times.
He is one of my favorite Guitarists
Mine too 😁.
Mine too :) I have been on two concerts when he was visiting Poland, can't wait to go for another one!
@@mrssriplo1 I love the guy. Immensely skilled but, like all good Aussies, he's also incredibly humble and down to earth in every way. I live in Australia now and it's great to see him as an ambassador of positivity overseas.
And, most importantly, I think you did an excellent job on a not so easy song. I've been getting into a lot of classical and jazz/bossa nova, so it's fingerstyle mixed with lots of extended chords and inversions, and I can absolutely appreciate the hard work and effort you clearly put into it. Keep up the great work! 🥰🎸🙏
@@castelodomar846 thank you so much! ❤
I absolutely 100% agree
Tommy is the most down to earth entertainer I know. I'm grateful to have been able to chat with him live a few years ago.
Same! He's inspired me in more ways than he knows and the fact that he really seems to care makes it even better. He suprised me with a hug from behind on day one of this camp. That really felt good.
I love this man. He is not only an amazing guitar player, but also gentle, kind and funny. I've seen a couple of his shows and the way he interacts with the audience makes you feel he is genuinely happy to be on the stage and is happy that the audience is there. I have a huge soft spot for Tommy. Must be a great experience to learn from the man himself!
Tommy, a true gentleman. Not just Musically, in all facets!
100%!!
Most great musicians are also great human beings
Terrible taste in jeans though :)
@@neural9 😂😂😂 I honestly kinda like them and I think they fit his personality but I get how others might not.
Rob E, what are you doing here?))
I bet your jeans are much nicer.
You' ve done Tommy at this point. Good for you!
How modest and patient he is...the best guitarist in the world
Absolutely! He's always a real joy to be around whether I have a guitar in my hands or not.
Tommy is a musical master and very humble with it so inspiring to watch and listen thats as good as it gets
I completely agree! And to get to sit with him and get personal help from him is as potent as inspiration gets.
That is so cool, I can feel the excitement. He is hands down most accurate player on earth. True living legend.
Tommy, you're great with people.
Absolutely! I saw him again last night (video will be up soon) and he was even sweeter to me. Remembered my name and everything. Absolutely love him.
You are lucky to have such a master giving you instruction
I definitely feel lucky. He's incredibly kind and is willing to do this for anyone who is in love with playing guitar.
Great moment. It all about the details and passion you have when playing any instrument (including voice). Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
I could listen and watch him play for hours.
When Tommy plays , its so effortless and the guitar sounds very beautiful ❤️. Wonder what magic he has in his fingers😊. By the way, you are so lucky to get lessons from Tommy directly. This must be surely, one of the best moments of your life. Thanks for sharing this video. I enjoyed it. 😊
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 😊
Effort and experience will never lie the sound bro
No intimidation here! Brave lady! Thank you TE, you’re the best!❤️
Such a lovely man. Really investing in people.
Absolutely! I've heard him say that it's something he really loves to do.
Tommy is brilliant here! How I wish I could sit down with him like this for a lesson.
If you can make it to a camp it's a definite possibility. Start saving now and maybe I'll see you at the next one!
Sure a great man. Delicious stuff!
And a great lesson, between old friends. Very impressive!
Thanks 4 sharing.
Cheers
Thank you! ❤
Love the Superman profile pic btw. I've been obsessed with Superman since I was around 5 or 6.
Tommy is such humble and genuine soul. Much respect.
He truly is! ❤❤
I love that he is listening to her and not watching her. He is all about the sauce more than the recipe. Much love to TE
Tommy is a so gifted and kind. I was fortunate to go to one of his camps. He is genuinely nice human, this is not just for the cameras
Absolutely! Which camp did you go to if you don't mind me asking. This was my second. The other was his Maui camp.
Awesome 🤩 it shows the merits of the man. Happy to sit and listen then offer advice 🎸🌍
Absolutely! It's one of the things that draws me to him. No Ego whatsoever.
This Is real passion!!! Tommy Is an example for we all!!!!
1000%! He inspires me every day and any time I see him in person just multiplies that inspiration 100 times over.
I couldnt ever dare to play in front of Tommy . She did great and was very self assured
Thank you! I was definitely shaky as I was playing. This was the 3rd time playing for him but the first in a good while. Also it was a spur of the moment thing rather than something I could prepare for. As much as I messed up the song I'm still proud that I kept going with it at least.
What a lovely guy. Seen loads of vids where he is just so kind to fans. So nice to see.
He did far more than this. He gave me hugs when he saw me, let me record him saying hi to my dad who is really sick and can't work, and asked me how I was doing health wise because he remembered our first conversation in 2018 when I had been too sick to play for a couple years (I have Lyme disease). He's seriously the best.
What a kind gentleman. Listening with sincere interest while the young lady plays and among all of the noise from the room. Good job for her to play in front of the great TE. Very nice to see him really sharing and inspiring her.
Thank you! Yeah he's so amazing. I just wanted to show that I had figured the song out after struggling with it and asking about it in big group at the last camp but I didn't realize he'd want to help me out even more. I've learned more from this video than I think he realizes. Even watching his fingers on his right hand has helped. I'm looking forward to yet another time with him in the future, God willing of course.
"It's never too late" is probably my favourite TE song. The tune gives me hope.
I'm saving this video. Might help if I ever get to learning this. Thanks!
Thank you so much! And yeah! He definitely helped me!
One lucky student. The Maestro is so calm and patient. Awesome Maestro.
This is awesome! God Bless!
Thank you so much!
He is one of the best on the planet. Glad you got to perform for him.
Thank you ❤
Danke sehr.
I stricly believe greatness comes from the person itself. Are teachers gives us the tools and knowledge to carve are path. with that said i will always be indebted to my teacher
I love you Tommy. Your Issoudun, France gig in 1999 gave me the kick in the ass/ears i so deserved. After nearly 10 yrs Mia as a guitar player with no progression or inspiration to learn. You led me to Chet, to boom chic, CGP awards, Nashville's endless amazing ppl. Most important you made music magical again for me. Just like Windy and Warm did for you all those yrs ago.
I am forever in your debt, you are forever in my heart.
Thanks,
Tomi-Jon
He did the same for me in 2018. He's an inspiration to us all.
What an honor to have a lesson with Tommy!!
It was definitely an amazing experience!
Great job! As others have stated, I couldn't imagine playing in front of Tommy. I think the only thing I would be comfortable doing in front of him would be holding my guitar lol.
Thank you! I've met him enough times that it's starting to feel like playing for a friend rather than the legendary player that he is. If you're curious there are a few more videos with him on my channel.
@@mrssriplo1 Yep. I've watched them all. Great stuff :)
@@coryCuc Thank you 😊
Very attentive teacher
He really is!
What amazing playing (on both counts!) and what an experience it must have been. I'm not even sure I could have played a Em chord in front of Tommy.
Thanks! This was my 3rd time playing for him so it wasn't bad. I was still a bit nervous though. The first time I actually played Smokey Mountain Lullaby with him. You can find the video on my channel as well as one with me playing haba na haba for him with my friend Elias.
@@mrssriplo1 I have a lot of stage freight so I'd be a mess for sure! Your playing was great, and thanks to coming across this video I now havre a new challenge (Never Too Late). I really like that descending part that Tommy went over with you. I will check out the rest of the videos you mention now. Thanks for sharing this great experience! 🎸
@@SteveWoodard66 my pleasure! I've been playing on stage as a rhythm player for years... Might have helped in that area. I still get nervous playing anything complicated in front of people but I've learned ways of pushing through and playing anyway. It just takes some time and experience. You'll get there if you keep pushing yourself and play in front of others no matter how you sound. The more you do it the easier it gets.
One on one with Tommy !! That’s so cool 😎! Love the video 💕🙋🏻♂️✨
Thanks Arjay! Still waiting to see you with him one of these days!
Having Tommy Emmanuel showing you his ways of playing what a blessing!
Definitely! It was amazing! He's just the best!
Lovely playing, she's clearly very talented and has practiced a lot, and to play for Tommy must have been a real treat!!
It definitely was and is every single time. Just got up play for him again last week before his concert in Cincinnati.
This is why I love Tommy man he takes the time out of his busy day to teach and chillout with his fans its beautiful man
Most definitely! Love him! So glad I was brave enough to ask him in the first place as well. Definitely worth putting yourself out there if you ever get the chance.
He is totally feeling the musical energy :D What a blessing to share yourself with him and have him appreciate it
Thank you so much! It was awesome! I might have another opportunity on Thursday as well. I'll be seeing him in Cincinnati and I re-bought the meet and greet upgrade I had to have refunded as the pandemic was starting (I've had these tickets since early 2019). So glad it's finally happening and that I found out it was rescheduled so I didn't miss it. Anyway. I'll try to get a video if I do end up playing with him so keep an eye out.
Гениальный Tommy! Огромное вам спасибо за ваш Великий талант которым вы делитесь!!!👍🏻👏
Great lesson. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I wouldn’t be able to play with him watching! Well done indeed.
Thank you! It's not as hard as you might think. He makes you feel comfortable and doesn't judge.
when he played guitar in south korea about the song amazing grace I remembered his name that through the name of the expertise of Mr. Tommy all with God with him
Love me some Tommy Emmanuel. Great person, Great Player, Great Entertainer, Great Humanitarian. Hope to see him in concert in Pittsburgh in December. He was postponed in April. You know, Covid. What a precious memory for you. AND on video, WOW!
Thank you! I actually spent most of my life in Pittsburgh! I live in Kentucky now buy only for a little over a year and a half. I moved from Finleyville PA and from Bethel park before that. What area are you in?
@@mrssriplo1 Wilkins Township, near Monroeville.

He's the best. I'm forever greatful to him.
How generous. What class....
This was from his camp in Nashville. I also just uploaded a similar video from a meet and greet in Cincinnati a few days ago.
Going to see him tomorrow night at Rams head Annapolis Maryland. Can’t wait! Keep at it. You in a whole different league. You sound great.
@@ericmohler5609 Thank you so much! He's the reason I sound even remotely good lol. I was a pretty average player before I met him.
@@mrssriplo1 Just saw him last night. What a powerhouse! Gonna go back to the woodshed and start taking finger style seriously. :-)
@@ericmohler5609 I know what you mean! My friend Bunny was there may night too. She's good friends with Tommy and wrote her first song which she played for him last night. Really hoping she caught it all on video.
You are a talented player, and a brave soul performing before Tommy Emmanuel like that. What a legend this man is. I can imagine he is a wonderful teacher from how he just sat there taking in your performance, visibly enjoying the efforts you put in. And simply letting you play the whole way through before saying anything. And then very clearly explaining the details that can help you in playing it even better than you already are. Beautiful moment, thanks for sharing this.
My pleasure! I would encourage any and every player to play for him if given the chance. I don't care if you just started yesterday. You'll benefit greatly from it and the wisdom he'll give you.
@@mrssriplo1 if you don't mind me asking, how did this encounter come to be, was this some sort of workshop byTommy? Oh and what model Martin guitar is that?
@@documentalist-NL it was at his camp in Nashville last month. I'm already trying to save up for the next one which I was told should also be in Nashville. I have also been to his camp when he did it in Maui back in 2019. There's videos from that camp too.
There's a lot to learn here. Tommy could have pointed out all kinds of flaws, in terms of technique or rhythm. Instead he told you what he does and what the music is like. He's very inspirational in his teaching, not interventional. And the mere fact of giving you 3 minutes of listening time is beyond motivational.
just a couple of the legend playing some awesome things

Tommy is all class, in music and in humanity.
Absolutely
Master Tommy is someone magical... I am Mexican and I am very sorry not to be able to enjoy your music here in my country God bless you all and long live the music es vida y es lenguaje más universal que todos podemos hablar y entender
You are absolutely fearless and going to be a great guitar player ... big cheers!
Oh Thank you so much! I'm working on it lol. I still have a mountain to climb to get to where I'd like to be.
Just amazing the amount of work necessary to reach this level of guitar playing! Such an achievement! Evey little detail counts to gain a fraction of a second to place your fingers. Just great! I saw him in Marseille in 2018, just wonderful. My Martin is now pretty depressed...
Thanks!
in his career, he has probably listened to 10s of thousands of people trying to play, and for every one of them, it seems he gives them all the time to listen intently, correct, and encourage as if it was the first time. Very few with his celebrity would be that consistently kind.
Exactly! It's why I feel comfortable enough to play for him! He doesn't judge, just lovingly corrects, teaches and encourages.
What a wonderful human, Tommy is!!!
Absolutely! I look forward to seeing him again in the future!
Ohh i wish i can meet him in Person as well, my most favorite Guitarist of all time! Also you play really good! 🎸
Thank you! Hopefully you will someday! 😊
Great job! I really appreciate you posting this. It's very insightful, both in his personality and his technique. I like that he respects the amount of time that you put into getting the tune to that point. SO much dedication. One thing that stood out for me is his use of the palm mute on the picking hand to bring out the rhythmic aspect of the tune.
Right! It's harder for me to Palm mute the same way because of the size of my hands but it's something I've been trying to work on.
Thanks very much for sharing his lesson with us! Is a great groove & all-in-one skills instantly improve lesson for me!
My pleasure!
What a treasure. Thank you for sharing this interaction with us!

That was awesome and inspiring to see genuine & Real down to EARTH
Loved watching it.
Thank you so much! Yeah Tommy is so incredible. I didn't ask for a lesson, just to show him that I'd figured out the song after thinking it would be impossible the last time I saw him. Always! Never had a moment with him (or seen him on video) where I felt he was rude. He goes out of his way to make sure he's never rude.
Can't imagine playing one on one with Tommy! My hands would totally freeze...even after playing off and on for 50 yrs.
This was my 3rd time.. It gets a little easier each time. Plus I've chatted with him enough that he doesn't feel like a stranger or some rock star. More like a friend. That helps a lot.
What a fantastic human being he is.
He truly is. ❤❤ He deserves every bit of respect he gets and then some.
I was there. He truly is a wonderful person and committed to helping others improve their skills. What you are seeing in this video is 100% Tommy Emmanuel! I had a chance to go one on one with him and he must’ve spent 10 minutes showing me what I was asking about on his guitar. Up close and personal
Did you get a video? Also was this your first camp or had you been to others? This was my second. My first was in Maui. I got an actual mentor session with him there and got to play Smoky Mountain Lullaby with him. I also got the chance to play for him at a separate concert after that camp but still in Maui. All the videos are on my channel. I've learned so SO much from him since first meeting him in 2018 and I don't plan on stopping any time soon lol.
I had an mentor session with Richard Smith that ended up being 20 minutes lol. Billy had to open the door and remind us that class was starting lol! He was awesome to talk with and learn from too.
This is amazing, thanks for sharing. Tommy is amazing, seen him perform a couple of times and it's just like nothing else!
I know what you mean! I've never seen anyone quite like him. Seen and met plenty of fantastic players including finger pickers but none of them can command the stage or keep up with Tommy.
@@mrssriplo1 Watched videos of him playing with Joe Satriani and I think it's one of very few times I've seen Joe nervous! Tommy was happily smiling away and doing his thing. Just the ease that he seems to play with, and being a gent while doing it! :)

Tommy is awesome, Ive been playing learning his tunes for few years and they are never easy! But its so much fun learning and progressing. What was this song called, I forgot?
It's called It's Never Too Late.
Those jeans are the single most 'rockstar' thing I've seen the man wear... Jokes aside, this video is a great example of how humble he is and that he is a true muso at heart! Legend!!!

Fantastic effort. Not easy to play Tommy's tunes
Not easy at all lol. I'm slowly getting better but they definitely kick my butt most of the time. Learned lots of practice techniques and tips during camp that should help me out a lot, especially with my thumb independence. That's really where I need to work the most I think. I really get tripped up by that. But I haven't been playing this style for long. I'm mostly a rhythm player, or I was till the last couple years.
@@mrssriplo1 Sail on!
I’ve met Tommy a couple of times. The most memorable was at a guitar festival at Kirkmichael in Ayrshire organised by Martin Taylor. I met him in the local hotel which was full and we had a pint together. The previous evening the generator in the marquee had pegged out and the concert was nearly cancelled. Tommy and Richard Smith retired to the small stage at the far end of the marquee which still had power. Everybody crowded in and they put on a brilliant show. The next day I met him at the hotel. A kid there who had some kind of disability asked him to play his old Suzuki guitar and Tommy took it to a nearby bench and played for the next 45 minutes. The local crowd were in raptures and crowded round the bench. He’s a real people person, very accessible and not at all up himself. A true gent who loves what he does. Wish there were a lot more like him
Yes absolutely!! I've had several encounters with him between 2018 and just a couple weeks ago at camp (my second) and I could tell tons of stories about him. For me, he's been a kind of saving grace. When I first met him in 2018 I had been really really sick with Lyme disease and hadn't had the strength to play my guitar for a couple of years. He talked to me so sweetly and with wisdom and that night I made it my goal to learn at least one of his songs. It took time but I realized pretty quickly that playing guitar was speeding up my recovery. Every time since (especially at this camp) he asks me how I'm feeling and gives me plenty of hugs. On a related note, he lost his sister to Lyme 😞. The video of my first encounter is on my channel as well as my first time playing with him at the maui camp and for him with a friend at a concert in Hawaii after camp.
Yes I wanted to rewatch this properly so I could hear everything! You did so well to walk up and ask him, I want to play for him one day. Thanks for posting this, I’m having camp withdrawals too!
I'm already planning on doing more commissions to help pay for the next camp. Hit me up if you want me to draw anything for you or if you want to buy a print of one of the ones I drew of Tommy or something.
Also just remembered I'm wearing your merch in this video lol.
