This school of swordfighting is very beautiful, each movement has a purpose, there is no flourishing or nonsense, I understand why Musashi found in this "The Way"

Chris Bradford wrote a book series called 'The Young Samurai' that included the niten ichi-ryu school and this technique. It's honestly quite historically accurate (excluding some names etc) it's very engaging too so if you enjoyed this video you might want to check out that series.
I am currently working through this series as I jump back and forth with another series of books. They are a surprisingly good read even now that I am way past the original demographic age it was written for.
Beautiful style. I wish I could learn but the dojo is in Toronto and I'm in georgia. Shame there's not more schools in north america that study this stunning form
This school gives you an aura of confidence and power. I cant explain it. I dont seek conflict but people avoid fucking with me lately. The energy you radiate from training changes you. Even when walking without a sword. You still walk like there is a sword in your obi.
Need to clear this up from what I read in the book of five rings Musashi was against holding the sword with two hands is there a reason why the training is done with two hands? Not challenging the instructor or something I just want to know
He was against two handed swords like Odachis however because they (and any blade like them) were cumbersome right? In his eyes ofcourse because there are warriors who used Nodachis with ease
I cant seem to find an answer to this, but its either the case that when committing to memory his techniques, mushashi also included forms for using only a single weapon, or the style has been added to over the years by those who inherited the style. Pretty much all school i can find also teach single short sword and single long sword techniques.
Not quite. When you hold the sword with two hands it becomes fixed and un flexible to maneuver. While holding it with one hands makes it faster and gives more mobility. He advises using two long swords one in each hand for training. This will strengthen your tenouchi (grip) And with constant training you understand the way. But Musashi sensei . Was not against it. He himself used to hands to grip the sword. But to learn the way of the two swords you have to train with a sword in each hand.
I'm from Brazil, I saw that many dojos of the "koryu" arts, and also kendo and iaido, the vast majority of practitioners are of Japanese descent, but there are also European descendants. In Brazil there are many Afro descendants, but they are not They practice the "koryu" arts, and I have never seen a black person practicing kendo and iaido. In the USA it is also like that, if that is why?
"The way of the warrior is the resolute acceptance of death." -Myamoto Musashi Sensei. Not to mention buddhist death meditation in which you visualize yourself dying in many ways. The europeans called it memento mori. Remember death.
HNIR Toronto Kenjutsu Kai is the club that now teaches this style. I continued to practice and keep in contact with the soke, but covid regulations has put accepting new members on hold.
You should re-read Gorin no Sho by founding master Miyamoto Musashi and apply what he says, and use the techniques he described if you really want to represent his school! for the moment this is not the case.
just because you dont slash people with katanas IRL , doesn't mean the training is useless. you are actually training so you can be at ease in a real life/death situation.

its most efficient, true, the strikes are aimed for cutting combining spirit-sword-body movement, beautiful and lethal.
Elegance has a form.

I've studied niten for 12 years now. This is one the of the most beautiful videos i've ever seen of our martial art.
Where did you study it ?

Beautiful video! I don’t know how this doesn’t have more eyes on it. Incredibly cinematography and technique.
Sincerely, an Eishin-Ryu Iaido student.

The Art of Sword Style
Genuinely beautiful.
Such a beautiful style kinda made me tear.
I was watching Vagabond chapters and this showed up, Man am i happy ;D
pretty cool initial. That phrase was awesome
can we get a full length feature film? that fight sequence made my heart sing.
This is a very high quality video and fitting tribute to Miyamoto.
This video is a thing of beauty, thank you for making it.
I wish there close to this school. I have admired Miyamoto Musashi and Niten Ichi Ryu, unfortunately there are no school in the US.
Have studied NTIR a bit. Lovely video. Keep up the great work.
PHENOMENAL! What a film! Great job guys!
Thank you!
Amazing video. Very well made. More people should come to see this!

Never stray from the way. Beautiful video. Oss!
Based, very OP sword style.
What a shame I cannot attend. I’m in Arizona, far from Toronto

7:56 is that blood on the handle?
it happens sometimes
thats martial arts. Sometimes you get hit during intense fights.
Very good technique and the way you explain to your students seem very nice. Congrats

This is such a great video. And yet you get so less views whereas the rest of those jackasses keep getting millions. Smh smh
Its a thing for the few not the many. Consider your self lucky to have found the true way of the warrior.
My Sensei told me he does not and will not advertise for the dojo . This way only those who seek it will find it.
I also wanna learn it I dont know any schools in the Netherlands in Noord-Braband
You deserve more

Where is the school located? I’m an American jiujitsu blue belt in so cal, I’m very intrigued in the way.
I looked into it and this school lost it's Dojo and closed down two years ago

I totally agree. Until we're in life and death situation using live swords I think we are all larping.
