This is so incredibly timed! I'm currently in the stage of deciding whether or not to pursue an astrophysics degree. This is such a useful and insightful video and exactly what I needed to hear. Never stop!!!
Glad this video can help with your decision!
I was thinking of being an Astrophysicist but you made me realize that im only doing it to make myself believe that i can be like Rajesh😅
Who are interested in astonomy but dont like maths.

Pagal hai kya ?
Hey don’t be discouraged! Remember, he said Math was his weakness subject at the start of the video!
But I love maths
Thank you, i just got into a bsc in physics and started doubting if it was the right choice since my goal is to become an astrophysicist. These kind of videos from someone who's on that stage that i want to reach really motivate me and calm me down
Really glad the video helped!
Hi Lewis, I just found your channel, I am an older (52) returning student hoping to study physics. I've just started, haven't even taken calculus yet, but I am hooked on astronomy, I just can't get enough of it. Thank you for posting all this.
I wish I could find courage to do the same.
@@Litkeen dude what?? you dont even know if he has grandkids. why are you assuming these stuff? most people dont even retire in their 50s... hes not that old.. my mum is 54 and shes still working hard and shes thinking about going back to college! its NEVER too late.
dude im really proud of you, most people your age would think they're too old to go back to learning (which is not true, you're never too old to stop learning) i love astronomy too but im only 16! im very bad at math so i wish to be better at it, also thank u cause you just inspired me to keep learning and its never too late
Thank you @@oujikei
@@Litkeennever too old to start science
the 7:58 - 9:24 part is something i really needed to hear and i didn't even know it. just made me subscribe immediately to you man. thank you
I'll start college next year and this is pretty helpful. Thanks for the info and cool vid!
Thanks, much appreciated. Good luck with your degree next year!
I have been watching all of your videos, as well as being a new follower to your twitter acc. I hope you post more vlogs (like day in a life as a graduate of Astrophysics as it is actually comforting.
I am an Astronomy student in my country and I am glad to say that all of your videos inspire me to do well! :))
Thank you! Will do!
You're truly inspiring, I'd like you to upload more on RUclips, ofc its ur choice :)
I am currently in class 10 and i was wondering to learn about it but i have no Idea what I need for it, i am very very thankful to you
Thank you for the video.
No problem
Thanks for the great info! I am going for an Engineering degree which will involve a lot of physics so I’m sure this will be useful.
Thank you. Most of these skills and techniques can be applied to engineering I’m sure. Good luck with your degree!
Fantastic video, thanks bud.
Glad you enjoyed it
This video covers a lot of helpful stiff. Very informative!
Glad to hear it!
such a great informative video this was!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you
Master the Four Food Groups of Physics: Classical Mechanics (This leads into Field Theory.), Classical Electrodynamics (This leads into Optics, Plasma Physics, Relativity, etc.), Quantum Mechanics (This leads into Atomic Physics.) and Statistical Mechanics (This leads into collective phenomena: gasses, fluids, and condensed matter.).
And take an Electronics class.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I have been watching your videos and those are great! btw, could you please make a video about learning Astrophysics from START to FINISH? I know there are lots of lab works in this field so you could make a video according to learning from textbooks. again, thanks a lot for your videos.
Great suggestion!
Well I am an High school student but I have a dream if becoming an astrophysist So Thank uou for this video this helped me a lot in order to know what kind of books could help me and and how should an physics student be like. Thank you very very much
Thank you for this impactful video, I'm glad I came across it. Currently applying for my master's program and I need a guide writing my SOP. Could you be of help?
Hallo!
Danke!
The the US, there a few universities offering an astrophysics concentration at the bachelors level anyhow. But still a healthy amount. I found some and I am stoked. But in the US, Physics or Math mahors who cant find enough physics jobs can most certainly find finance or software jobs. Banks LOVE Math and physics majors since they have abstract reasoning, and logic akilla beyond what Business admin or Econ majors have.but to be fair,Econ gets much heavier in math at the grad level. L
Probability/Stat linear algebra, and more caluclus appear, to be sure.
And yes Python is a VERY VERY flexible language. Its super popular in Robotics and machine learning, but also statistics, mobile apps, websites, computational physics, and more. It is easier to read the code than C++. And I have heard everyone say it's the best langauge to starts folks on.
Thankyou for your video! wonder do you have any university recommendation in the UK for studying astrophysics or cosmology? thank you
Thank you for your sharing! I am a student who is pursuing a master’s degree in physics and want to get into the field of astrophysics, could you please recommend any RUclipsrs or online courses about introductory of astrophysics?
Thank you my friend..iam going to take Bsc Physics this year and it is my dream to become an Astronomer or an Astrophysicst..u helped me very much
Best of luck!
Me too..but applied in collages for bsc physics and then planned to take msc in astrophysics..
Such an inspiring video. I am not sure how to get started on learning python by myself. Could you suggest any ways I could do so or even how you did it yourself?
I didn't completely self-learn python so I can't offer any advice based on experience but I know websites like codecademy are great. Also there's plenty of tutorial videos/series to watch here on youtube!!
What jobs would this lead to? What do I actually do in this job? A lot of RUclipsrs and people I talk to just talk about space exploration and throw some basic space pictures up
I completed my bachelor degree in physics in India and I’m trying to do masters in astrophysics!
Hi is there any way I could contact u like mail or something I need some information regarding astrophysics
Im a highschool drop out due to extreme trauma and severe mental illness I wonder if there is still a chance for me to get into the fields ive always wanted to study...
Hi. Amazing video
I just want to ask I want to do astrophysics but I took bio and chem in grade 11 and 12 cause of parental pressure. Can I still do a UG course in astrophysics
Hello sir! Just wanted to know how you're doing because no videos for a long time
I love space
❤️❤️
Hey there! I’m a high school senior and I’m in the college application process (it’s very stressful and anxiety inducing. I’m not confident in my ability to to market myself) but it is my DREAM since childhood to be an Astrophysics Doctoral Researcher (professor or assistant researcher) sometime in the next 10 years.
If you have any advice for me in my time as a high school student please let me know! I’m currently looking into my local college for a research opportunity.
I watch lots and lots of videos about college, physics and mathematics, and of course, astronomy.
I’m also super bored by the current classes I’m taking in high school (AP classes always teach to the test and it is getting so boring and repitive, I don’t feel like I’m learning)
Do you have any tips for me in my college apps? Does it matter where I go to college, whether it’s a good state college or if it’s a selective out of state college with a good program? Please let me know if this is even the important question to ask.

Hey
I am at the moment 15 years old and I am from germany im looking forward to study something like Astrophysics cause I am facinated by it
But im concerened about wether i am smart enough or i am able to handle this as well as that my experience in physics and maths are not that good. Furthermore I dont like the way my Schoolsystem are teaching mathematics . I want to learn way more in general and im facinated by the thought of learning something new for example astro physics. But I dont know how to start because it feels like a Huge Mountain that im not able to climb because i am way to unexperienced and i dont find an other way up if you know what i mean. I try my best in ignoring distracting factors like social media escpacially tiktok or som like that if it plays any role- I am also trying to build up an strong mindset but sometimes it feels so heavy on my shoulders. Do you have any Books or Introductions I could read to get further informations or essential Detail for Astrophysics ?
(I apologize for my English)
Thank you for this, i'm still a kid but i aspire to be an astronomer
what kind of jobs this can lead too and where ?
Can you please tell me which Btech degree is best for astrophysics and maths?
I am good in program and coding and i am above average in math can you do astrophysics
Can anyone plz ... Guide me , i am inspired by the stars and the space and all in between, i really want to do something in this field of astronomy but i don't know where to start im starting class xii now in india plz ... Advice ,lots of love ...
Great video, but there is a question that I would love to ask. Do you need chemistry for a astrophysics degree? Math and Physics while I'm not so bright on I still at least tried to learn what I was given, but I completely gave up on chemistry during my earlier years of high school. Now a new year is starting and I'll have my last chance to take chemistry as a subject and I'm wondering do I need it? Like I know that it will certainly help me but is it possible to do without taking chemistry?
Absolutely. I didn’t take chemistry beyond GCSE’s (at 16 years old), and neither did many of my course mates. While it can be helpful it’s absolutely not essential
please anyone tell me complete course details to become astrophysicists after class 12th in india
👍🏻
What books do you recommend for begginers for such people that are in high school please make a video on that
I have a video on this already :)
Shall I then take a level maths to pursue this field? I've decided to take comp science, physics and English so I could pursue with space physics or AI. Shall I keep maths too?
If you're looking to study any kind of physics at a higher education level, A-levels in maths is a must. Often times it's one of the requirements for admission to universities
Hey Lewis, I am currently applying for astrophysics at university and have started to write my personal statement. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for some astrophysics book I could read that are interesting and could be put onto my personal statement.
The two books that got me into physics were 'A brief history of time' and '6 easy pieces' (although they are slightly outdated now). I have to confess, I haven't been reading much popular science books during my degree so I can't give many recommendations for newer books but I've heard that 'A brief history of Black Holes' by Dr Becky Smethurst (a great youtuber btw) is meant to be very good.
@@LewisMCooper thank you for the suggestions. I'll make sure to check them all out 👍
Sir Actually just finished my class 10 I am keen interested in astrophysicist and astronomy but subjects like maths and physics marks are not upto the level where I would be confidence to further go with my interest and I am slowly lossing it .Could you plz tell me what can I do ?😢😢.😮
If I do my undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, is it possible to switch to astrophysics during my master's? Thanks for the great video, Lewis!
I would say that would be quite difficult but not impossible - I’ve heard it’s much easier going from physics>engineering than engineering>physics. Without a physics background, you miss out on a lot of the fundamental concepts that are needed for an astrophysics degree. But it’s not impossible if you demonstrate a good understanding of the fundamentals and passion for the subject in your personal statement
i failed math and physics twice in grade X. 🤡just watching it as i was assigned to write a sop on astrophysicist
I gotta ask, do I (17) have a chance to start studying astrophysics/onomy in college, even after I've already graduated with some basic level math?
Absolutely
Chemistry is also used in astrophysics, isn't it?
Will you make a review on your diploma
I've already made a video on this. Check out my "What's in an Astrophysics Degree?" video :)
@@LewisMCooper thank you
hey Lewis, I am a 16 year old student and I need advice on what to do in order to become an astrophysicist. My idea is to get a BsC in physics and then a masters in astrophysics followed by a PHD in astrophysics. Is that a right thing to do?
That sounds like a good idea to me if you truly want to be a astrophysicist!
@@LewisMCooper change of plans rn. Thinking about doing BTech in Aerospace Engineering. Would be really nice if I could get admission in IIT. I live in a bad country to be looking for opportunities 😔😔
Cuz I want to be astrophysicist
…
Can we do bsc in astrophysics
Yes
What are subjects in astrophysics and how many are there?
I'd say some of the main subjects are high energy astrophysics & GW, exoplanet detection, galactic formation and evolution, cosmology and stellar physics. There are obviously a lot more but those seem to be the main ones right now. (I might've missed a few out!)
