I've been listening to ASMR since 2017 and it has become my place of comfort. Some people may find it weird but it's okay. Just like culture, it is shared but not forced.

Asmr is not weird, it’s the reason I was able to fix my sleep schedule and insomnia that my high school/early college life absolutely destroyed some years ago (yes, I’m ironically typing after 2am, but I had some things to finish up ok?) but seriously, I’m really grateful for you and so many other asmrtists for helping me get good sleep in general. Also love the humor in your videos lol

ive had issues with intimacy pretty much all my life yeah, but have also been listening to asmr since i was 14, so 8 years or so. i used to search up terms like "wear headphones" before i heard what asmr was. ive just always liked the binaural aspect of it

IF ASMR is considered weird, then I’m happy to be weird.
21:14 this is how so called "useful things" are created. We learned to make use out of apparently useless things, this kept us from being bored and gave us a sense of fulfillment and achievement. It also stimulated our creativity. Like everything that's ever been built or created came from something that appeared inherently "useless." I mean staring at the sky brought about astronomy, which people would now consider to be informative, educational, "useful" in some way. I'll draw on an example as a musician. Distortion, the fundamental sound of rock music was discovered from using a broken circuit. Its broken, its useless right? Nope, we found a use for it. Going on a bit of a tangent here but i had to because the point you're making of how not everything needs to be "useful" is actually so fundamentally important. Because we're the ones who create the usefulness and value. And so isn't enjoying something just for the sake of it just as useful? This age of information is wonderous but also dangerous.
I'll also add doing "useless" things for the sake of it is a very very normal animal trait (remember we are animals too). A lot of work goes into creating things that we don't "need" but enjoy, we've always done important work to produce more relaxation, quality recreation etc etc. Nature likes to enjoy itself man, usefulness is kinda a construct.
Btw, when talking about effort and resources going into creating products for people's enjoyment I'm not talking about large scale consumerism, I'm talking about any small scale project you might do to create some sort of enjoyment. Large scale consumerism is a different conversation and I would actually like to leave it out of this comment section.
asmr has really been apart of me to the point that i would tap on any item i see, randomly whisper to my friends and point out the sounds i like. imo it makes me appreciate even the smallest things and i can just take interest in anything

Like people can think whatever they want about asmr, but if they are going to take it to a point where they insult asmtist's or come at them for what they do and like, try to bring them down, why are they watching it in the first place. If they think its weird, why do they go out of their way to go to asmr channels, and comment on videos stating its weird? I totally get what you mean.

personal opinion: i am petrified for people to find out i watch this. i think asmr without talking seems less weird but i think when it comes to roleplays i am ashamed to watch them, the sets are phenomenal but the thought of someone finding out i listen to someone whisper to me in a roleplay context just seems really kinky?? 😭😭
