My wife's Dad was a firefighter. She is 71 now and still gets excited when she sees a fire truck on the road with its lights and siren going. It's in her blood, I guess.

Does anyone else find it strange that Ukraine was getting their behinds handed to them and now all of a sudden they’re kicking Russias butt? How? NATO fighters??
You know who doesn't find it strange, Putin. He knew it would happen and was very clear about the consequences for the west getting involved and those consequences are about to be dealt out.

Nato soldiers? No. Foreign soldiers fighting for ukraine? Yes there are, but this incursion into russia is quite simple to understand. No western strategies needed.. Ukraine was never really losing in a simplistic way. Land? Yes, but not positions or logistical support. It's military stopped the Russians from reaching kiev, from completely taking the breakaway regions, from taking any major city in ukraine, from controlling the black sea, and from achieving total air dominance. All of this with only slow released western second hand equipment, less personnel, no significant conventional naval power, a very very limited air force, and severe limitations on where those western weapons can be used (as in not actually striking missile launch sites within russia). That is actually a lot. May not be sustainable, but it is a lot. Now breaking into Russia was simple because on the border were stationed conscripts (who are only young soldiers who remain domestically placed) and chechen fighters who are famous for clips of shooting in the air. No mines, no trenches, no nothing. A cakewalk by comparison to the front. This really caught russia by surprise and it is now in a dilemma. It cannot simply level the place like Aleppo, because it is russian territory and russian citizens who will have to pay the price of rebuilding. Ukraine cannot keep this territory without a supply line, but time will tell what their reasoning was when brainstorming this plan.
