Did you notice the character whose wife was taken on their wedding day was played by tommy flanagan, who is better known for playing "chibs" in sons of anarchy.
He really isn't even that much of a wreck. He had a woman go woman on him and it ruined a few years of his life. He has been pretty normal before and after. It happens lol.
@Mubiki He went absolutely ape on a woman because she wouldn't.. ah.. service him. It was all recorded, then he lost his mind in a drunken antisemitic rant that was also recorded for prosperity. I'd say he's had a few wrecks he's not proud of. But whatever, we're all human. I appreciate his film making.
I was thinking the same thing while sitting in the theater back in 1995, expecting someone to rescue him like they did Kevin Costner in Robin Hood a few years earlier. I went home, looked William Wallace up in my dictionary. It read "Sir William Wallace, 1270 -1305, Scottish patriot, executed by the British. "
Dang, you’re observant! I’ve watched a number of reactions to this film and you’ve made observations and drawn inferences no one else has. Well done, you! Subscribed for more.
This my all time favorite movie. Even if not completely accurate from a historical standpoint, it was a very well executed film that inspired so many films and TV shows that would follow. Not just in filmmaking techniques, but in storyboard and screenplay writing. Not many films took the risks in subverting expectations and killing off the heroes before Braveheart.
William Wallace already was well educated before he moved with his mother to live with his uncle. Wallace home language was French. He also spoke Latin and English and Gaelic. William Wallace's father was a middle class knight and they lived in a fortress not in a farm. William studied in a monastery and he was about 16 yrs old when his father and brother got slaughtered by English. His uncles from his mother's side were both bishops. I stayed in Stirling last summer durin my one month travel around Scotland. I saw the battle fields, visited Wallace monument and saw his sword. I also visited the Campuskenneth monastery ruins and grave yard, the legenda says monks buried quater of William Wallace's body there in the darkness of night. His bishop uncle gave a secret order for monks take the torso piece away from Stirling bridge where it hung and bury it secretly in Campuskenneth monastery grounds. There is an oblong stone marking the supposed burial place. Oh and dark Stephen of Ireland was a real person too. He was an Irish warrior lord some even say he was a king who had to flee English from Ireland. He came very good friend for Wallace and saved him several times.
It’s a masterpiece and a movie that makes generations move and improve. Compared to today’s moral ambiguity bs, we were lucky to have it. William is what every man should strive to be. Also, the level of this movie in terms of effects, acting from everyone, narrative, music, literally everything… Masterpiece like I said
I'm 48 and Scottish. Braveheart is my favourite film of all time. I know it's not historically accurate but it's a film, not a documentary. It literally has everything, love,loss,betrayal,violence,redemption,courage,friendship......it's just a truly remarkable piece of work. The village scene where William rides in for revenge is my fave scene ever. Also....I'm very much British 🇬🇧 I harbour no ill will to my English neighbours. Especially over quarrels that were centuries ago. ❤🤍💙
To all of you history-obsessed critics out there, WE DONT FREAKING CARE. Braveheart is still one of the most timeless and powerful epic dramas ever made
This is one of my favorite movies but, it’s not historically accurate. Even still, it’s a very motivating and beautifully shot movie. Robert the Bruce was actually the real G in the history of Scotland, William was the one who set it off tho. He is a hero in his own right tho.
Didn't you listen to the beginning of the movie? History is written... Were you there? Bruce was a Nobel man. William just a low farmer boy. Who's name they are going to put higher. With all due respect your common intelligence should be a bit more... written down.
@ who says I’m going by historians versions, Scottish ppl who’ve heard the story from their ancestors will verify. Aside from that, historian accounts pretty much verify what ordinary ppl have said. It’s not hard to find out what’s truth from fabrication. Mel Gibson has had issues before with historical facts being distorted and ppl calling him out on it.
FREEDOOOM!!! This movie gets me emotional every time! My grandfathers fight for freedom of finland ww2.' We are maybe outnumbered but we can fight and win'🏴🇫🇮🙏❤️
The battle scene at Sterling is one of the greatest ever filmed. Still to this day. It’s so in your face. There isn’t wild samurai shit just a bunch of pissed off Scots
No offense. I will give you an example. I am an excellent worker .Why? Because I never listen what instructions I have been given. And every time I get both thumbs up. If I would listen I would be fired immediately. But who do you think takes the credit and big money. The person who's orders I followe until his mouth is shut. Then I follow my common sense.

The comment was for Boogie. That is a legend movie. Cool that people still appreciate it.
What surprised me was how well Gibson was able to interweave a love story into this epic

Appreciated your reaction to this awesome movie. Gibson may be a wreck in many ways, but the man knows how to make a movie. 💯🔥

Robert the Bruce wasn’t a traitor Hollywood made that up the Bruce is a Scottish hero like Wallace

Bruce never betrayed William.
It's not even confirmed that they met at all.
My favorite movie of all time. I've cried so many tears with the cry of freedom!!!
Stephen, my guardian angel

Williams' uncle educated him well.
And also Williams father tought him about using his wits.. Gargayle and him were brothers afterall.. I love how intimate it gets man..
@TheAlkochef taught. Also, his uncles name is Argyll.

Great reaction. Yours was the first I've watched, that kept every great emotion-laden scene. 👍

William Wallace’s wife really was killed in real life, although there is a lot of poetic licence as it’s a movie. There is some truth as well…
