It's agregious when deliberate striking and forward swatting is done with an open hand. This ain't it though.

There's no give in either of them. It's break or be broken. Max though embodies more of the yin yang ebb and flow of combat. He rolls and deflects weather's and denies his bodies imperative to shut down. His leg was denied the natural biomechanical need to give up and forced in to beautiful action by sheer will.
No other fighter refuses to allow his leg to stop the job of mobilizing his striking.
Gaethje just eats it and returns it until you're done or he's done.
