Ah, the USS Laffey. It's a great showcase of how survivable the Sumner is, managing to take more of a beating than some light cruisers would've. I'll try bringing up specific ships in the future, it's great for providing some context to how they perform in-game.
@@flippedstug9517 fun fact: the captain of that Laffey is a survivor of the previous Laffey (He swore to never loose a ship again, and He held this swear)
Reason why Summers have better AA capabilities is because it was serving in Pacifik, Sommers was serving in Atlantic where danger from german ships were much bigger than danger from german planes
I think they both work very well for the battle ratings. 4.7 you still see mostly other destroyers but 5.0 you start seeing a lot of cruisers and battleships, so the extra firepower becomes more needed
I don't know why gaijin suddenly chose to give to lots of turrets 360 deg arks - but no, they couldn't do it in real life. Neither selsyn nor brush connector technology was there yet. Many mechanical deck mountings could, of course, but precisely because they were quite "dumb".
They're different classes but with the same guns. The Somers-class was originally going to be more Porter-class Destroyers, but newer boilers gave them more weight to work with, allowing them to mount more torpedo racks. In WT the only notable difference would be those torpedos and additional crew of the Somers.
Disappointing you didn't talk about the one Sumner that survived 6 kamikazes :P Great video nonetheless.

@@flippedstug9517 I’ve been on the ship before, it’s more like a light cruiser at times than a destroyer, and not the mention the ship would not die.
It's great to see a channel dedicated to naval battles

Reminds me of the differences between the Tribal and the two JKN class destroyers
👀
Does it matter they both shred other nations DDs lol anyway nice video!
No. It just depends how quickly or how much variety you want to shred lul
Gotta say that the description gave me a good chuckle
I love watching my Sumner main battery gunners 360 track and flak barrage high altitude bombers.

Good video. I got a question, Somers and Porter are the same class or just have the same guns?

@@flippedstug9517good, thank you for your time to answer
You said Somers was scrapped by 1947. The USS Somers did work in Vietnam
That was a Forrest Sherman Class destroyer named USS Somers. The USS Somers of the Somers Class was indeed scrapped in 1947
I like the sumner better cause it looks amazing
