Wow, kind of funny that this pops up on my list of things to watch 13 years later. But man oh man, that was a fun game to watch. I remember going to it.
love wyo - such a great competitor since forever. Team, fans, everything. Countless memories of wyo fans chanting w-y-o in rice & rice-eccles stadium. Just fantastic!
What are you talking about? Utah scored 10 points in the second half we threw in second and third string in the 4th quarter. And as for the on sides kick you never know what can happen at the start of the second half. "You don't call off the dogs in the third quarter." We were classlesly chalenged!!!
Ah, just ignore the fact that Boylen had the B-Ball team at every football game last year and Witt reciprocated having several football players at b-ball games. Ignore the charity golf event between the U and the Y every year. Try attending some major events at the school and see if you can find the coaches there.
A “guarantee” just among student fans in the heat of the moment and Whittingham acts like he said something personally targeted and unforgivable and needs to be held “accountable” by removing the unwritten rules of sportsmanship. He’s a hell of a coach but he’s a petty little man sometimes
Can't read anymore of these comments, they're seriously pissing me off haha. Glad we're out of Mighty MWC, and away from WYO, and BYU fans. Good Riddance
I was reffering to people saying utah ran up the score. Coach Whitt apologized for the onside kick (which i still think was well outside the boundary of unsportsmanlike conduct) leave him alone.
"This would also make the regular season almost irrelevant." With the current system, the regular season IS irrelevant unless you're the champion of the SEC or Big 12. "Smaller conference teams ( mountain west) wouln't consider their seasons succesful unless they earned a playoff spot" Which is why you give each conference champion a playoff spot.
What a comment to come across. It’s been 13 years and so much has changed. Only three-ish more years to go until each power five conference champion gets a bid into the playoffs.
Another news flash from Laramie: Wyoming Cowboys' football practice was delayed on Monday for nearly two hours in Laramie. One of the players, while on his way to the locker room happened to look down and notice a suspicious-looking, unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Glenn immediately suspended practice while the FBI was called in to investigate.
Then there is also the fact that the SEC championship game was far more neutral location than the Sugar bowl, which was essentially a home game for Bama.
What i didn't tell you was I am a bigger Florida Gator fan than I am a Wyoming one. That National Championship trophy in Gainesville sure is nice. Betcha wish u had one of those.
If you look at the last 10 years of conference play everyone goes up and down. Does anyone remember 2002 when colarado state was the conference champion and B Y Who and wyoming were last? Every team in the conference has had controversy and problems. And after all it is a game. Utah made a statement. And if anyone can explain to me exactly how utah ran up the score by scoring 10 points in the second half i would like to know?
That must be why your screen name is strictly Cowboys related and you mentioned nothing about this until I mentioned the Sugar Bowl. Florida Gator fans have just been multiplying all over the net since January, popping out of the woodwork left and right.
Because I was brainstorming. Listing various possibilities as they came to me. I wasn't saying any one of them was written stone. Besides, an 11-team playoff would provide encouragement to Notre Dame to join a Conference.
Why did you even put 'or' in what you said. There is no possible way that that an 11 team playoff would work. I was pointing out the fact that suggested an impractical solution to the BCS.
I agree changes should be made, but a playoff would most likely screw Utah over in the end. A shorter season would mean fewer big regular season games. This would also make the regular season almost irrelevant. With the current system, one little error can screw a team in the end. This makes every game vital for each team. It would also uproot bowl game traditions. Smaller conference teams ( mountain west) wouln't consider their seasons succesful unless they earned a playoff spot
You know why nobody says something about Joe Glenn.... He formally got in trouble by the MWC where Wittingham has no repercussions for his actions except for a bunch of angry fans, and the poor example he set for his team..... I live close enough to get SLC news, and I NEVER hear about Utah or BYU coaches out in the off time representing the team or school In the off season Joe Glenn is at almost every Cowboy Joe Club Event, and publicly shows support for the other sports!!!
What are you complaining about? The onside kick gave Wyoming their best field position of the day, and the pokes STILL couldn't score. Don't be mad at Utah. Be mad at the Cowboy football team for sucking so much.
This just shows that: 1) You can't use comparisons 2) Even the best teams have slip ups 3) Certain teams match up differently Oh and I think the scores of the Alabama games were the way they were because when Alabama played Florida, they had something to play for. When they went up against Utah, they simply had no desire to even be there.
i never mentioned once that wyoming had a tough schedule. right now we are in a crisis and we r just trying to rebuild a little bit. we aren't supposed to be among the nations elite on our schedule though
Didn't take the ACT. I took the SAT. But no matter what score I say, you won't believe it and I don't really have a way to prove it. Let's just say my test scores were high enough to be accepted at Rice University.
OK, my bad. It was week five that UVa was in the bottom 10. Of course the dishonest wyopokes2 failed to mention that the bottom 10 is updated on Wednesdays and he put the most recent bottom 10 list that was posted just this morning, AFTER my post was made.
MOST churches "strongly encourage" their members to donate money to the church. Its not just the LDS. And the fact that you don't understand something is not a compelling argument against it. It only advertises your own ignorance.
continued... After a complete field analysis, the FBI determined that the white substance unknown to the players was the goal line. Practice was resumed when FBI Special Agents decided that the team would not be likely to encounter the substance again.
What makes you thing the onsides kick was to "rub it in"? Who are you that you think you can read Whit's mind? You have no clue why the play was called. My opinion was it was a safe practice of the play in a game situation and I have just as much to back it up as you do.
yep cause i am just so damn dishonest. sorry everyone. i'll try to be more rectitudinous from this point forward. anyway, wyoming didn't even play virginia this year. if you recall the virginia team we beat was the virginia team that went on to win 7 in a row and go 9-3 regular season. if you ask me thats pretty good. if we played like that the whole season we wouldn't even be having this quote unquote conversation
Kind of hard to get a lot of yards when the other team keeps giving you such a short field to drive down or special teams keeps scoring points. Or would you have rather Utah pulled more on-side kicks to get their offense more yards?
I doubt personal stuff went too far. I'm not a fan of running up the score...but Utah does need points for credibility in the BCS. So I really blame the BCS for all this. If we had a playoff system, Utah with a good record would have a good shot at a national title and wouldn't have to run up the score so much.
Reminder on Wyoming's record this year: Cowgirls 21 Ohio 20 Cowgirls 3 Air Force 23 Cowgirls 0 Brigham Young 44 Cowgirls 16 Bowling Green 45 Cowgirls 0 New Mexico 24 Cowgirls 7 Utah 40 Cowgirls 7 TCU 54 Cowgirls 35 SDSU 10 Cowgirls 13 Tennessee 7 Cowgirls 14 UNLV 22 Hey Wyoming fans, could you say "Goodbye" to coach Glenn for me?
All i'm saying is utah could have run up the score and we didn't 10 POINTS IN THE SECOND HALF is not exactly running up the score do you want us to quit? it's about playing your best all the time. it's a contest we both played our hardest and utah won.
I see you are unfamiliar with "first-round byes" There are 11 FBS conferences. A 12-team playoff would give each a spot plus one wild-card. Or just have an 11-team bracket. There are plenty of options. And finals are a non-factor. Every school I know of has finals in early to mid December. The playoffs would be late Dec to early Jan, same time as bowls are now.
Or like they kicked Bowling Green's ass...wait...damn it, I keep getting my ass kickings backwards. Silly me. Bowling Green 45 Cowgirls 16 Read it and weep.
You must be suggesting a 16 team playoff, which is too large. I can see a 4 team playoff, but by having a 16 team playoff, you would cut into student athletes studying time. In all reality, kids need to worry more about finals than they do about sports.
"This would also make the regular season almost irrelevant." No, it wouldn't. "With the current system, one little error can screw a team in the end." Obviously that isn't the case given Florida can lose to Mississippi and still be in the Title game. "It would also uproot bowl game traditions." Appealing to tradition is a logical fallacy, and is not a compelling reason to get rid of an unfair system.
I don't have 12 kids. I have ONE. News flash, there's this new activity called "reading" you might want to look into. How haggard is Wyoming's team after getting spanked by Bowling Green and Air Force, getting shutout by both BYU and New Mexico? I look forward to laughing my ass off this weekend.
1) I have probably been to more Florida Gator games than you have Utah ones. I have family in Fairbanks, Florida which is a stones throw away from Gainesville. 2) Damn, that BCS trophy is still really nice

Now, the pokes just need to take the emotion from losing like this, and put it into BYU this coming weekend and secure thier chance at a Bowl Bid... POWDER RIVER! LET ER' BUCK!

last Year Wyoming was up by over 30 on Utah and showed sportsmanship by not running up the score on the piss poor utes. You can beg your house that it won't be that nice in Laramie next year. Utah players will get hurt. Whittingham better have body guards.
"Oh and I think the scores of the Alabama games were the way they were because when Alabama played Florida, they had something to play for. When they went up against Utah, they simply had no desire to even be there." Well, that's the excuse. Reality is Bama got humiliated. Avoiding that alone should have been reason enough to play up to their standard ability. Everyone still remembers what Boise did to Oklahoma two years ago.
There are plenty of LDS churches in Wyoming. It may not be church headquarters but to claim Wyoming isn't affiliated with the church at all is pure delusion.
No, I'm not suggesting anything of the sort! I agree that the play is legal, but it was a play that should never have been called! They could have passed, ran or punted!
I was at that game. It was the best game ever we were all shouting "Guaranteed" And booing at the fucking pokies im glad we were not fair with them, i hope this is what we do to the Coogers next year.
The "guarantee" was a BIG mistake, but Whittingham is a liar. He wanted to rub in the victory. "You don't let up in the 3rd quarter." Baloney. Run your offense, play good "D." If you score points fine, but the onside kick was over the top.
Oh yah. BYU has never ever ran up the score. 10 points in the second half is RUTS? BYU would have put up 80. LaVell was the king of RUTS. Remember Crowton's onside against Air Force in 2001?
"I don't know y i'm trying to prove my fanhood to a creepo on the interenet anyway." Because there isn't much to celebrate about being a Wyoming fan? "You actually want to do comparisons?" I wasn't saying Utah would definitely beat Florida. I was saying Florida's case for a title is hardly solid. Utah, USC and Texas all had as much reason to be in the title game as Florida and Oklahoma did. The POINT (which sailed over your head) is the BCS is a popularity contest, not a legitimate system.
Wyoming 08 will be lucky to get four wins the whole season. W--Wyo 21 Ohio 20 L--Wyo 3 AFA 23 W--Wyo 16 ND State 13 L--Wyo 0 BYU 44 L--Wyo 16 Bowling Green 45 Don't worry, Wyoming MIGHT be able to beat SDSU this year.
As much respect as Alabama, Georgia or Arkansas? The armpits of the country? The target of just about every Jeff Foxworthy joke there is? Respect is EARNED, not given.
Way to go Joe!!! Your Cowboys don't deserve what Whittingham did.....yeah, and then he tries to blame his foolish act on a pregame pep talk with some students. What the ---???? Keep the faith COACH!!!!
The tests in all ages do require one to be able to spell "your" properly and knowing the difference between "your" and "you're", both of which are apparently beyond your intellect.
The only thing that surprises me about this is that more teams aren't using their Wyoming week to practice onside kicks and other high risk plays. Wyoming sucks!
Wow four years later and people are still bitching about something that happened almost five years ago. Both fans need to move on I'm a Wyoming fan and I moved on. Coach Glen is at South Dakota State now and away from Wyoming. Wyoming has got a better coach now who has already been to two bowl games compared Glenn's one. Utah is in a better conference now. The Mountain West is getting better with the additions of Fresno State and Nevada. Quit crying about something that happened five years ago.
I’m glad Coach Whittingham coached this game the way he did. My first ever football game, and I’ve loved the sport and the Utes ever since.
whitt is a damn legend for that
Wow, kind of funny that this pops up on my list of things to watch 13 years later. But man oh man, that was a fun game to watch. I remember going to it.
The gaurantee was NOT proclaimed in Utah. It was announced here in Wyoming. It hit the AP news wires, and Utah got the word.

Totally remember that. I really like Wyoming, but that was pretty funny. Joe Glenn is a good guy. GO UTES!

There are technically 12 conferences. What do you plan to do with Notre Dame if they have a good season if you stick with just the 11 team bracket?
One last thing--that Sugar Bowl trophy sure is nice.

did the conference punish the wyoming coach for displaying the bird
For the record, I played basketball in High School, so I DO "know anything what its like on gameday"

Ah, can't win an argument, then resort to threats. How...Wyoming of you.
Was Wyoming's SOS based on the assumption that Tennessee (3-4, 1-3 last place SEC east) was a good team?
It's funny how Brian Johnson said to "show us some respect". Does he think the onsides kick is a show of respect?

No, it wouldn't.

Amazing you were even educated enough to read it.
thats alex parks
I applaud the response to this post i'm tired of all the crap BY WHO is giving utah. WE WERE CHALENGED AND WYOMING GOT AN ANSWER TO THAT CHALLENGE!!!!
"You don't call off the dogs in the third quarter."
I'd vote for him!!!
I think Glenn was stupid to react like that but Utah didn't show too much class doing an onside kick up 43-0
1) Uh-huh, sure you are.
2) The Gators were the BCS champions, not national champions. There is no national championship for D-1 football without a playoff.

I don't think either coach covered himself in glory here, but neither seem like bad guys.
Well, I'd just like to congratulate the Cowgirls on their first bowl appearance in several years.
Hall is still throwing picks

2008 MWC title went to Utah, not BYU
Utah = Champs
BYU = Chumps
Go Utes in the BCS while their little brothers from Provo struggle against a decent Pac-10 foe (as opposed to the bottom feeders they beat their meat over earlier this year) in either Vegas or San Diego.
And yet only ONE four-year university in the entire state. Even Montana has more that that.
Oh, and learn the difference between "then" and "than"

@DarthServo Agreed. Go Utah
Hmmm Nick Saban and Alabama, should have watched this highlight.

fella american, check out this video at youtube called Save America by Roc Opera. spread the word to your friends

He stepped out of bounds a yard or so short, the pushed and got it the next play.
As much respect as Alabama, Georgia or Arkansas? The armpits of the country? The target of just about every Jeff Foxworthy joke there is? Respect is EARNED, not given.

Do you not know what the word 'or' means?
Oh, and has coach Glenn been fired yet?
Way to go Joe!!! Your Cowboys don't deserve what Whittingham did.....yeah, and then he tries to blame his foolish act on a pregame pep talk with some students. What the ---???? Keep the faith COACH!!!!
How the hell does the one-finger-salute "protect" anyone?
Can't say I think it was right, but it's still pretty damn hilarious! ha go Utes!
The tests in all ages do require one to be able to spell "your" properly and knowing the difference between "your" and "you're", both of which are apparently beyond your intellect.
I told you, the sheep don't count.
You don't know much so I'm not worried.
The only thing that surprises me about this is that more teams aren't using their Wyoming week to practice onside kicks and other high risk plays. Wyoming sucks!
Can't say that I think it's right, but that's still pretty damn hilarious! ha go Utes!
I know its 4 years late and hes retired but he went back to his alma mater South Dakota not south dakota state
