I discarded my other thumb picks after getting a 2-pack of these. Well, after getting two 2-packs. I thought one of the picks defective, asking Justin for a replacement, him sending me a personal vid how to configure the velcro (which I had done wrong) and sending me another 2-pack no cost just for giggles. That's who you are dealing with here folks. Just sayin'.
Hey! I'm here because I saw your gold 1 million subscribers plaque in your brother's office today!!! He was our attorney. He said you were the best guitar player out there. Hands down. End of conversation. You clearly know what you're doing!
I love fingerpicking the best, but hearing it with the hybrid thumb pick really accentuates the notes. I vote for that!❤❤Love your lessons, tips, songs, style and receiving notifications! 🙋♀️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
this is a solution to a problem i have had with thumb picks for decades. thanks for your dedication to improving, not just your own skills, but ours too!
I was so happy to find this. I have nerve damage in my hands and don't have much feeling. I had pretty much given up playing because I would keep dropping the pick or it would spin. Traditional thumbpicks would cause pain. Justin's hybrid was a game changer.
Thank the lord that this video came out when I am away on a folk residential! I'm in a bit of rut and have been over using various techniques, so am going to practice this with my thumb pick (never gets used, gathering dust in my case) thank you!
Inspired from your technique I have been practising with a hybrid thumb pick for about a month. I am having a lot of fun with the versatility it brings!
@@justinjohnsonlive thank you, I really appreciate yours and Nikki 's care and concern for me during the guitar lessons and the livestream it is greatly appreciated.
I never get tired of listening to you and you play. All the sounds you make are crisp or I’m not sure how to explain it. You don’t sound like most people. I think the guitar may sound different even by your presence or use of it.
Hey there Justin, I have enjoyed time again, your slow whiskey blues... I started playing in various open tunings a few years back and keep coming back time and time again, I luv watching you play.
Another masterful demonstration man yr guitar is probly the best sounding acoustic I have ever heard, I keep pickin away I know I will never be as good as y'all but I keep at it :)
Hmm I disagree, this type of blues seem like it's intended to be energetic happy feel-good type of music. Even if it makes the soul at peace all the same.
I have been making my own out of a metal banjo thumb pick and a nylon flat pick for the past 30 years but I can't hold a candle to your talent. Keep picking brother.
Ever since I messed up my picking index finger delivering mail, I can't hold the pick any longer. I had to finger pick and "strum" with my finger. This hybrid sounds like the answer. Thank you Justin.
I feel your pain, I injured my hand. Couldn't even play for months and when I could I pretty much had to relearn bc my fingers are retarded now. Took forever to get speed back
This should definitely help you out a lot with that. You should be able to use your old flatpicking technique without having to employ the index finger to constantly hold on to the pick and keep it in place.
I always thought this man just let the music speak for itself. Great informational content! Reminds me of a time when I came to violin lesson with a flexible pick attached to my bow frog for pizzicato. Worked great, but she said never show up to an orchestra with that thing.
I'm always looking for the perfect thumb pick. So far this is the best option. The only way I could get more out of it is if I was a decent flat picker. I'm really a finger style player that plays in a church orchestra where I have to sometimes switch up between electric and acoustic on my Taylor T5 and just for enjoyment at the house. Anyway, recommend giving this a try. Thanks Justin...I like your play a lot as well...
I have only played with fingers, never used a pick.until recently. Have started using a thumbpick because I play so much that the callous on my thumb keeps blistering and splitting open!
I never get tired of listening to this man play! I'm curious as far as gauging goes how would you say the mediums compare to the medium gauge Black Mountain pics?
I have tried many times to use a pick. No finger picks. No thumb pick. Just not my thing. However. The closest I can come to using any kind of pick has been one of these hybrids. Feels almost nature.
My usual perception of (non-metallic) thumbpicks is that they give a rather nasty plasticky quality to the sound, but not the one in this video. The on/off comparisons demonstrate that nicely, and I'd say that with the pick the low strings actually get a quality (or should I say quantity?) that nylon bass strings have but that I always miss in fingerpicked metal bass strings (esp. when not using nails as I do). Something about the attack and how they balance with the higher strings. Trying to get that using just flesh will ultimately grow you a thumb pick in the form of a wart a la Freddy Green. I think the secret here is that Justin is using a heavy pick, which is also my preference to get a sound quality that's closest to that of fingerpicking (aka the most natural). @Justin: what material is this pick made of, and does the strap design allow replacing it? I'd love to try one of these with the "BoneTones" buffalo horn picks with which I get the sound I like most (or even an ebony pick by the same company for nylon strings).
Anybody else struggle to strum with a thumpick and found a way around it? Always sounds clunky to me when I try. It's the one aspect that steers me away from thumbpicks.
Hey, this is exactly my case. No matter how I try strumming with a thumbpick, I never get the sound or feel I get with a flat pick. However, I got a pair of these a while ago and they're definitely worth it. After trying all brands out there, I believe this is the best choice for strummers.
...you're from another planet, man.
From planet Blues.
Yes he is❣️
Makes me realize the mtn is way higher in elevation 😮
Planet of practise and dedication 💯 No lucky shots in this game brother!
@@Magnum_Opus_Music and more talent than most people have.

Excellent demonstration and playing, love the thumb pick.
Thanks Ed! Rock on!

Awesome video and playing Justin! I use your hybrid thumb pick a lot and love it. It's actually the only thumb pick that's ever worked for me! 🎶✌💯
Love that! It's such an intuitive, natural design. I'm glad you're finding it so easy to incorporate into your playing style
Got my first thumb pick today for new resonator. At the base of the learning curve!
Awesome technique and the pick makes the notes brighter.

Hi,thank you very much 👌💪🏻🙏🇺🇸🇫🇷
I use a flat pick with metal finger picks on my middle and ring fingers.
Beautiful!
I use mine with my banjo! I pick the Earl Scruggs style! Love this thumb pick!
OUTSTANDING!!!

Very impressive skill set that you display - excellent, in my judgment. Play on, GuitarMan 😀
Ooooohhhhh yeeeeeeaaaahhh man
Hey Justin. Can you change out picks from the strap if you want to mess around with different gauges?
That's my question too. How is the pick attached to the first velcro segment ?
🔥🎸🍻😎
I am an addict to your videos bro
😳🤩
Reminds me of Ralph McTell!
I like ure style man...i love blues too...
Es cierto con la combinación de los dedos y la pua suena mucho mejor acentua las notas ,es poesia ,enhorabuena Justin

Am wondering that too. I also have the Black Mountain medium, but find strumming with it difficult.
Fantastic!! Does anybody know what kind of guitar is this though?
🎵
💜👍
Say there Justin just wondering what size strings you use on your flat tops or are they different gauges ? Thanks I am a subscriber
Uffs so awesome dear sir 👍👍💛🎼

OMG ...Wish could try Finger Picking Style....toooooo difficult to learn after playing with a Pick for almost 40 years!😢😢😢 Cheers from Canada ...
Jiminy…..so great.
Makes 12 string picking SOOOO much easier!!! you can pick the individuals out easier!!!!!
I have tried many times to use a pick. No finger picks. No thumb pick. Just not my thing. However. The closest I can come to using any kind of pick has been one of these hybrids. Feels almost nature.
I agree! They make it very natural. I tried conventional thumbpicks for years and they never really "stuck" until this particular design.
I would like to buy it but it is not shipped in Italy

That thumpick really adds accents to the music.
He rock so hard cos he’s not a mortal man.
