Edinburghs housing crisis is so dire between tourists and students its almost impossible to get regular housing. The homeless population is through the roof. They are building student accommodation everywhere, hundreds and hundreds of bedsit style accommodation...its given priority over family homes for rent in the city and yet students still use the private rental market. Once they have built it all this additional accommodation just for students they should make students stay out of private rent. You dont need an entire flat you are simply taking one away from a permanent resident does.
Why can’t a student have an apartment in the city they’re studying/working in? What makes you think she’ll move out any sooner than a ‘permanent resident’? In my home country parents buy their children apartments so that they’re not thrown in university dorms and have an actual settled place of residence where they can live a balanced life while pursuing their education. Nobody is taking away from anybody, the homeless are not victims of students buying apartments like any other person who can afford them would.
