Hey rob i work for a carbon fiber weaving company if you need need raw carbon fiber they sell nationwide and we can do any patteren and even program a rotor shape into the weave
That's pretty sick I didn't know you could program shapes into the weave I'd assume that's a rather expensive add on tho
bro that would be so fireee
I need to see that! Please rob collab with this dude
Kinda doubt this ever happening sadly. Formula Mazda parts are spec and pretty cheap to replace vs a one off carbon piece. They are one of the get into racing types of cars. IE cheap.
@@x808drifterThis is not his only race car though.
I love when you have 6 cuts in one sentence just to get a coherent statement out of Rob
😂😂😂
I thought about it for half of the video. Rob cracks me up.
I bet you forgot to say "That's not going anywhere" when you finished strapping down the car!
One time I forgot to say it wasn’t going anywhere and I couldn’t quit thinking about it so hard that I pulled over within five minutes of leaving and discovered that I had missed a tie down and it indeed might’ve gone somewhere.
Say your load blessings everytime people.
Ooofff… you need a set of transport wheels and a tire rack for the trailer to keep the tires off the ground. That’s the setup most formula cars use to transport, at least that’s what we used when I was involved in F2000. They look like bicycle wheels but with center lock or patterned for lugs. Gives you more room in the trailer too since the wheels are much skinnier. The tires are solid so you can strap down as tight as it will go. Also, look to Avon for tires, worth every penny and a solid service life for a weekend warrior. Can’t wait to see more formula content!
so, basically the same thing monster trucks do but smol
@@akidafloof What I do with my side by side so it'll fit in my garage. I just leave the 50s covered on the trailer until next time I take it out. Does stuck putting on and pulling off couple hundred pound tires every time you go ride but that's the name of the game.
Easy way to make a transport wheel is cut a piece of 3/4" plywood into a circle, drill a hole for the center and holes for the studs. If you want make them big enough to stretch a bicycle tire over them and staple. Also make them as large as you can while clearing the side pod, makes it way easier to load into the trailer with the additional ground clearance.
Avon is sadly quitting their tire production, But a company in the Czech republick has bought the rights/tools and will produce their tires again.
Hoosier R35 has been my favorite tire I've put on the FM. The R20 is even stickier but will overheat if you're not careful.
2:45 A lot of people may already realize this, but Assetto Corsa is a really good sim. It has some of the most accurate physics you can find in a racing sim, and the force-feedback it gives for wheel setups is also really good. With CSP and Content Manager, its definitely my favorite driving sim, espescially in VR.
How to end a video:
"Yeah titanium"😂😂
Watching Dr. Dahm deal with Weber problems (my problems) put a smile on my face
Idle EGT was high because something obstructed your fuel passage to the idle circuit on one half of the carb, making half of the engine run lean under ~3k until you corrected it (revving it out.)
Check out your fuel filter! Maybe go to a more fine micron rating.
🤘🏻
0:56 the secret sauce is to make custom pyramids that hold the car up in the trailer by the jacking points. Then you can put the straps on proper. You can make them out of wood. No need for billet (at first). I would not recommend using stands. These pyramids should be at the minimum lift point and with a very wide base (to prevent tipping). This is also a tool you'll use in storage so you don't let the car sit on the expensive tires or on the expensive suspension. Mind you, this should be done for every car that doesn't get rotated at least once every two~three weeks. This saves tires, bushings and the suspension (active bits).
For myself, i have them where one of the sides of the pyramid base is rounded, i pop them under the car at an angle with the tip wedged into the jacking point, then push the car forward and all four pop into place. Saves time when you "load" the car. Obviously, taking it off requires a jack).
I love how the video ends : yep titanium. Abrupt cut
The ol' oak tree mandrel. Works every time, 80% of the time 💪
“Yeah titanium”
Oak tree you're in my way
Rob, ratcheting over the tires won't hurt them. What I always did for hauling my and ,my customer open wheel cars (FF and F2000) was air up the tires to 25 psi before loading into the trailer. This gives you a bit more ride height making loading easier but also makes it a snap to ratchet down the car with straps over the tire. Then trackside when you go to set tire pressure you bleed the tires down to the required pressure. 25 psi isn't too much for the tire and won't hurt them in any way. Next, DO NOT tow a car in gear, any car but especially a Hewland gearbox. Remember they have no synchros, just dog rings and the gears so if you tow in gear any movement applies force to the gear teeth. Towing wheels are a great idea, get yourself a set of cast aluminum motorcycle wheels and on your lathe make adapters to fit your hubs, then weld them together. Lastly, get yourself a spare nose, nose bar and front wings and a complete rear wing assembly, mounting struts and all. The bent nose bar you straightened is junk, toss it in the metal recycle bin as it will bend again from downforce. Ask me how I know..... :) By having a complete spare nose with wings ready to install you won't lose a day at the track from a simple off track excursion or the car coming loose in the trailer! Remember to set the wing angles the same on the spare nose! PS: Those mufflers use lava rock along with the packing material. At least they used to use lava rock, maybe that has changed over time. To be legal for SCCA Formula Mazda/FX you have to use the required muffler, if you aren't worried about that them by all means, titanium!
Just strap to the front and rear lower control arms. Hauled my FM like that for 3 full seasons of racing never had a single issue.
Everyone: "Dude, you're on fire!"
Rob: "Thanks, that lap did feel really good!" 😁😜🤟
Make sure to fix the wings before your next outing. A wing without it's shape isn't a wing.
When my Beetle was still on Webers it'd load up like that, misfire, I'd just drive it around and before long the MSD ignition would blast off the fouled plugs and solve the misfire. Basically the weber is a race carb, it hates idling. So often you end up with a compromised AFR at idle, making it load up unless you just get it out on track.
If it didn't break, blow up or catch fire, did Rob actually drive it
Love the way Joel planted the titanium seed 😂
Seat time with a side of seat time and a dessert of seat time.
Best video endings in the game lol... great progress on your driving, if your getting to where tires will really make the difference its proof to me your not only gaining time but feel for the car and its traction. I love this car, it looks like such fun to drive.
I swear the old Mazda comp/Mazdaspeed motorsports race mufflers used Lava rock as a packing to deal with the heat.
Maybe that’s what this is and what’s in that muffler? They rattled like a box of rocks and weighted a ton.
Mufflers and ignitions are wear items. Guys would pick up 5-10hp after refreshing them, usually before big races like June sprints or the runoffs.
Love the formula Mazda, need more videos of you driving that beautiful beast!
The 'yeah Titanium' at the end was so wholesome.
Been waiting to see this thing in action again!
It took me more time than I care to admit to realize this is Buttonwillow.
It's so green!
Rob, take that guy up on his offer for carbon fiber please!
Imagine posting that. Do you think Rob is magic? How would he find "that guy"? Lols!
@@eriklarson9137 umm just ask him?
That dmg to the wing did not help the tail happiness of the cart
Thar rear wing was...not right. Most of the open wheel formula cars are meant to be a bit tail happy even when the aero is right.
rob i’m honestly so glad that you are so successful in what you do i’m from australia and i’m already keen to see some awesome aftermarket rotary internals. so glad that youtube can make a good honest bloke like yourself can make a living and spread great information like you are.
PIKES?? Congrats from the Volvo community can’t wait for the day to come
3:56 sounds like an old snowmobile I used to have.
I have dual wideband and dual EGT’s on my 13B, and I noticed rear rotor was down about 150°c compared to front rotor, did a comp test and it was just under 50psi on rear 🤦🏻♂️, EGT may be mediocre for tuning but def good for spotting problems 😅
Now it has proper AeroDahmnamics!
It's so awesome knowing you've seen and heard my work in person. I built the exhaust on the FCP euro 850 wagon that you drove with Jacob not too long ago.
bro is the nicest guy in the world . wishing you nothing but the best .keep grinding brother
I was right behind you in the GR corolla when you went off, cool to see you out there. That thing sounded good
Hey, Robert. A regular muffler will never last for the extremely hot breath of a rotary engine. The least muffler needs to be built of stainless steel. What would I use? Titanium. The warping was due to the tremendous heat of that engine. The reason the muffler failed wasn't because of the metal that was used. It was the thinness of it that was. Yes, guage wasn't thick enough. Do you know how hot the exhaust is from them? More than 700 degrees fierenheit. The reason why it's so hot is for the same reason as I described to you in the past posts I sent to you.
That looked like a Borla XR1 muffler. For how hot the exhaust gets on those engines, especially with the very short run from the engine to the muffler, you might need to look into Inconel.
Can't wait for Pike's Peak!
Love the formula Mazda content
I have been waiting for more formula Mazda content!! Love that thing haha! When is the indy car comming back too?
I love that car. That would be such a fun track day toy
I want that thing so bad. I would have nowhere to use it but I want it 😂
Dude looks like so much fun
Damn man not used to seeing Buttonwillow that green!
you know with enough airflow it can cool the exhaust and push any impedance out, so I feel like a turbo would really cool things down
Neat!
Sick
Nice sharing Vidio 🇮🇩🏎️🏎️😍👍👍
Hey Rob, I was curious what factors go into the decision to have videos like this be so short compared to your deep dives
gopro pov footage of you racing pls
Pikes Peak LFGOOOOOO!!!!!❤
That’s a true full send 🔥🤣😂🤣😂
Hey Rob, rule #12 no crashing in the Pits 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Honestly can't wait to see you make the formula Mazda better once you catch up with the car. I wonder what kind of suspension and performance upgrades are possible.
Living the childhood dream!
Not sure what movie it was, but I remember seeing an F1 car drive on the streets in a movie when I was a kid. Ever since then I thought it would be cool to own one someday
Detroit Grand Prix. They did it for a while IRL.
Driven (2001). You can find the race scene on the streets on youtube.
@StahortheDark Thank you! 👊
Definitely not the dream in Wisconsin, took my FM for a lap around the block once, thought the road is going to rattle every filling in my mouth loose lol.
Lots of the FM racers use lava rocks to pack the muffler
We miss you Rob
I love your videos rob I'm 16 and so inspired to get a rotary because you explain in a way non rotary people would understand its fenomenol. Keep up the good work. Cant wait for the next video I get so excited when I see the notification on my phone that you posted. Love the videos and thank u for the knowledge.
The reason why the front wings are design like that and so you can adjust the angle of attack .
2:45 show us your sim rig man!
Can we see you build a nice exhaust for this plz? Titanium ❤
Is this close to formula Pro Mazda on iRacing? I love that car :)
No, totally different cars.
I did what you did to your muffler on my cr250 once the core turned red hot in the silencer and burnt the fiberglass packing enough it started to clog it.
Notification squad!! 🔥🔥🔥
Please sir can I have some more?? Lol. Rewatching the vette build cause I am having content withdrawal!!
Lets gooooooo.
"it needs redline" this fucking kill me 🤣
aww I was expecting for a 40min vid
Hey Rob. Never ever should you transport a car while left in gear! Have seen many a gearbox ruined by doing this. The constant rocking back and forth will imprint the bearings onto bearing spacers shafts and gears and then they can fail. Have also seen gear teeth break off!
Rob,I love you man
When you say it was sound, taste and feel…………..
How do you think we did it before computers
Lmao
You rock man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Titanium ❤️
where did you buy it
Hey Blake. I mean Rob!
got a link to that assetto corsa mod Rob?
what is the width of the front and rear wheel track?! (thank u)
Over the tire straps for the e- track. And spend 120$ an real straps
It'd be cool and ironic to use a C5 Z06 muffler since they're made of titanium.
we need pov driving footage!!!
😂😂😂 what better excuse for some carbon bits..... just make sure you use wheel chocks that way there won't be any trailer suprises 👍
Fire, huh huh huh, fire...
When did the formula get a rotary?
You need transport only wheels for all your cars to overcome the issues you experienced car
Formula Fire Ti; I like it.
if your transporting a vehicle in a trailer, id say dont put it in gear but keep the handbrake up, wouldnt wanna mess up the engine/trans from back and forth forces, and more ratchet straps lol
Hand brake? This is formula car.
Gotta do the Marlboro theme but use your name instead of Marlboro
please get a hans and lighter helmet 😊 for example an fiberglass arai gp7 weights around 3.5lbs how much does that racequip weigh 5 lbs? makes a big difference for driving
It really sounds like a small go-kart
it being tailhappy, does that not mean a better rear spoiler is needed?
Noice🎉
Just remember, you’re living a dream 99% of us couldn’t re-live!😊
It's a $15,000 car, a racing license is a $600 weekend with MCSCC and it's valid for SCCA. A typical race weekend will run you about $500. YOU can do this, even go wheel to wheel, instead of the parade laps you're watching here.
😮
Assetto Corsa ❤❤
Rob are you doing alright?! What do you have cooking up, it feels like it’s been a month since you posted anything, just checking on ya 😢
FuckenA bud!!! Come hangout on Road America..phenomenal track, i think you'd really enjoy it
Yes definitely titanium
TWELVE rotors?
3 rotor and time attack mods , when?
In dahm we trust I'm going to keep saying this
12 rotor content
What track is this?
Buttonwillow Raceway Park
You’re going to need more aero for pikes peak so this is a good thing! lol Bigger front splitter, bigger rear wing, and maybe some canards
The lack of punctuation ruined your comment.
