I've got a 500x so agree that its a great engine. Yes its not exactly powerful, but for a commuter/town bike it really can't be beaten. Great combination of reliability, fuel economy and power to zip in and out of traffic.

@tf9888 I agonized over what to get for quite a while, and I'm sure that I'd love whatever I picked, but it really is fantastic. Covered around 4000 miles so far, mostly just commuting.
That rumbly twin motor is characterful yet smooth, and I prefer the feel and the handling of it when compared to the X and the R (both of which I tried out).
Everybody I speak to likes the colour, though my father calls it 'shiny primer'.
One thing to bear in mind, I fitted some R&G crash bungs after I got it, but a few months later one of the mounting bolts sheared in half, and it was a total nightmare to get the remnants of the bolt out. It was very strange as I hadn’t dropped it or anything. Definitely would not recommend fitting them.

@tf9888 I didn’t think that my dealer would be prepared to fit a non Honda branded product, but I guess if yours are then they’d have to sort it if there were any issues. I don’t know anything about other similar products, I just decided in the end not to drop the damn thing. 🤭
      Happy to help!

I have a black 2019. On full license. I often think about getting a quicker bike just because I can but then my brain kicks in as I’m not using anywhere near the full power of the CB most times, it handles perfect and the mileage is insane.

I just bought the rebel cmx in red 2023 , the reason I bought it was the difference in weight from my virago 750 , it’s about 45kg lighter than my virago , and it’s probably faster on pickup and top end speed, the brakes are good with the ABS , this is the first bike I have had with ABS , and it’s got better stopping power that the twin disc front virago , I did have to put a all in one seat and forward controls on it for my disability, the petrol consumption is good to , I am averaging 67 mpg , but the virago is more comfortable to ride and that’s the only thing that I miss on my rebel , the lights are good and I was doing the same thing as you with the horn instead of the indicators , this rebel is definitely a good bike for someone who wants a lighter bike .

i bought a 2018 with similar mileage, despite having a full A licence for about a year. locally these don't come up very often, i ended up going 100 miles north to Donington. i was still fairly happy with my YBR 125 custom but having something i could go further if i ever get around to bike camping, and i can knock a bit of time off my commute on the dual carriageways. for me its quite a bit bigger than the 125 and im just getting used to it, at 5'5" i can get my feet down, not quite flat, i've added a Givi windshield and it really helps at those over 50 speeds

I have a ybr125 - fun around town. Looking at the CB500f as my next bike (once I pass full). Seems a great all-rounder. I bike camp as well (wild). Seems like I shan't be disappointed with the bike! Woo.

@@Mr_Smith1327 i mean one reason why riders insist on being as invisible as possible is cause they do all the illegal things, but other than that, they might just love the look.

Started my DAS this week and today i was on this bike, oh god it was awesome man. kinda want one but we're on a 700cc tomorrow however i think a 700 would be a bit much for my first bike, so thinking of the cb500f would be my pick for a few years then upgrade to a bigger bike.

My cb500f is the 2016 in red. I've owned her for 2 years now even on a full A license I've no notion to change so far. I've got her mileage a little high now (pushing 28000) and still just adore it. Think it was around 14000 15000 when I took her off my other half... I do sometimes look for another gear, but apart from that, I have not really felt I need more. I ride all year round so I do battle odd areas of rust as you pointed out, but actually, it's very little and now I use acf50, it's very manageable. One day I might take bits off and give them a new coat of paint, but it's so minor, I prefer to just ride her and do what is necessary and not stress it.
BTW... Yellow with a hint of green is what I think that one is too 😁
Its raining here today and you've made me want to go play on my bike... I don't mind riding in the rain, but I hate getting her uncovered and unchained in the rain so now I have itchy feet 😂

I have to agree, a very good bike, and the engine is great - I liked my 2018 model but I didnt love it, so I test rode a Z650RS which did everything better except the engine isnt as smooth so I bought one of those and I love that - obviously not A2 compliant but I think you can tell the difference between the chassis as the F is a lot older design - still very good though and having ridden one, I would recommend it

It’s nearly ripe banana yellow! Or should be if that isn’t what it’s called. 😂
I am working towards my test and I am not sure if I would ever want more bike than that. I have my 125 (ish) Varadero and the only thing that appeals more is a Kawasaki versys x 300.
I can see that 650 is better value and more abundant but the extra weight seems pointless if speed is not of the essence. I can pick up a lighter bike when off tarmac and man handle it better in muddy conditions. A2 looks like all I will ever need. Is speed a disease that gets worse over the years?

  • @Drobium77

Had an old CB500 back in 1998 just after me beloved CBR400RR got nicked :-( (worst feeling of my life!!) I bought it off the bloke how I did my direct access course with and it was actually the bike that I passed my main test on.
He's used it as a race bike in the CB500 class and it came slightly tuned and with a race can, and by god do they sound amazing with a race can!!!
After that I used it as a dispatch rider around central London for a year, and all over the country. I did 40k on it and then chipped it in for a faster bike. I think it was a GSX600f??
Any hoo, it was one of the best bikes I have ever owned, and was one of the reasons my mate John got a 600 Bandit, because I said, next to the CB500, his old Honda VT500 sounded like "a sewing machine on speed" 😆
I can imagine the new one are pretty great too, considering how long they've been around

Man I loved my VT500, despatched it round the clock from brand new. Sensible slim shaftie, why don't they make shaft drive 500's anymore? Had a couple of CB500's as well, and more recently a CB500X from new to 55k when I sold it. It's pretty much the perfect go anywhere, do anything bike.

I had the 2018 version same colour. It was a good bike as far as performance, mpg and handling. There it ends the seat and the handlebars made your riding position uncomfortable forward . Because of this awkward position when I hit a small bump in the road that was it. I ended up making several trips to the osteopath. Forcing me trading it in after only 4 months of painful riding. I give it a 3 out 10.
