    Hey Jake, was wondering if you guys thought about using the forks on the tractor to haul 5-6 logs over by the excavator. Mark them all up and then just swinging over and grabbing them instead of tracking over to the pile. Love the new equipment and how much your channel has been growing

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  3 месяца назад +2

      We have thought about that but we will be moving the log pile closer once we finish what we currently have

    • @TF856
      @TF856 3 месяца назад

      It would be more difficult to move logs with forks.
      You would be lucky to be able to move One log at a time with forks without it falling off.
      Using a grapple would be easier and safer to grab several logs with.
      Actually you could use the grapple to cut multiple logs at the same time. Thought you would most likely need a longer chainsaw bar.

  • @dereksstuff8395
    @dereksstuff8395 3 месяца назад +1

    Great job. Sometimes when moving a bit of logs with the mini, I will set 2 or 3 logs in front of the blade. Then you can carry 1 with the thumb and push the others to the cutting area. Not ideal when compared to the grapple, but only using 1 machine.

    If you wanted to speed up your cutting time you could alternate log cuts by putting one log on pile of blocks,where it's still really easy to reach , while excavator gets another log

    Was just thinking that if you can find a way to get that log pile closer to the splitter it would really optimize your operation. It has been awesome to see this story unfold over time and it's really all starting to fall into place. We are just getting started on our woodyard journey and have learned so much from this RUclips firewood community. Thanks for sharing your experiences, it has shortened our learning curve immensely and I look forward to the day when we can help others the way that you all have. 👊👊

    You could use a grapple to pick up several logs at the same time and cut several logs at the same.
    But you would need a longer chainsaw bar.
    If this works for you it would be a definite time saver.

    Remembering that I'm not in the skidsteer is the hardest thing for me as well. I forget and try to go forward and the cab turns or the boom extends! There is a definite learning curve and I am still learning. I don't have a lot of hours on my excavator either, so I still have to stop and think about what I want to do. It will become second nature though, We just need more time in it.
    It took some time to get there with the skidsteer too. Patience Grasshopper!

Please be carful running the saws without protective chaps . I even do it sometimes in the wood yard but I have also had stitches in my young year and have at least 3 pair of chaps that saved me . Bucking with that excavator is a game changer I been doing it for years . Stay safe guys .

    Hey guys, you have the space: my I suggest a rig to stack the wood and automatically refill a rack for one log with chainsaw cutting? Also, what if the excavator was used at least just with its weight, on something like a stump splitter? Then it'd be more like whack a mole with lots of stumps lined up. I wonder if you could get or make an excavator wood chopping attachment :o a blade on the clamp bit should do fine spltting

    Lots of professional equipment operators preferred joysticks over foot controls.
    Even bobcat eventually had to start offering joystick controls instead of just foot controls on their skid steers!
    In spite of what you see or hear online there is a big difference between controls and control patterns.
    Controls refers to the placement of the main function levers whether they are in front of you or beside you.
    Backhoe controls are usually in front of you or between your knees.
    Excavator controls are always beside you, next to your thighs.
    (Some operators become hardwired to use backhoe pattern when they have backhoe controls and excavator pattern when they have excavator controls. When trying to use one pattern on a different set of controls can really screw a person up. This also happened to me.)
    Control pattern means what each lever controls!
    Nowadays, on most machines, what each lever does can be switched over between two different patterns SAE or ISO. More commonly referred to as cat or John Deere paterns.
    Either pattern can be used on either type of machine, excavator or backhoe.
    Some backhoes also offer excavator controls and can use either pattern.
    The pattern change valve is usually underneath the floorboard of some excavators or in the engine compartment.
    On backhoes the change over control used to be underneath the left rear fender on some tractors or on the dashboard on later tractors.
    Most small Chinese machines don't have the option of a switch and must have the hoses rerouted for a different pattern.
    Some recent excavators also now offer what they call stick steer. This allows you to change the function of one joystick into all travel movement just like a skid steer tractor at the touch of a button.
