I loved every moment of this. I have missed my old friends - I didn't realize how much I missed them until I saw this. I am more than grateful to William Shatner for producing this, everyone who helped, OTY, the Roddenberry Archive, et. al. I will admit to bawling like an infant the first time through. I get misty-eyed each time I watch it. Yes, I wanted a few lines of dialogue, but this was done so well that it had GREAT impact even without a word spoken. I look forward to anything more that they do and hope that we will get so much more. The micro-expressions brought back Jim Kirk in a haunting way because it WAS Kirk as embodied by Shatner. If they can make a live-action version of ST: TAS like they are talking about, I'm in. I'll pay to watch it. I have enjoyed TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, as well as Prodigy and Lower Decks, but TOS is MY STAR TREK. First love. Can't be topped. The crew of that Enterprise, no bloody A, B, C, D or E, is and always will be the crew I love the best.
@@robertmartinjr.4537 Yes and No. The changes in Disco could be attributed to the ongoing Romulan sabotage of Human development through time we see in Strange New Worlds season 2. Which is how they explain why Khan is a kid in the first quarter of the 21st century instead of the last quarter of the 20th century as explained in TOS Space Seed.
@@robertmartinjr.4537 It was wonderfully done, but I wish they would just drop the Kelvin universe and Discovery. They are both made by people who do not understand Star Trek. This Otoy short is actually based on a comic, Early Voyages issue 13 which was published in the late 90s. They could have just stuck to that and there was no need to bring in any Nu-Trek.
I absolutely loved this. This had me moved big time seeing it. I saw Generations when it was initially released in theaters. They did a phenomenal job with this. It's nice to know they actually brought him in for this.
I love the ambiguity and mood of the film. Carlos Baena had a very difficult task set before him and he nailed it. Sam Witwer is a marvelous talent too- there's a moment where Kirk approaches Yor that made my brain light up, as Kirk angles his body slowly to the side as he makes his move. It's so subtle and convincingly captures William Shatner's presence. I could go on about shot-by-shot, it's layered and breathtaking. Thank you for being so generous with your art, all of you.
When they showed Gary Mitchel in the opening scene, I was shocked, and instantly brought back to TOS. Loved it. And I didn't think that Kirk and Spock were looking at a sunset out the window at the end, rather I thought they were looking at what Gary Mitchel was doing out in space, as he could be the cause of all of this. :) Expand upon more of this please.
I saw the video and it is a lovely easter egg for Star Trek fans. The realization that the Original Stars will be all gone very soon. This probably the ending all fans wanted to see. Spock and Kirk going off into the unknown after life. I know Mr Shatner has unresolved grief with Mr Nimoy. This is his gift to put a bow around it. IMO
What an epic work of art, a wonderful tie in to shatnerverse novels, new and old trek, a fitting farewell? To shatner as Kirk, and gives his and Spock's characters closure. It was beautiful. Also great seeing the creators, and Sam W in chat!
This is LOVELY. How can one describe things that can barely be described!!! ...Let's Stream, or something!!! There are some awesome Ideas I have for upcoming Ship Topics! You should *SEE* them!!!
Just watched it. It happened. It finally happened. 30 years. Cried? I sobbed. I wasn't ready for this. I'm still in shock. Gonna need some time here. I can forgive anything that wasn't 'perfect' - The no talking, the occasional off-kilter body movements, the "Nu-Trek". None of that matters. This is so much more, so much bigger than any trivial criticism. So much 'more' than anything that's happened to Star Trek in decades. Thank you to all involved. I didn't know how much I needed this. I loved it. Thank you.
It all seemed to me like it was happening in the NEXUS , '' We leave a part of us behind '' until this nexus Kirk emerges from the nexus to join spock on his death bed in the other universe . 🌹
@@TheDarkPorkins Yes but what about the three Kirks scene ? very dreamy nexus type event , then simply placing the badge on his chest and transporting to Spocks death bed in the other universe ? @@colinlllanbadarn2039 I think that was more of a place between time and space. LT Yor transported him into the Kelvin universe. I assume the 3 Kirks was just for effect.
A hauntingly beautiful rendering of the grandeur that the Star Trek universe encompasses. Reminded me of the scenes from Arthur C. Clarke's 2001 film. Definitely revealed yet another emotionally charged moment not seen since the end of Wrath of Khan. Words were not needed. We miss our heroes and want them to be eternal. Everyone wants Kirk and Spock and the crew to continue their journey because it embodies our mortal coil. The characters in this vignette demonstrate how intertwined ever aspect of Star Trek connects to us. Ships, people and places all pieces of our journey into that frontier... 🥲
My favorite part was the three Kirk’s looking at each other. Wasn’t expecting it. Also when it comes to the closure for Kirk and Spock where they don’t talk, I think they don’t need to talk. Their friendship and brotherhood transcends the need to talk where he just needs to be there at Spock’s end. Finally I wish they could have had McCoy there as well. DeForest Kelly was so integral to the overall friendship of Kirk and Spock. And the episode could have ended with them at Yosemite at the camp fire from Star Trek 5.
It could make sense for the season 1 TNG alien to be there, as he's a Traveler and is giving the Nexus Kirk the comm badge to go into the parallel universe and find Spock.
Liked that Saavik lived to be an old woman, possibly until the late 2390s, and Kirk sees her as he never knew her, but still recognizes her. Commander of the first Shangri La class Titan. Heh.
I want to see this sequence added to the end of Generations. It should be placed as Kirk dies and says, "Oh my...." it would be like the Donner Cut of Superman II. I really think fans needed closure like this for Kirk.
There was supposed to be a Crusher (a character somewhere in Unification 765874 in there, but which Crusher? I don't know). I'd say it was Gary Mitchell's way of giving William Shatner to be able to be there for Leonard Nimoy as he passed away. I mean Kirk to be able to be there for Spock as he passed away. Or all of it, all at once.

It made me cry; it's so good. They even merged the comics storyline into it, and we get to see Spock's son behind Savik.

The bridged two universes, TOS, the TOS films, Generations, Discovery, and even the Kelvin universe in 8 minutes. Unreal effort. Just amazing.

Colt, in a Kelvin timeline uniform, in the Daystrom Station from Picard S3 is interesting...

By the way Michael Giacchino did the music for the short film. The guy who did JJ Trek (and The Batman).
