Can I just say how happy realising that I actually understand every word you're saying in this video is making me! I'm from Finland and I've been studying Swedish at school for about 5 years now and in a couple of months I'm taking my final exam on. Listening comprehension has always been the hardest part of Swedish for me, so I'm really thankful for this series! 💕
It would be cool to see stuff like "around the house på svenska". Some examples: "this is my dog Rascal, he's X years old. And this is Menace", what you made for breakfast, etc. Relatively simple stuff that is everyday life and therefore everyday vocabulary!
This is amazing, thank you for doing this. I've been learning Swedish for a while now and could understand everything you were saying without having to look at the subtitles, but it's still super nice to listen to. And to my fellow Swedish learners: there's this radio programme called klartext that has helped me A LOT. It's not as easy as this video, but still much easier than regular broadcasts. I'd recommend you give it a try once you've got the basics down.
Tack SÅ mycket! I just finished up the Swedish course in Duolingo after doing it every day for a full year, so this timing couldn't be better. I've been planning to spend more time this year watching and listening to more Swedish to get the hang of developing a better ear for it, and this is just perfect for helping get the basics down. This is gonna be super helpful in getting my Swedish better before I move there next year. :D
I am thirteen years old and i‘m from Germany. I learn english at school and I want to learn swedish, because I’m obsessed with this land😂 It’s a great way to practice english and swedish at the same time, and I’ve searched so long for a video like this. Thank you, this series will helps me a lot understand both languages better!😊 It’s funny that you want to learn German because as I said I’m from Germany and want to learn Swedish.
This is amazing! Thank you for doing this. I have been trying to learn Swedish through Duolingo for almost a year now and I'm surprised how much I could understand from this video
this is gonna be really helpful, one of my new years resolutions is to practice swedish more on duolingo as i've been slacking recently so hearing the language in context will be a good addition to that! :-)
Thank you so much, this will be really helpful for beginners like me! I'm surprised at how much I actually managed to understand just because of the slow rhythm of your speech. I'll definitely be writing down, translating, and repeating what you say a few times with increasing speed. :) Maybe you could talk about the different regions in Sweden, midsommar, Swedish food, your views on neighbouring countries, and religion in Sweden next. Just a few suggestions off the top of my head. Please keep these videos coming, and once again, tack så mycket! :)
Tack så mycket! I’m trying to learn Swedish and it’s helpful to have someone who speaks slowly so that it is easier to understand and actually be able to make out every word and how it is supposed to be pronounced. ❤️♥️
This is exactly the kind of thing I've been searching for! The slower pace makes it easier for me to pick up on new words and phrases because at regular speed I often can't tell if I'm hearing something new or if I'm just not able to follow along at that speed (or both). Tack så mycket! Jag ser fram emot din nästa video!
Thank you for making me feel like I'm making genuine progress in my studies. It feels magical to me to understand what another person is saying without using any english. Tack så mycket!
i'm currently learning norwegian and i understood this perfectly (even the fast part) !! when you learn a scandinavian language it's like a 3 for 1 deal, i love it
This is absolutely fantastic! I've tried learning Swedish by watching RUclips videos but it's usually way too fast and I already thought about giving up but this is just perfect! I'm so excited for this series!
Thank you SOOOOOO much for taking the time to do all of this for us. I'm a French-Canadian that learnt English at school etc. And now learning swedish through english so your videos will help ALOT !!! Thank you again so much for all the subtitles, and your time, you are the best !
Tfw you understand around 70% of the video 🤗 I'm so appreciative of you speaking at a slower pace, and you're a very clear speaker, if that makes sense. I found this extremely helpful. Your videos have helped me so much, along with Duolingo and a few workbooks from Amazon. Thanks so much for all of your help!
Im currently on exchange for the year in Sweden, about an hour north of Stockholm. Im always finding myself telling people "prata långsaaaam" ,, this video is perfect, tack!!
this is actually really helpful, because im finnish and im writing Swedish next autumn (uni thing.. dont know how to say it in english). and i reeeallly need all the help and contect i need 😂😂
Thank you so much! This is literally so helpful, I'm learning swedish to be able to speak to my girlfriend in her native language. Swedish is so beautiful, tack så mycket!
This is amazing! You have no idea how this series (or just only this video!) will help me properly learn the pronunciation and improve my vocabulary in swedish, incredible idea thank you a hundred times!!!
Thank you so much! I have studied Swedish only 1 year. This is PERFECT for me. I can understand about 95% of the vocabulary by listening. Subtitles, of course, are helpful. I also appreciate access to BOTH English and Swedish subtitles. Please make more of these.
Holy shit! I’m from Switzerland and have NEVER taken a Swedish lesson and yet I can understand so much of what you’re saying!! Amazing how close Swiss German/English are to Swedish. Ok, that’s it: I’m learning Swedish next! 😄
I'm from Belgium and my native language is Dutch! I was actually surprised that there were quite some Swedish words that resemble their Dutch counterparts, like "talking" in Dutch is "praten", it resembles the Swedish word "pratar". I also know a tiny little bit of Danish (just really basic things like "Hvordan har du det?"). I'd love to learn Swedish this way :)
I understood pretty much every word you said! As a Portuguese learning Swedish (I lived in Sweden for half a year and I plan on moving back) I'm beyond excited for this series! Tack så jättemycket 💞
oh my god. oh my god. yes please. this is amazing. my brain's like, hey wait, this is slow enough for me to retrieve the information and make sense of some of it! oh my god, thank you! i have no formal training in swedish and every time i understand one little thing it makes me so proud
Thank you, I'm really excited for this series. I'm currently learning Swedish and it was really helpful to hear both the clear pronunciations and "faster" variations.
Thank you! I've been looking for videos in Swedish but as you said, native speakers were too fast-talking for me to understand. I'm enjoying your videos as they are so this is a great bonus! Can't wait for more videos! :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm a long time watcher of yours, and your videos were part of my research that finally convinced me to move to Sweden! I went there for my final job interview and saw your Runner's World magazine cover, which was really cool. Now I'm all sorted with a wonderful job and I'm moving in a few months. This is just perfect - thank you so much!
That was great! I understood everything perfectly except for when you started speaking to people who are fluent at 2:29 - 2:44. After a few listens, I understood. Something I would enjoy would be normal spoken Swedish followed by the exact same thing in this "Strange Slow Swedish" dialect, perhaps followed by a repetition of the normal spoken Swedish. I have good comprehension of written Swedish, but I am still having trouble closing the audio comprehension gap from "slow strange spoken" to "normal", so some content in the middle speed would be helpful. The subtitles are a really great touch. Excellent work. I can't wait for the next "video for beginners" to be posted!
I have recently moved to Sweden. I have been trying to learn for a long time but I must admit the idea of slow speaking + subtitles is an excellent idea. When you learn a language you have to get your ears used to the language, all the new sounds and words, expressions and so on... Excellent idea I reckon ! I already used many different ways to improve my swedish and this is one I didn't have so far and it helps, tack så mycket !
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS !!! I learnt english mainly via movies and series but I can't seem to find many swedish content to practice and to get used to the sounds, so this will help a lot !
Omg this is the best idea ever! Thank you so much for making this series :) It helps a lot because you spoke slowly and I can understand what you're actually speaking about even when I don't look at English subtitles. Tack så mycket, du är trevligt. You can talk about Swedish school system, maybe how you spend your day or while preparing a meal you could speak in Swedish and use verbs associated with cooking and food, or do a make-up tutorial, talk about your favorite shows or do a Q&A in Swedish
I'm learning by heart all of these slow Swedish videos and taking notes from the subtiles, you can't imagine how useful they are! Tack så mycket for doing this!
This is amazing, I have been learning swedish for a few months and I have been following you for a while and loving your swedish videos, though there aren’t many! This is gonna help me so much.
I love your new video series and can't wait to see/hear more of them. I love the Swedish language, but know hardly any of it yet. Even if I don't look at the English subtitles, it's still nice to just hear you talk! ☺️
Hello Katrin, I'm French and I'm learning Swedish for 2 years now and this type of videos is very useful for me! This is a great idea, thank you very much!
I absolutely love it!!! I also tried to watch Swedish youtubers to practice Swedish but it was waaay to fast for me to understand and I only got frustrated. But this video was not only helpful to practice the language but also motivating because this way I realise that I understand most of it. THANK YOU VERY MUCH 💛
I'm loving this series already, thanks for sharing Katrin! although I'm currently learning German, I also wanted to start with Swedish and this make the decision a lot easier!
I've been trying to learn Swedish on and off for years through duolingo but never really clicked. I really wanted to immerse myself in listening to the language but as you say most tv shows/ videos speak too fast, these are just perfect!!!! Please keep making more ❤
YES! This is an amazing idea! I think that anyone who is at least somehow interested in languages will appreciate these videos, Love you, keep doing what you're doing :)
Thankyou! I have started university in September here in Belgium. I am studying English and Swedish Linguistics-Literature so watching these video's in my freetime will hopefully help me even more, since that's the way we have all learned English in a more active way as well. I hope these new series continues, I cannot wait to see all of your sequels to this! Hugs! ps: CRITERIA: with Swedish subtitles I can understand most of what you're saying. Keep up the good work!
This is the best thing ever! Thank you so much for this series. I started to study Swedish on my own 2 weeks ago and I'm so happy realizing I already understand some words. I'm excited for your next video!
Great to have Swedish subtitles too. I found that clear pronunciation makes the biggest difference to understanding regardless of speed. I would rely on subtitles until I found Therese Lindgren's channel who I found easy to understand even without subtitles and that in turn made it a little easier for me to understand the "mumbling" Swedes, though I still have to stop and look up words very frequently. I had a short Swedish course at a Scottish uni and as a native German speaker it came a lot easier to me than to many of my peers who only knew English :L I think the more related languages you know, the easier it gets to learn another one. Looking forward to more videos!
I studied Swedish in the 60s, yes way back then. I had given up on revitalizing it but I feel hopeful in in resurrecting it with your help Katrin. Thank you so much!
Yes! This series is going to be so helpful for me as I continue to work on my Swedish. I’m decent with conversational Swedish but don’t always recognize words when they are spoken quickly in Swedish vlogs and stuff. Tack!
This is super helpful! I think talking about topics that usequite a bit of everyday words, rather than more international or niche topics would be most useful. And the speed is perfect!
A few years ago i lived in Sweden for a year so i understand quite a bit of swedish but this really helps me to understand even more! Tack så mycket!❤❤❤
This makes my year worthwhile already. I want to learn Swedish this year and videos of someone speaking slowly like this is invaluable. :) As for ideas of topics? Sweden as a whole; history, the landscape, what modern Sweden is like, etc. It would be neat if at the end of each video there was the a slang word or term, or a complicated word, or more compound words that sound funny when split up. Or even something like, animal noises and/or names. I'm just happy to be along for the ride though with whatever you choose to talk about and teach us. :)
OMG. Thank you! I thought of learning swedish for about 8 months but never actually learned more than saying hello and it's not even that hard!! I'm so ready to start learning, thank you Kat! ❤️
I'm currently learning Norwegian, but thanks to you speaking slow in this video, I understand the most part of what you're saying, even without subtitles. I think these videos will be very useful and also fun to watch.
This came just in right time! My Swedish studies in university are starting and well I can’t really remember how to say or write anything. At least I understood the video. So thanks for this and can’t wait to see more!
Your videos are great!! Your speaking slowly and clearly makes it so much more viable to learn the language and feel like one is making progress at understanding. I do hope you will continue to produce more videos of this type. You are doing a wonderful job!! Please continue :) As for content, it was great to have you converse with Sonny. Listening to more conversations with others about, their interests, activities, longings, travels, partners, ideal dates, career goals, movies, really anything and everything. Just listening to the words and the pronunciation is so very helpful to become familiar with the language. Thanks for all your efforts to day and I look forward to more videos from you :)
I am new to Swedish... I've tried to learn it for a few months and I could understand it when you talked at your normal speed. I am so proud of myself!
I am so happy that you're starting this series, Katrin! My mom is learning Swedish and I just sent this to her. And this way I can hopefully pick up some swedish too while watching your videos. Awesome!! xxx
Thank you SO MUCH! I've been studying Swedish for 4 months already and this is just great! I'm so happy I could understand most of what you were saying and i'm really excited about the series!!!
Love this! You are speaking clear enough to understand for a beginner learning Swedish. With RUclips having the playback speed function, people can adjust the speed of the video to slow it down even more if they need to! I am looking forward to more videos from this new series!
I’m not currently learning Swedish so this video isn’t really for me but the fact that you made it to help people learning the language is awesome and I love it and you! ❤️
Tack så mycket! I resolved in 2018 to learn Swedish after stumbling across you and another Swedish RUclipsr. I'm now subscribed and enjoying your videos. It would be cool if you did general chatter videos like "things on my to do list", "my vacation plans", "my favorite foods", "Christmas traditions in Sweden" etc.
this is great!!!! it`s slow enought to understand what you are saying and is so cool that you thought making this kind of videos for the ones who are trying to learn swedish. I am a begginer and this was super helpful. I don`t have any suggestions on what you could talk about... maybe a tattoo video ... or maybe something about Menace :) ... all this talking like now :) Tusen tack !
This is amazing, I'm learning Norwegian and the fact that I can kinda understand what you're saying in Swedish is soooo rewarding. This is a great idea, RUclips can help sooo much when it comes to learning languages, if used the right way. Tusen takk/Tack så mycket Katrin!
I am SO, SO excited for this series! This is exactly the kind of thing I dreamed of finding when I started following different Swedish RUclipsrs! Tack så mycket, Katrin!
The pace is perfect don't change it! I love the idea and thank you SO MUCH for doing this!! I have been learning Swedish on my own for 5 years now and I really needed this. Tack så mycket Kat!
Elica Georgieva Hej! I mainly practise on the Duolingo app or website which is amazing! But there is also a very good book that's called Complete Swedish and covers everything if you are willing to really engage! Hope this helps ☺️
Videos like this are very helpful!! I am an Italian boy, who started learning Swedish 3 months ago with Duolingo. I really want to improve it because it is a very beautiful language. I understand some words and sentences you said with subtitles, but I hope to understand the whole video soon. Tack så mycket!!
Wow, what a great idea, thank you so much for this! I didn't even need to turn on the CC to understand all you said! To speak fluent Swedish is one of my goals for this year, so the timing is perfect! I'll even try to make my comments in Swedish next time! Tack så mycket!
I have been practicing my Swedish using Duo Lingo but really need to hear it spoken more often (and slowly!). This is so helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! My Swedish learning has been stagnant for months because I needed to start practicing listening comprehension but I couldn't find anything basic enough to start with and I ended up giving up. Please take this forward! It is super helpful! The subtitles in both English and Svenska are super nice because I can listen once with EN sub and learn some words like subtitles = undertexter, and then watch again with SV sub and see how some words are spelled. It's perfect!
Can I just say how happy realising that I actually understand every word you're saying in this video is making me! I'm from Finland and I've been studying Swedish at school for about 5 years now and in a couple of months I'm taking my final exam on. Katrin Berndt Haha thank you so much! Hearing that actually makes me super happy :D

This is such a great idea! It's super helpful for second language learners to have a slow paced practice source, thanks Kat 💕
It would be cool if you could talk about Swedish culture and traditions and also maybe what it's like to live in Sweden (prices, food ect...)
completely agree

Yes! It's the same for me, I can understand 99% of it without the subtitles but normal swedish videos are just way too fast for me. Yay!
I love this idea! I think you spoke really well and I'm super excited for the rest of the series!
Tack SÅ mycket! I just finished up the Swedish course in Duolingo after doing it every day for a full year, so this timing couldn't be better. I'm learning by heart all of these slow Swedish videos and taking notes from the subtiles, you can't imagine how useful they are! Tack så mycket for doing this!
I'm glad you like them! There are many more on my Swedish channel, ruclips.net/user/katrinberndtswe ^^
Please keep making more ❤
I like the idea, really hopping to improve my Swedish with this new series! Tack så mycket!
Oh my god. This is exactly wat I've been looking for, it's perfect!
Tack!
I’ve been learning Swedish with Duolingo and I find your videos to be a really helpful supplement. Tack så mycket!
This is super helpful! I think talking about topics that usequite a bit of everyday words, rather than more international or niche topics would be most useful. And the speed is perfect!
Thank you for these videos! I am from Australia and i am moving to Stockholm in two weeks. I like watching the svenska videos
As for ideas of topics?
Please continue :)
As for content, it was great to have you converse with Sonny.
This is an awesome idea! I just began learning Swedish so it will be awesome to watch these videos as I learn more! Thank you!
This is brilliant! I wish you would've done this a couple months ago when I had to practice for my swedish exam haha.
this is great!!!! it`s slow enought to understand what you are saying and is so cool that you thought making this kind of videos for the ones who are trying to learn swedish. I am a begginer and this was super helpful. I don`t have any suggestions on what you could talk about... maybe a tattoo video ... or maybe something about Menace :) ... all this talking like now :) Tusen tack !
I'm picking up Swedish as one of my goals for the New Year, so this video is exactly the sort of thing that I am looking for.
YAAAASSSSSS 🙌🏻 been trying to learn since I met my husband 6 years ago. The slow speech is really useful!
I am SO, SO excited for this series! This is exactly the kind of thing I dreamed of finding when I started following different Swedish RUclipsrs!
Tack så mycket, Katrin!
Tack!! I am also learning swedish :) I spent almost a year living in Göteborg and I loved my swedish class, so now in Mexico I am learning it.
The pace is perfect don't change it! I love the idea and thank you SO MUCH for doing this!! I have been learning Swedish on my own for 5 years now and I really needed this. Tack så mycket Kat!
Evangelia Pal hi! Can you recommend me a site or a book, where I can learn swedish on my own ?
Elica Georgieva Hej! I mainly practise on the Duolingo app or website which is amazing! But there is also a very good book that's called Complete Swedish and covers everything if you are willing to really engage! Hope this helps ☺️
Evangelia Pal thank you 😄
So helpful! I am only just starting my journey with learning Swedish. I am moving to Stockholm in July so this series is perfect for me xx
I really need this! Please post more videos! Thanks
This is exactly what I needed! I’ve been looking for sources for practicing my Swedish listening skills and this is perfect!
I’m just starting to learn Swedish and appreciate the slow pace as English is my first language. Thank you for these videos!
Can I just say that this video made me want to learn Swedish cause it sounds AMAZING omg!!
