Well the best of dutch cuisine to me is definately a big pile of pancakes!! They're very thin and quite big in comparison to the american pancakes, but soooooo good.
And there are enough variaties (but all classics) for a video of there own.
      Try at least:
      Pannenkoek met poedersuiker
      Pannenkoek met (karamel)stroop
      Pannenkoek met appel en rozijnen
      Pannenkoek met kaas
And some might say een spekpannenkoek, but by the looks of this video you could really do with a lot less meat 😅

One thing I haven't seen being suggested is the stroopwafel-crumb variety. If you can find a confectionary market stall that makes the stroopwafels they sell themselves, they generally also offer portions of the stroopwafel cuttings with hot syrup dripped on top. It is absolutely diabetes in a bag, but hot-diggety is it lekker.

Advice about the fries, we call them patat or frietjes, depanding on the region you are in. There are multiple forms of fries. You got the french fries, which are small fries, the normale patat which you get at most patatzaken (PS: Go to Bram Ladage and order a patatje oorlog, it's basically the best fries you can get). And then there is the "Vlaamse friet" which are the huge frietjes. Also sometimes it can be good to buy some potatoes, slice them in fries sizez and then heat up by airfryer or a fryer, it's so good. Probally already known but just wanted to share.

during winter they werent able to catch enough so they cut(frenched) potatos into fish shapes or just fries and fried them frenched fries french fries.
happen to speak french aswel...introduce this to a amerikan and u get what we now have.....even in the netherlands and belgium we have packaging saying franse (french) friet(fries)
oooooof as a fry fanatic. them spuds looked amazing il be sure to go there soon.
also yes dutch fries are thicker then the standart french fries for sure...but not that much if u want to try thicker ones try flamish fries (vlaamse friet) those are usually instead of 8x8 mm or 10x10mm
arround 10x20 and often are served with some spices and real fatty mayo, i prefer dutch fries or belgium fries but flamish ones are nice aswel.

Yeah, Dutch food is indeed not high standard cuisine, Dutch food in general is mostly simple, healthy and nutricious food and i don't mean the snacks but the meals we eat. But there are of course a lot of international cuisines here in the Netherlands, so there is a lot to choose.
The Indonesian kitchen (and also the Surinamese kitchen) is adopted by the Dutch and therefor it is(considered) part of the Dutch cuisine, so we do have some 'Dutch' food that isn't bland and monotonous. 😀

The Walloon fries (the French speaking part of Belgium) are still the best or again the best. They peel the non frozen potatos, they tend to stick to right potatoes, the Bintje which is actually a Northern Dutch potato. They cut them a bit thicker than the Flemish, and they double fry them, in beef fat, blanc de boeuf.
The Flemish do a lot of frying in vegetable oil these days, and often use easier breeds of potato. The Dutch traditionally cut a lot more corners, they don't even double fry but by slicing them thinner they got away with it. The Dutch are easier to please anyway.

I was actually shocked the first time I had Belgian, expecially because it was from such shabby semi permanent shop in a deprived area, how was I to know they were the best. But most of the Dutch friends I was with really didn't like it. Especially the Belgian mayo, the queen of sauces there, put them off. They fries guy and I agreed they were barbarians.
I really have a soft spot for the 'dorpschinees'. The Chinese-Indonesian low budget restaurants/take away that have been in the smallest Dutch villages since the 50's. They all look kind of the same, had the same interiors, same pseudo Indonesian dishes adapted by Chinese to Dutch taste. The phenomenon is dying, many quit, many have changed their menu, they used to be everywhere, but in some small villages or neighbourhoods there is one like nothing has ever changed. Babi Pangang, Tjap Tjoy, Foe yong Hai, Sate, Rijsttafel, the classic ones. Authentic Indonesian or Chinese is on a different level, I know.
