I don’t know the Spanish language, but that Tex Mex music makes me feeling so happy...on the moments listening to that music I wished that there were friends around so we can talk about silly and ordinary things, drinking beer, whiskey, tequila, or whatever...being happy, together laughing and becoming drunk as drunk can be....
Ironically....and rather appropriately.....this music has its roots in German polka, from when German immigrants came to south Texas and northern Mexico and brought their diatonic button accordions and their music (much music itself which came from countries like Austria, Poland, Switzerland, etc). But not just Mexican and German combining, also southwest American cowboy influence in the guitars. So much mixing and merging and borrowing and influencing and immigrating from country to country! Edit: I realized I didn't make my point about "ironically and appropriately"! Well, just imagine Germans playing similar polka music while drinking alcohol and grilling meats, and you get the idea 😉
I made it to this video after watching a few birthday videos from Dwayne El Holandes and wondering who Flaco Jimenez was. ruclips.net/video/Ss-Nzsc9X3c/видео.html&ab_channel=DwayneElHoland%C3%A9s Love this style too. Was that Uncle Gus at 6:22?

Just discovered this guy. He was completely unknown to me. But what a great musician! As I love accordion music (Zydeco, Musette, Clifton Chenier etc...), Flaco Jiminez fits totally in the music I love. Y que viva Mexico!!
What a great video. Funny song with Chencha and undocumented-guy-in-love characters. You can see how Flaco rejoices singing these humorous songs. The part showing how to press a vinyl LP is nice, too. As always, his playing just adds that spice to the music.
There is nothing more American than the mixture of German and Mexican heritage that showed its form in the accordion music of Flaco, that is the integration of cultures to find common ground. I only wish all my fellow countrymen felt the same.
They have really old equipment! i'm surprised it worked then, but no one would ever think of doing all this to manufacture a record. It's amazing to see all the work that went into these records, which are now a piece of junk to many; I still have my 45s and 33.3s.
Muy buena cancion este es un gran documental que se titula: chulas fronteras, con la alondra de la frontera, don santiago jimenez, flaco jimenez, los pinguinos del norte, alegres de teran y variado reparto de artistas
i remember going to the these fiestas with my parents. flaco and other conjunto bands who play and people would dance and drink like there aint no tomorrow.
I don't know what I liked more; the music or the clips of this little home-brew recording/mastering/vinyl-cutting studio. Really old school and down to earth, but they had an honest fairchild compressor.
Migrated illegally as a 3 yr old child in ‘76, but, but, these tunes were constantly played at my mothers tortilla company weekend parties.. damn flaco Jimenez is a kingm
