The Shadow was one of my favorite films from the 90's. There was something very inspiring about a man who had done truly awful things and knew he could never make up for his past deeds. Despite this he kept on trying. The song is operatic, dramatic and wonderful. Wonderful vocals by Taylor Dayne.

The og Shadow from the pulps is much better. He's an incorruptible dispenser of justice because it's needed. It's not about compensation. The emo pathos mixed with extremelly bad jokes he has in the movie is entirely antithetical to what the Shadow's supposed to be.

I like this movie in a "good bad movie" way. I will say that this movie is a little below Tim Burton's 89 Batman. First off, there is slightly more star power for the time. Jack Nicholson, Jack Palance, Micheal Keaton, Pat Hingle and Kim Basinger. The Shadow has some notable stars as well but the material the actors were given was not as good as in Burton's flick. Overall... I would argue that Batman is a step up but the Shadow is somewhat close behind. The trend around that time was oddly enough a proto-Marvel type Superhero movie... Dick Tracy, Phantom etc. So I cant fault them for making it, just wish it was a bit more Well acted as Alec baldwin seems like hes got the "cool kid in the highschool play" mentality. just a bit. like hes a bit too cool for the role but it was serviceable. I will also say kudos to The Shadow for having two amazing actors in it... Ian Macellan and Tim Curry

    Lyrics-
I've been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I've done all the old ones
Till they've all been done in
    Now I'm just looking
And I'm gone with the wind
Endlessly searching for an original sin
    You can dance forever
You've got a fire in your feet
But will it ever be enough
You know that it'll never be enough
You can fly and never land
    And never need to sleep
But will it ever be enough
You know that it'll never be enough
It's not enough to make the nighmares go away
It's not enough to make the tears run dry
And who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men today
    It's a city of shadow
    It's a city of light
    It's a city of secrets
    It's a city of pride
    It'll all be over now
All I wanted was a piece of the night
I never got an equal share
When the stars are out of sight
    And the moon is down
The natives are so restless tonight
All I needed was a spot in the light
It never had to get so dark
When the stars are out of sight
    And the moon is down
The natives are so restless tonight
I've been looking for the ultimate crime
    Infinite victims, infinitesimal time
And I'm so, so very guilty for no reason no rhyme
So now I'm just looking and I'm killing some time
Endlessly searching for the ultimate crime
You can lose yourself in pleasure
    Till your body's goin numb
But will it ever be enough
You know that it'll never be enough
It's not enough to make the nightmares go away
It's not enough to make the tears run dry
And who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men today

@@MrNigelBriggs Hi Nigel. The fact that the arrangement is nearly identical is irrelevant to me. The commanding charisma of Dayne's vocal is ideal for such an over-the-top song. Aside from her prodigious power and technical skill, she totally sells it with just the right amount of self-aware drama. It's a master class in delivery, and she handles the entire song herself, whereas the Pandora's Box version consists of different vocalists handing off the various sections. They're capable vocalists, for sure, but Dayne's interpretation of the material remains without peer. There's a reason so many people consider her Tina Turner's heir apparent. Cheers! Christopher

A great cover of the Jim Steinman (singer & song writer) track "Original Sin", that was on the Pandora's Box (all female band) debut album. Such a strong operatic song that Taylor has pulled off excellently with her superb voice. When I had first heard Anastacia' first single, it just opened the floodgates of memories of Taylor' first singles, with that similar vocal style of Dayne' 1980s-90s pop career. I have loved Taylor Dayne' deep soulful vocal ever since I first heard her debut tracks, that blew me away as her unique vox hit the airways from the radio. Now in 2017 I can still listen to her albums and the tracks that made her a star icon to those that followed in her limelight.

actually it sounds like they reused the actual Pandoras Box backing track, reworked some minor details and just laid new lead vocals, with actualy exact same phrasing, almost copying the original singer Gina Taylor. Makes you wonder why they didnt use Gina and her original vocals. She sang it even better and laid the original phrasing.

    • @TATICMOOR

@@sinajakelic Yes it does sound like they've done that to this, so I agree with you on that. Maybe not released with Gina due to copyright issues. Though you know Jim Steinman, he is always reusing songs in whole or part with different singers.

I guess some of the critics were going overboard in 1994, I had heard that it barely made back it's 40 Million Dollar Budget and it was hyped to be the next Batman. I thought it was very well done and it had gained quite the Cult Status over the years. Will have to check out the Crime International, I can highly recommend the 1940 version with Victor Jory... Too bad it isn't on DVD yet, I have the 2 VHS Tape edition from 1998. Cost me $25 bucks but it was worth it.
