The ripe jackfruit that you harvested makes me drool, especially when you cut one open & started eating some. When I was growing up in my country of origin, we also boil the seeds till tender. It’s like steamed potatoes, but a lot sweeter . We cook green jackfruit after slicing it bite sizes with coconut milk, garlic & ginger, also with fish sauce or fermented shrimp paste . You are a high class merchant and clients need to respect you and your produce. Fruit displayed on flat round sieve basket trays would be more appealing than on used large rice bags. Also, you could sell the trays while selling produce. Customers and passersby would be interested watching you weave one of your baskets! Sell them for a high price, they are very well made, even as a wall decoration! Great for washing and draining produce. So lightweight and versatile. At least $20 for each large one. THI TAM: Noticed you don’t collect green tops only of all the weeds you cut down. Why not Collect them in a big pile, alternating with dried leaves and some soil, this way you will make a valuable COMPOST PILE, that will engender many earthworms, and black fertile loam to add to your garden around each plant? Compost conserves moisture in sandy soil, which is what you have under all the growth. All the green tops contain vital nutrients, and you should compost them, along with all your kitchen “waste” (peels, skins, and over ripe produce). You must turn over your pile to get oxygen to underneath bacteria so they will multiply and reduce all the green down to what we call “black gold” since there is so much valuable nutrition for the sandy soil when you add it, your vegetables will grow much bigger, you won’t believe it. I grew a cherry tomato plant in a hole filled with mostly compost. It grew 3 meters tall, and only stopped because it snowed in November. The plant looked like a giant white tent, but the green tomatoes under the branches continued to ripen, from soil warmth, thru December! That is unheard of in Ohio, when frosts usually kill our garden plants in early November, after Indian Summer in late October. Our forests have nothing of food except for the nuts that some produce, like black walnuts, that stain your hands when you peel off the outer hulls. But roasted they taste pretty good. Most nut trees are in the south, like Texas pecan trees. Peanuts are a legume that grows in the ground, but they are used roasted and salted as a snack food, or ground up into peanut butter, to spread on bread for a sandwich. Most children take this and an apple to school for their lunch. Many get carton of free milk to drink.
We call our harder squash WINTER SQUASH, even though harvested in late summer. We call them Butternut squash and acorn squash. We cut in chunks, drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper, and roast them in an oven for 45 minutes, till brown on edges. Can add cut onions to squash for extra flavor. Or we cut acorn squash in half, remove seeds, fill with brown sugar and some ghee or butter, and bake for an hour in pan with a little water, so bottom won’t burn. SUMMER squash are zucchini and yellow squash, and must be cooked within a week because they do not store long term like the hard winter squash. We use the seeds (especially pumpkin seeds) for snacking. First clean the seeds with lots of water, then soak in very salty water for 2 days. Drain water of and roast in oven until dry and crunchy. Keep them in a jar with tight lid to stay fresh and crunchy for snacking, they have protein and minerals. Or divide into small plastic bags, to take with you on your foraging trips into the forest. Can eat straight from plastic bag, without touching them as you may have bacteria on your hands from digging.
