Had it not been for the great Comedic dynamic between Carlton, Will and Uncle Phil the show would not have made it 3 more seasons after the painful change. *_It would've lasted another 5 Seasons with the Original Aunt Viv._*

What I love most about the dance clip is you can hear/sense the audience confusion when she starts killing the dance because of her reactions when the instructor was going thru the routine

If this was real life, I'd much rather prefer the first Vivian as my aunt or mother than the second Vivian. The first one was career oriented, ambitious, yet still loving and nurturing when need be. A real role model for girls and women. The second one was too irresponsible at times, letting her kids get away with too much and just depended on her husband most of the time. The first Aunt Vivian was protective of her kids yet let them reach for the stars while the second one let them get away with almost anything. Not good at all. Sends the wrong message to the public. Anyone care to comment or agree?
All of the negative stuff Phil says involving Aunt Viv, the second one would always get upset and walk away whilst the first would make a sassy remark. Yeah Janet Hubert is better in every way

Most of the blame has to be put upon the writers for how they changed the character of Aunt Viv when the cast change happened. They took away all the characters strong aspects, strong story lines and put her more in the background.
That was because it was a new actress and they knew that the audience wasn't gonna be as invested. Later episodes focused on Will and Phil's relationship because of that.
Loved Janet Hubert in PPOBA. She brought so much to the show: class, elegance, intellect, grace, breathtaking beauty and a sense of humor (allowing herself to be vulnerable)...stopped watching the show after she left. Regret no one stepped in to support her.

I know that every actor embodies and interprets their role differently but the second Vivian had nothing in common with the first. The first one was a tough power woman, former dancer and college professor. You couldn't mess with her at all. The second one was completely different in character, she seemed like a staid housewife and not a former dancer and college professor. The scene with Vivien in Compton would be unthinkable with the second Vivian.
I loved original Viv. She was a formed character in her own right whereas new Viv was merely Phils wife. The new mellow Viv allowed the spotlight on Phil and for him to be the main parental role to Will. Original Viv was definitely a more skilled actress. I think Will wouldn't have had as many adventures with original Viv cracking down on him!
Janet brought a lot of oomph to the character. She played a leading role where as the 2nd Viv was more of a filler. Will, Carlton, Hilary, Uncle Phil, Geoffrey and Aunt Viv (Janet's version) were all leading roles with defined poignant characters to the point where each of them could be mimicked. Girls could talk like Hilary, Carlton has a dance, etc. But the 2nd Aunt Viv was given a filler supporting, role.
I’m glad she and Will reconciled. She was the perfect Aunt Viv.
Unlike the second Aunt Viv, she brings NO connection of the character, no offense, but she weren't suppose to be inside the show.
