Had the opportunity to meet Will and talk to him outside the Las Vegas Paddock swipe gates last December and he is the real deal and truly does love to talk about F1 even when the cameras are not rolling and even if you are not covering him for a podcast. Terrific guy and a true fan and student of the sport.
So many people probably know who Will is because of DTS but he’s on DTS because he got the job with f1 broadcasting which he accomplished all with his own passion and hard work, and just not being to stop talking about his passion! That’s incredible!
Awesome pod-- if you can get Will back on, it would be super interesting to see his opinion based on what's happened since this interview. His thoughts on his earlier in the year opinions lol
This is by far one of the best interviews I've ever seen. I enjoyed every moment of it! I came into F1 in 2018 and wasn't aware of DTS until maybe 2020, 2021? I can't recall. Anyway, I've known of Will's love of F1 and racing (and his continuous support of IndyCar, thank you Will!) for a while and am always sad to see Will derided as "just another Netflix personality who doesn't know anything about the sport" (common theme on Reddit, etc.). I have always loved watching Will and the F1 crew in the pre/post race shows, and every time we manage to catch him in the box for active commentary is a treat. I love his genuine enthusiasm and his willingness to (literally) get messy just to enjoy what he loves. Thank you guys for such a great pod! And I had no idea he'd ever raced the guys, let alone beat the Goat! ;)
He is single handily responsible for sending me deep into the rabbit hole of motor sport we are the same age I started with DTS and I went all the way back to the 60's as much as I could find I watched it all some twice because of Will Buxton your a legend
Big British bias from me being British. We all have the first race we watched. I started watching in 94 the finale of the Australian GP. At least it's the first race i remember at least. I fell off somewhere in the mid 2010s. 2020 brought me back, COVID and binging 2 seasons of DTS. Love the pod, love the sport. Love you Vankahhhss!
I love F1! Great interview and I am a fan of your guest. He does a great job. The current lineup they have is just about perfect. I like him and the people he works with.
I loved this interview! It amazes me how everyone praised Senna for the fear he installed in the other drivers and the criticism Max gets when he is basically the same. I feel like all the drivers idolize Senna, but Max reminds me of Senna the most. Another interesting point came to me when discussing how well Carlos is doing and how Lewis is struggling because the car doesn't suit him, is that that's why some consider Alonso to be one of the greatest drivers , because there is no such situation for him. He gets the most out of any car. He is one of the most adaptable drivers I have ever seen. It's a shame he made some bad choices in his career.
I totally don’t understand the love and talk of Alonso being one of the greats. He hasn’t won a race since 2013! How is this getting the best out of a car? He was unable to beat Lewis as a rookie, and Alonso had just won his second drivers title!
@@elainel8588 the thing is, he knocked Schumi off his throne in 2005 and 2006. That is why. He also has engineer level inputs about car performance and feedback. Alonso in the blue and yellow Renault R25 was akin to a fighter pilot who had survived every single fight he had ever been in. Hope this helps some!
I have been a Formula 1 fan since I was probably 5 years old. It's been 30 years that I have been watching Formula 1. And I love the fact that there are new fans coming in. I think the people who gave keep formula one are insecure and maybe this might have been the only Thing that made them different from others.
Love this. Ive been a fan of Will since long before DTS and although we play into the memes. He is one of the best in the game and the energy and passion he has for the sport really is infectious
Thanx Guys You just impressed a 67yo fan with this interview of Will You showed him as Will & That is fucking amazing!!! I like your style...less bullshit & more reality bites! lol
Sooo amazing... Such good insights.. What an interview, and I am one of those fans from the 90s. U guys are funny and contagious. Welcome welcome welcome 🥳
❤ you Will! Btw this American has been around since Senna & little Hamilton 😝😎💜 Every sport & business needs to keep their arms open wide to newbies! They are the life blood that feeds future success
The meeting will is talking about.. I swear lewis and nico have both talked about before... toto said if theres another accident its coming out of both their pockets he doesnt care whos fault it is or what.. they didnr hit eachother after that lmao
Now I understand the Fernando Alonzo meme about the GP2 engine. 😂 He was referring as if their f1 engine is like of an f2 back when it was called gp2. New fan. Thank you Will! 😂
Grandstand was the greatest show. That’s how I know f1, my Grandfather watched it religiously and I watched it from 3 years old in ‘78. Senna ‘84 Monaco made me fall in love and ‘88 move to Mclaren set my allegiance that I live with today. Will is old skool and my kind of bloke. Thanks Will for being authentic and passionate. It doesn’t go unnoticed by us who appreciate it. 👀🧐🤔💯😜
Speaking as an F1 fan of 45 or more years, I embrace all new fans or those seeking to know anything more of the sport. I am a bit flabbergasted about the enmity shown by some F1 fans regarding new fans, and frankly have the attitude that such people are to be completely ignored. Response to that type of behaviour only rewards it.
Thank you Will so fed up of seeing people comment on other peoples comments .. oh this must be a DTS fan .. Like people are only fans of the series and not the actual sport. Don't get me started on when it's a female then apparently we are only fans cause we think one of the drivers is hot and not the sport itself .. Good forbid that we are F1 Fans. The sport is gaining new fans and that is awesome .. they are learning and they want to learn which a great thing.
They need to watch and learn for a few years before making ridiculous comments based on zero substance. Zero knowledge, zero facts, zero wisdom and zero understanding of f1 and zero fundamentals of life. 👀🧐🤔💯
Bearman and Antonelli are no guarantees, nobody has any idea how they perform when not only every session is criticized but every second and turn on the track, so many more failed than succeeded, Will is a great guy and very positive but it's a sport and we need to judge them as sports people and we will see how they perform when they get butchered on social media when they are 0.300 slower in any session.
My advice to the interviewer with the green cap is: ‘leave out the words: LIKE and YOU KNOW’ as much as possible. Like it gets you know like annoying you know?
It's not that I hate new fans, they are welcome. It's that it's based sometimes solely on DTS. And they really do NOT understand the sport. And DTS is just not the best thing to base your knowledge about F1 on. Sorry Will, but DTS is just a little fake and over dramatized. F1 is already dtama enough so I never got that. Yeah I agree with everything and f1 would be nothing without the old fans who have watched for decades and still watch and learn, admire and give credit where it’s due. That’s part of our fundamentals and the young generations of today don’t have them. It’s a problem for society and it’s therefore in f1. We’re old enough and wise enough to know that and not worry about the ignorance and stupidity of others who don’t know any better. They think they know everything but they know the fundamentals so they’re doomed when they lose us, and our generations, of born before 1990 for arguments sake. I just had to go through this with my 16 year old son who thought that 1 of his 1440 minutes of his day, that’s it’s not necessary for him to give me that minute if we are to have a relationship. I don’t know when Society lost the saying ‘The simple things in life are the best, and the best things in life are for free’ Thank goodness my 11 year old daughter totally understands.
great vid; great interview; Will is amazing. Just one item I wished you had addressed . . . . Indy Car and Nascar use the same equipment; especially Indy Car. Then it leaves it up to Driver skill, pit stops and minor incidentals. Indy's equal to Max is Alex Palou, but he doesn't win every race; same with Nascars's Kyle Larson. Max wins BECAUSE OF THE CAR. put Lando, Lewis, Carlos in Max's Red Bull and they will win instead. Just sorry after 1.5 hours of a great interview none of you addresses this specifically; having THE SAME CAR for every team in F1.
Drive to Survive 2021 was extremely Interesting but the Uk dominated F1 media and their (former) colony's all want to avoid the Mercedes engineer caught on DtS camera saying they needed to teach Max a lesson. Teaching a lesson in motorsport, a lesson with 200mph, a lesson that gets drivers killed, a lesson UK dominated F1 media is avoiding because the know it's the biggest scandal in recent F1 history. That the English spoken bubble want to avoid it is no surprise.
Yeah you can’t expect to have a valid opinion on f1 if you’ve only watched it for 2-5years. It’s the ones like me 40 years plus that understand the sport and respect and appreciate everything about it. And don’t consider watching greatness unfold, the Max domination was at times Perfection, that you can only admire and be in awe of, if you know anything about f1. Formula One is something you appreciate more the more you watch and learn, the better it becomes. 👀💯😜
Indeed Will, everyone has his first race. But here we are about 4y.o when you get your first touch with f1, now the new fans are 30 years old. Thats what annoys me, i've been watching f1 longer then that ..
I’ve been watching since 1978 season I was 3 after that season, ‘84 loved it learned and understood it and Senna was the man, after Monaco in that torrential rain in a Toleman,, starting in 13th. Senna calved through drivers and World Champions like Rosberg, Mansell, Lauda, Arenoux, Albereto, Piquet, to name a few. Prost was on Pole in his Mclaren TAG Porsche. Senna was in 2nd in no time. 13th to 2nd, in front Prost had 12 seconds advantage which lasted 3 laps and Prost who was gesticulating past the pits for the race to be stopped. With the Red Flags waving for the raced to be stopped Prost pulls up shy of the Start/Finish line and Senna took the flags first. Prost technically hadn’t completed the race distance before the race was stopped. But his country man Jean Marie Balastre, CEO of the FIAsco took the race results from the lap prior to the race being Red Flagged. Prost got given the win, Sennas miraculous drive ignored. Controversial and that made me always want to know everything about f1. F1 is the most diverse sport, technologically most advanced, with the smartest brains available, the best pilots on the planet, and the most loyal, knowledgeable people who follow and support f1. And I can never get enough, learn too much, know enough or attend as many races as I would like but 49 in 24 Countries, not USA yet, it’s last, COTA or Miami, forget Vegas. Not for me. My son’s knowledge is insane given he’s 16 but at 2 he was subjected too and watched, starring at the tv, and loves his f1 too. Big December, going Qatar and Abu Dhabi wearing Papaya hoping the WDC is alive till then. When you love sport like I do it’s painful to read, hear or see disrespect towards the Drivers and the Teams. F1 is elite and should be respected as all the participants that make it happen are also incredible. Except Mo Bin Salem and the FIAsco which generally does the right thing for the sport, rules and regulations, safety good, but who’s ethics are questionable. That’s always been the case.
Carlos is overrated again until he makes his mistakes again, it's all very opportunistic. Carlos made mistake twice in the lead chased by Max, Silverstone '22 and Monza '23, that the biggest tell you can get in this sport, key moments. Carlos after winning Australia was eager to say he forced Max into a mistake after the race, he hoped it was 2-1 but it's still 2-0 because Max had a tech issue. Drivers and teambosses know what this sport is about, overshooting corner when chased when the gap gets smaller and smaller is the biggest tell you can get in this sport, Carlos is no WDC material. Every sim racer has this problem, overshooting corners when chased is when you know you drive against people that are faster and better. F1 drivers have all been the hunters forcing rivals into mistake and when they arrive in F1 they become the hunted
Will is a great guy but he has this British media people problem that can't see Lewis as a racing driver and don't judge him as racing driver or real person, they all abuse Lewis to make themselves look woke and inclusive and because of that they talk complete rubbish when Lewis is clearly under performing for 3 years, he doesn't dare to be critical at Lewis. But on F1TV app his channel International and the commentary is lot lot better than the SkyF1 coverage, less British biased
If a great carpenter has a tool that isn't working and ends up building a cabinet that isnt his usual standard does that mean he isn't a great carpenter who that he needs better tools. Lewis is a brilliant driver but imagine your style is late breaking but when you late break with a car that doesn't have a rear end that is stable and the car is non compliant how are you able to extract your best from that. I hate when people who clearly have zero wheel knowledge knock on a 7x WDC who ended up finishing 3rd I a championship (almost 2nd) in a wheelbarrow and say he is underperforming. Stop listening to bias media and actually watch the races and listen to programmes with engineers for yourself and try to understand what is actually happening.
@@brownbabyuk10 Excuses and excuses, experimental setups, beaten by teammate regularly, failed to get into Q3 regularly and the last 4 year crashed into Albon twice, Max twice, Piastri, Alonso, Checo and tok teammate George out after 300 meter when they had a chance, getting embarrassing. Most of your so called unbiased experts are biased Brits not able to deal with the reality that Lewis lost his racing mojo a long time ago
@@soundyg7441 Too bad for you that end results in F1 or any motorsport only tell a small part of the story. Maybe you missed it but Mclaren was bad beginning of the season and AM at the end. How many times did Lewis mis Q3 ? How many driver did he take out ? You can be impressed, I’m not. But you making it about skin colour is what Lewis his real legacy to this sport is, racist identity politics, you can’t see Lewis as racing driver, you see this extremely successful man as a black institutional victim, that’s horror and it’s poisoning this sport. Racist of low expectation abusing Lewis to make themselves look woke and inclusive are destroying this sport
I love that he totally didn't wanna get off the pod

THIS IS SOME EPIC SCHEIT WANKERS!!!
Captain Obvious himself 😂😂🙌🏿
@@brownbabyuk10
That's a lot of coping.
I guess the errors and crashes were due to the shite car as well the past few years.
@@soundyg7441 and piastri and he missed Q3 multiple times, did you watch ?
