Hey george, just want to let you know that because I followed your lessons my japanese teacher moved me from a year one class to an advanced placement class in highschool (usually it is 4th year+), so thank you!

Thanks George, I just bought 3 of your books. Looking forward to working thru them along with your videos. Just have a quick question(my apologies if you've covered this already): any Japanese shows one can watch online to help with listening skills? And would you recommend subtitles, no subtitles, and any advice on how to use those shows to help your Japanese? Much appreciated, Matt
Which lesson mentioned the “いこう“?I only saw it in lesson 13 mini conversations but could not find a lesson that talks about the お form to make informal “let’s “. Please let me know.
horaira khan For the regular verbs, just change them from いform to おform, then add う. For the いる,えるverbs, just drop the る,add よう. For irregular verbs, するbecome しよう; くる becomeこよう. Hope that helps!
I couldn’t find it in the book. Maybe he mentioned in his later videos.Lol. Yeah, very long. I feel the concepts are more complicated, too. A lot to remember.
wouldn't タバコを我慢する mean like to bear with cigarettes/smoking in the sense that you are forcing yourself too smoke? I feel like it would be missing something for it to mean put off smoking?
ず is far more commonly used than づ. The sounds are identical. The only times I've come across when づ is used are 1) when a kanji that starts with つ becomes attached to another word, e.g. 片付ける(かたづける), combination of word+辛い (つらい), and 2) when in the same kanji, the zu sound follows directly after a つ. e.g. 続く(つづく)
I watched all the video series and I cannot remember on what part did the conjugation of the word "さがす(to find) " becomes さがしたくない. Can anyone help me understand this part or remind me on what topic was it?
Mera Taguhi I know it has been 8 months, but I'll answer for those who are still wandering here and don't know. That's the want/don't want form, in the case of the verb さがす, you change the す to し and add たい to have さがしたい ( want to find), to negate it, you'll consider it as an "i adjective" by removing the い and adding くない, ending up with さがしたくない (don't want to find). I hope it helps someone =)
Two questions... Isn't "be able to play drums" ドラムが叩ける? Can 弾く also be used for brass instruments? And in German there is a single word for "blind person" (Blinder)... Is there an equivalent word for it, too or do you say 目が見えない人?
Nifuruc You're correct about the drum part. I believe 弾く is for piano and guitar and 吹く for wind instruments (including brass). And a blind person is 目の不自由な人.
Thank you! I prefer to use 「買うことができる」instead of 「かえる」for example, cause かえる can mean not only "can buy", but also "change", "return" and "frog" (both "change" and "can buy" are transitive, so it creates tons of ambiguity! Also it eliminates ambiguity of 食べられる, cause 食べることができる can have only one meaning. When George stated the theme I thought it would be primarily about 買うことができる form, so I thought it is incorrect to use it when I watched the video and hadn't heard about it.

the same thing happen in potential-verb "oyogu ga dekiru" and " oyogeru"

"-koto ga dekiru" / "-koto ga dekinai" is a more indirect way of saying these things. And we all know how the Japanese love to be indirect. It acts as a "softener" of sorts to the words. Though yes while the meaning is nominally the same, it does alter the nuances of the sentence.

The other hanashi is noun that means story. Hanashi wo shimasu is telling a story.
Suru means nearly do ,i think.
"hanashi wo suru" is "hanashi(noun) + wo(conjunction) + suru(verb)"
"hanashimasu" is only a verb.
